Mines a NaviTEK NT but I've had it many years so not sure if its a current model. It's got a CAT6e Port and a empty SFP port. I use it with a Ubiquiti 10G fibre SFPs which can be picked up for peanuts - I assume it works with other SFP such as cisco etc but maybe check before you buy?

Be VERY careful with low quality lithium batteries - given that they are explosive and have a track record causing house/car fires etc I would not put myself anywhere near the litigation potential by using non OEM batteries on hundreds of school devices. That's just me but.....some of the garbage semi fake stuff you can get out of china is proper dangerous a syn says above.

I belive the low-medium end ideal networks testers have an SFP port so you can plug in fibre SFP and test that. Not overly cheap I think mine was £600-800 odd? But much much cheaper than a proper fluke tester.

Hi have you set the proxy server manually in the file on the C drive? I cant remember off hand where the file is I think it is in the actual supass folder in program files? The app is so backwards it can't just auto detect proxy serttings from windows like every other app in the world does.

V3 seems to be pretty much V2 with a couple of bells and whistles - am I right in thinking it will be just as useless moving forward with regards to supporting windows 11 and complying with cybersecurity best practice (regular updates, etc)?

We ended up providing school ipads to staff with Authenticator on, as we didn't expect them to use their own phones (and 4g is VERY patchy on site so it wouldn't work well). Extra brucie bonuses are: 1 They have a device they can use at home to do work 2 They have a great camera and mic for taking classroom photos/videos has been particularly useful for orals or PE performance feedback, social media etc. 3 We can push free apps from the app store, useful for classcharts and things like that. 4 We can push specific paid for apps that are darn good like iDoceo, Goodnotes, Lumafusion etc very handy for specific departments Don't really have any regrets to be honest other than not sure where were gonna find the money for replacements in 5 years time but hey ho that's ever been the same problem in my 23 years of doing this so I don't worry about it any more!

I've had a lot of weird file system permission errors lately since about mid November which coincidentally was the same time a MS patch went on. I initially blamed the LA for fiddling in the AD but now I am not so sure.

Went to see another school who were using synology boxes and they have apps that can backup google or office365 for free apparently! Gonna try it myself.

They are fine for powering a CD rom drive or hard drive etc - the burn down your house comes from people who have tried to daisy chain 6 of them in order to power a graphics card or something stupid like that.

Has it been PAT tested recently? PAT test will tell you if there's anything weird going on with regards to earth leakage or shorting etc.

We went full google during lockdown everyone had a chromebook not a single bit of A4 printed whilst the School was closed and guess what we had some of the best results in the area which means printing has no discernable effect on results. Gone right back to square 1 now, in fact some departments are even worse. SLT's issue to deal with and I sure aint SLT judging from my paypacket.

2d design is a funny one, it's a niche that no other product quite fits in - much simpler to use and understand than other vector software but still very powerful in the right hands. We've been looking for a replacement for the last 2 years and cant quite find something that will replace it well.

I've been wanting to fit UPS to each switch for some time as that would keep a lot of infrastructure up and running in a power cut, phones CCTC 1:1 Chromebook etc. There's never money for it and it's such a rare event there probably never will be. If more and more exams run on PCs in IT suites really there isn't much most schools can do to negate that as it would be prohibitively expensive to design an infrastructure around keeping all devices on during a powercut.

That looks good, Ideally you'd want to build up a couple of years worth of data so you can really see the impact of the changes. Would be interested to see your continuing results! From the maths I did a few years ago even a badly optimised IT estate pales into insignificance compared to the amount of energy schools use on Heating, Lighting, Canteen, Cookery rooms, etc. so ICT cost savings as a whole is definitely not worth spending lots of money on as you won't stand a chance to get that money back. Now anything you can do for free - is a win win!

Basically - it's a website front page which links to a bunch of remote desktops. I.e it is not cloud based so if you are going to tender on CLOUD MIS's then sims connected should not even make the shortlist.

I think it's about right for "sleeping" which is technically still partly turned on. IF it was actually shut down fully I bet it would be maybe 2-3watts at a guess?

Is there a reason why you cant run a network connection back to the extreme switch for the camera rather than bodging via mini switches? A normal dumb mini switch will not understand VLANs sadly.
