Various systems can do this from third party systems the school can buy like impero (others available) to the existing filtering software your LEA runs such as smoothwall (others available). It's usually done via an app or extension installed on the device. Its not cheap usually so be prepared for multi thousand pound bill per year.

For 4k I'd be expecting 500+ not less than 100. Time to shop around methinks.

A good budget way of doing it is to stick to CPU encoding but buy refurbished workstation class with single or dual Xeon CPUs - the HP Z4 we have here are waaaaaay faster than the ed tech lenovos at things like premier and adobe media encoder jobs and not that much more expensive really. (they do take up more room as mid tower sized so bare that in mind). Or if sticking to ed tech, there's the Power plus spec lenovos which i believe come with a better spec i5 and basic nvidia GPU but for 700+ odd you can get a refurb dual xeon workstation which will spank it.

To be honest I a doing it because the more non working / depreciated stuff you can remove the less chance there is of people accidentally trying and failing to use it. Also - once you've gone cloud there is no going back ESS are not going to allow you to go back to having your own copy of the database and thus risking their "intellectual property" being viewed by someone else. (that's the entire reason for forcing everyone into the "cloud" is just so they can regain control of your database and hold your data to ransom later on down the line when you want to leave them.)

Yep clearing the cache is classchart's default response to anything. Clearing the cache is a last resort bodge to fix broken programming, not a first troubleshooting step.

Basically whatever software you have it's down to the 6th formers to sign in and sign out and down to the head and head of 6th to make them - this has to be instilled in them or your fire registers are still going to be wrong and so people/fire fighters could still die in a fire because of that.

There's plenty of weird stuff happening on classcharts recently - they seem to break things regularly. For example just the other week they totally broke attendance etc and none of the fields lines up so you couldn't work out who was in or out. Combine all those weird and wonderful bugs with the general daily poor performance particularly in the morning - whole system is a bit of a mess.

These online games always have a fair bit of firewalling requirement so you'll need a fair few ports opened and url's alowed. Our LA have refuse dot unblock these and so schools doing the esports qualification have had to get their own internet links in just for the esports.

Damage seems to be the bane of our lives here, whether accidental (mostly) or purposeful (occasionally). I've been into a few schools around the area and not one isn't having massive issues with Damage. Sadly, it's an SLT issue first and foremost (how it is dealt with and re consequences for pupil and parent) and a Classroom management issue second and second foremost (whether pupils are held to account in each lesson or allowed to rampage) - we're just passengers really if those two things are not dealt with I doubt any of us will get anywhere.

I think you need to gently explain to them above that you can't have nice computers, without buying nice computers. Do they want nice fast fit for purpose 21st century compatible computers yes or no? If yes, hand over some money here's the costs for refurbished, here's the costs for brand new. If no. Don't ever moan at me again when everyone else is moaning about how slow and crap they are. ICT direct or one of the many other refurb shops is a good way of going about it you generally get at least half price compared to new.

Could you consider touchscreen chromebooks? Infinitely better from a management point of view literally plug and play super secure no extra MDM needed, and not that expensive really.

It's tough but can be done especially if you can find ways not to waste money elsewhere. We did Year 7 year on Year got there in the end!

Is it a virtual server? If so take a snapshot and try and in place upgrade to 2019. If it works delete the snapshot in 7 days. if it doesnt work revert to the snapshot. I did mine from 2016 to 2019 but not 2022 as didn't have time to replace all the drivers etc. 2019 just worked.

It's a bit of a deep hole to go down but generally: 1. You'll get much faster editing on a multicore AMD CPU - e.g. a 32 thread Amd 5950x totally annihilates intel I5/I7 and most i9 at multithreaded stuff. 2. if the program you are using supports a specific GPU type to accelerate rendering then get one of those GPUs - you can't really go wrong with Nvidia but there is some stuff that runs better on AMD. Do some googling on the specific software there's usually a fair few performance videos on youtube. If your on a tight budget then just stick to a budget powerful CPU either single CPU AMD or Multi CPU older Xeon workstations.

Basically the short answer is - you should be sticking two whatever your CCTV policy states.

Yes add a hard disk and go through the process of setting a size etc. You'll then need to go into disk manager on the virtual machine and add it as a windows disk and give it a drive letter etc. (The one you are talking about under the hard drive section appears to be a half-added disk? Looks like it hasnt been completed as it doesn't have a vhdx file under it which is the actual data?)

Google reporting is pretty poor (unless you pay through the nose for the non free version). It should show last logged on user though - you checked in User and Browser settings and Device settings there's quite a few things to do with reporting and data collection on there that you may want to turn on.

I still think the best way is to have both, not one or the other. In my case ultra-reliable classroom pcs in each classroom ready to teach and learn just a 60 second logon needed. There's zero business case for fitting laptops in the scenario of "we want out teachers to enter any room in the school log on to a teacher pc and teach without fiddling with any plugs or having to call IT support" A mobile device for the teacher to use to as you say help with the myriad of tasks most of them need to attend to whilst not in their classrooms is a separate business case. Here it's 1:1 chromebooks and a staff ipad if required too.

it almost sounds like there is a setting in meraki that's set to "stop video from recording" and it takes 1 second for meraki to action it on the ipad? I'd go through your meraki settings to check there's no video blocking enabled.

I went on a measure fest a couple of years ago as I was fed up of being asked to save a few watts here and there when people had like 50 kettles in the wild. Most people don't realise when you crunch the numbers you'll find IT power usage is generally less than 5% of the schools total Elec usage - lights kettles heating canteen cookery etc etc all use WAAAAAAY more. So to summarise, big changes in IT suites/laptops/etc generally have a negligible effect on electricity bills.

Yeh I upgraded my own and my tech's PCs 6 months ago as were were using 10 year old HP Z200s that we got second hand as it was and they were getting real slow unreliable and doing weird stuff. Now have HP Z4 each with decent 10 core/32GB ram from ICT direct now specced with CD writers - and happy.
