Creating/Using 'Friendly' Printer Names With PrintUI
boomam replied to OutToLunch's topic in How do you do....it?
Im confused what it is you want to to do here? Why not just keep your print server, or transfer the printers to another server, and rename everything in windows, papercut automatically picks the names up correctly. -
If they dont take your opinion as gospel on spec over the other staff members, i'd personally question my position at the place.

Any ideas?

Why not?

My pays pretty bad for what i do tbh. My title is a senior techy, but i do the job of a network manager. The school has a network manager, by title, but he's also head of ICT, and although i get on with the bloke really well, his knowledge of IT is questionable at times. Im trying to get them to bump me to network manager, which isnt a large increase, but an increase none the less. Unfortunatelly, i think even if they do bump me up, im still gonna have the head of ICT as my line manger regardless, which is annoying, as quite often i'll get under mined by him. .

Ranger remote control screen flickers on connect
boomam replied to cookie_monster's topic in Network and Classroom Management
If you have a known list it doesnt have to browse, just connect to the computers it already knows are there, which is FAR quicker. Does about 5-6 computers per second for me like that. -
When i goto view. Just my workstation does it. All the other tutor machines are fine. And it happens wether the other tutor machines are viewing the client as well, or if its just me. Thanks..

Cancel the browse, it should have remembered the clients from before, but they do appear offline. Just click on them to connect. Or setup a known list, that way it knows the clients already and only connects to them rarther than doing a network client scan. . -

Why not install the full Tutor client and use the NSS Deploy tool? That's how I've been doing it. From that tool I can deploy to computers I want from a list, remove it, send out a new license file and modify the client configuration when I like. It even can do it while students are logged on The deploy app is nice when i started using it. But trying to keep settings constant throughout the network without having to use the deploy app each time is a pain, along with a multitude of other problems i was having with it. So GPOs to to deploy the software, along with a licence/client32 file and it all goes so much more smoother for me. -

My issues wernt the same as yours, i was thinking that the cause could be the same though? Manual uninstall of both versions of NSS and then manual install of v9 + manual copy of client32.ini & the licence file. After that the problems i was having went away. -

How do you deploy NSS? We do it via GPO here and find on our older workstations that used to run 8.5x that it'd install 9.0 along side it, and it caused nothing but problems. Might be worth checking out? -
I highly recommend Papercut. Ive never had any problems with it here. .

disabling power button -effect of ranger
boomam replied to david12345's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Have you enabled the timeout in the BIOS's? That forces the computer under all circumstances to only shutdown after the button has been held in for 4 seconds. -
Hi. Ive got a bit of a wierd problem that i wouldnt mind sorting out: On my workstation, where i use NSS for an overall view of everything (compared to the tutor machines that only do the room they are in), if i goto view a client, the screen is blank until i share or control it. I was told a while back is was because of the video drivers i was using. So i tryed about 10 or so drivers for the then nVidia card i had in the system. No difference at all. I changed the card to an ATI one, as my previous workstation worked fine with its 9800, but again, even after multiple driver changes, the problem still persisted. Can anyone shed some light on how to fix this bug? Its not a major problem, but it is annoying. Thanks in advance all. .

Does the student toolbar pop up on connect? I found that that was a new 'feature' of NSS v9. -
Just remembered we've got that here! lol. Never used it though. .

Ive just enabled the one built into our VLE. The request get sent via email to whatever address i want, and it lists each request with exact VLE login information, so we can tie the request down to who's sent it. .

WiFi and laptops are a pain in the rear! We have 6 laptops here in one of our departments, all going through the single AP. And everynow and then they get connection problems. One laptop, even though its had its wireless card, aerial and whatnot replaced twice, and rebuilt several times, refuses to connect wirelessly!

Open the normal iTunes installer with WinRAR, and the MSI files are there, and work with deployments fine. .

Couldnt get it to download. :-p Just doesnt seem to show anything on the one camera ive supposidly got setup on it, just shows a broken applet in FF or IE.

Is SimsPerm safe to blast out over GPO before i use it? As none of our workstations will auto-update without me being logged on as administrator. Thanks.
