  1. It's not better, but you can get away with the free version of Mosyle - running that for about 80 ipads and it works. Not perfect. But works. if I was rolling out more than that say 1:1 I'd probably want to look at a proper MDM which sadly means license costs etc.
  2. You almost make it sound like it happened on it's own! Did someone from your school actually go through the portal and sign up to a new three year without realising what they were doing?? If so, I would guess you're screwed.
  3. If you are considering AMD I've got a 5800X3D which is excellent for games (better than the i9 mostly) that I am taking out of my rig tonight (due to uncontrollable upgradeitis) :-| The X3D models pretty much spank every equivalent price intel model - my mate went i9 and I went AMD and I get better frames in almost every game we play and he's technically got a stronger GPU too!
  4. "Move to the cloud they said, it'll be better they said." *Looks at papercut server that's been working perfectly fine for the last 5+ years on Ricoh MFPs that have been working perfectly fine for the last 5+ years* Nah your ok thanks.
  5. Sounds like your gonna be moving from a system that works perfectly and is easy to manage, to a Microsoft system. Factor in double the tech support requirement and see how free it is.
  6. I just checked my chalk and slate copy of the oxford english dictionary and it's not there. It must be some kind of new fangled modern slang word?
  7. Hire that pupil to "white hat" keep an eye on your system!
  8. It might be difficult as the longer you leave a snapshot, live, the harder and longer it takes to remove - looks like yours has been there a very long time now it's almost permanent. If you google .avhdx you'll get loads of pages on this issue. Good luck!
  9. Lol "this is an ex-customer then"
  10. Wow I have a few days off and this thread has sure escalated! Well done to Bromcom and Arbor for taking on ESS.
  11. You can put the 1.2tb drives in but only 600GB will be used on each drive - so you may have 2 x 1.6 and 2 x 0.6 drives but your raid array will only have 4x0.6gb worth of usable storage.
  12. Intune and Win 11 seems a big step backwards. I'll be holding off on Win11 for as long as I can.
  13. I take your point. Not sure about being afraid of risk on a new system, when the current BMS barely works? If we are risk adverse then we will never do anything? But yeh it doesnt seem like there's any easy routes when it comes to BMS at all and the the DIY part of it would look very complex and not for the faint hearted I grant you that!!
  14. Hi All. Our BMS is rubbish - very unreliable the individual bits of hardware dotted around are up and down, temp sensors failing, etc. We have to pay a third party as the system was originally put in by the LA but we get terrible value out of those support contracts. The physical hardware is ok, reliable as on boilers (if old) it always seems to be the third party electronics and garbage 90s software interface that lets us down. Im thinking outside the box now and thinking surely there must be a better way - maybe bring this in house and roll something with a modern BMS, i don't know home assistant or some other modern BMS. How to you do it? anyone brought BMS in house? Anyone using freely available software like home assistant? When the system at home works 100x more relaibily than the ££££££ system in school it makes me think maybe we should be looking at these home systems instead for inspiration!!
  15. Sounds like you've got it well under control then! Good work!
  16. That sounds ideal!
  17. Ok great I'll give it a go!!
  18. IMHO Top slice the whole lot is usually the best way since then all the schools have no choice but to invest the requisite amount. Ben do you run into issues where some schools invest and some schools are less inclined to invest or prioritise elsewhere other than IT?
  19. I need to look at 3cx next our old mitel system is getting a bit creaky
  20. It's all the same people that used to buy the daily mail and sun. Sadly appears to be 50% of the population.
  21. Can you get a PC instead you'll get a much faster system for much less money?
  22. Requirements and Best practice are two different things! Be interested to see what people do about requirements for sure.
  23. Cheers will have a look.
