Yes, as at the time, using Loopbacks was the only way i could get drives and start menus to be the custom ones i wanted. I was thinking it might be that, but have been putting off fixing it because i didnt want to faff with potentially broken shortcuts on the workstations.

Interesting approach. Do you have a more in-depth how-to link anywhere? They say they dont have one, keep telling me to use MCPR.exe.

How do i fix it then? Copy the profile from a working profile, but change the start menu shortcuts to what i wanted them to be?

I only tested it on one machine though? Having said that though, 10mins later the network card in that machine dies and im still on the phone with Dell trying to get a replacement mobo.

Ive looked around, and it seems that SpecOps GPUpdate will do what i need to do quite well, problem is, that everytime i blast out a gpupdate command, it gives me firewall/offline errors?

How do i password protect it? There must be a way to script the removal of shortcuts...?

Hi. I want to get some helpdesk software implemented here to help with my every increasing work load. Im pretty sure i can get the backing of the SMT/HT with regards to staff usage. What i'd like is a system where users can submit the problem, see what they've submitted in the past, and see if it the ticket has been closed/open/etc; And also see a list of all tasks that i currently have. From my point of view, i'd like to be able to prioritise the tickets myself, delete, change, move, etc; the tickets, and also have a 'private' ticket area for me to put in tasks that the staff dont need to see. Which helpdesk software would suit my needs. Oh, and it preferably has to run on an IIS. . Thanks everyone..

It does. At least it did here. As Ashok said. But what i did was create groups in SurfControl that linked to groups in AD. So Pupils, Staff, etc; Then i just added the groups/users to the various rules as needed. Effectivly giving me the ability to limit users however i see fit.

Thats what ive used in the past. Very easy to use, and works. I recommend it. .

Yet another thread from me. . Does anyone know if its possible to configure the MSI installer/xml config file for NOD32 to not create shortcuts? Reason being, is that whilst ive got it configured to hide 90% of the 'dangerous' options in the program from the kids/staff, the icons on the start menu have still been made. Including the uninstall one. And it works. Either a way to configure it so no shortcuts are made at install, or a script that i can run that removes the shorcuts from machines would be most helpful. Is that a bat or vb script? Its annoying me now, because while its a useful app in some regards, its very annoying in others.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but didnt see the point in making a new one: It looks like an interesting app, but ive got a few questions before i take the plunge: - As it adds stuff to the AD MMC, are there any problems that could arise from that? - And i take it that it needs installing on each machine that i want those functions on? Hi. A while back when we got some new machines, i had to create a custom GPO on them so the drives and start menus appeared for them, as they had different setups than the rest of the machines on the network. A niggling problem ive had since then is that even when i log into them as administrator, everythings as if im a normal user, including access rights. Any idea why that happens? Thanks in advance all. .

This Nessus software seems good. Im not keen on the reports it generates though, as it takes ages to sift through all of it to see what the problems it said in the scan are.

I cant help you too much, but i would have thought, going on the name alone, that 'MachineObjectOU' is where in your AD the machine gets placed? So if you set it to 'domain\workstations\laptops' that it would go there in your AD? Thats only a wild guess though. . Gonna have to google this MS deployment kit, sounds interesting. .

Whats that fix called? Ive been told about that fix in the past, but could never find it?

Is your config file inside the msi as well?

Tryed. Same error. Im gonna try bunging it on its own share and pointing to that. Yes. The bginfo.exe, the config.bgi and the wallpaper.bmp are all in the same directory. Nope. .

Is there a way for me to create shortcuts on the desktop to change the proxy settings for me? Prehaps with a batch file? Just building the laptop now.
