I assume they are talking about you charging your users for scanning rather than them charging you for scanning? We didn't bother charging users for scanning as we just use scan to email and it's easy to use no training and no real cost. I guess you could technically if you were belt and braces say there should be some charge to cover wear and tear on the machine & software & support costs etc but I don't see the point it's all coming from the same main school budget so your just robbing Peter to pay Paul and possibly discouraging people form using the reprographics services for no real reason.

It would be naïve to say that need is all that matters. Need always has to be balanced by can we afford it? Something that the credit card payday loan PCP car rental generation(s) of today have completely lost sight of . Clearly a company can't just decide to spend an unaffordable amount of money on something just because they need it. If a school turns over 2 million a year and 1.7 million goes on staff costs then it's going to be literally impossible for the school to afford something that costs a million quid no matter how you cut it, no matter how you pay for it, no matter how many years you lease it for, it's still just plain unaffordable. So sometimes the answer has to be no.

It depends - are you actually ending your SIMS contract? Nova T is part of SIMS so I would sincerely doubt you would be licensed to use it if you've dropped SIMS?

To be honest that looks a bit of a bodged together concoction of different parts. The randomly sized and shaped nuts and bolts and bits of what look like unistrut holding it all together mean I sincerely doubt this was a "kit" that you will find instructions for.

Yeh that web interface slowing down does point at the core switch having issues - can you view logs of CPU/memory usage on the core to see if it's getting saturated? My old core switch that we've gotten rid of looks like it had over 3x the switching capacity of your core so that could be an issue now you've expanded the school and wifi massively. Though all of the above doesn't really explain why it's gone slow since a power cut! Have you tried rebooting the core since then?

It doesn't matter how much they try and bury their heads in the sand - it was a breech clear and simple - unauthorised people access unauthorised personal data - that's always going to be a breech. So whilst classcharts appear to be saying that if it wasn't a mass data hack, it wasn't a breech, that shows their own staff's lack of understanding about data protection which is probably why this all happened in the first place. Agree with the above - put Hyper V on the new server, p2v the old server to the new as a hyper v guest, that keeps the entire domain running, then put 2022 and hyper v on the old server, you now have 2 physical servers you can use in the future. Start creating new 2022 guest vms and splitting up roles on to the new servers. Start with a new DC VM and work your way around from there, file server vm, app server vm, print server vm, etc. This gives you a nice easily backupable easily transferrable "set of VMs" to use in the future which should increase reliability and uptime.

Well preferred = dhcp so that could cause some problems if the switches are rebooting and the switches deal with dhcp!

It shouldn't make a difference as it's almost impossible to have a boot order when recovering from a power cut for example. Unless your switches are DHCP and relying on some other server or device for that. Personally I always set everything to do with infrastructure to a static IP address so it never needs to rely on anything else to boot and connect.

The only way classcharts are going to understand the ramifications of their poor decisions are if schools actually drop the contracts and leave them. All the blah blah on the forums and in the newspapers won't make any difference really as all the money is still coming in.

Given that most secondary schools turn over 2 to 4 million quid per year, every secondary school can afford £5000 odd a year if they decided they need it. I guarantee you there's much more money already being spent per year on much worse "designed by a guy in a shed" software.

Your absolutely right - but high end multinational contract negotiation at a lawyer/solicitor trained level is not a skillset that most schools can ever hope to have available in their staff. So really what your saying is most schools are not capable of going out to tender in a way they can fully protect themselves from litigation, and really only the LAs/Big academys etc can stand a chance?

I was thinking this earlier. "Risk of unnecessary litigation" or "Risk of underhanded legal documentation" (like when capita forced all schools to accept data loss/corruption as part of the contract, or stop using the product immediately) could be definite items you would want to consider in a procurement exercise and that would immediate preclude a couple of companies. I guess it's Arbour from now on then?

There's plenty of evidence around that having a new modern nice well heated well ventilated area improves many outcomes, not a straight +1 grade increase but just a general improvement in many areas e.g. wellbeing behavior etc. even just the new paint colour etc can make differences. You would more than likely be happier and more productive in a brand new state of the art, dry, warm house, as opposed to in a horrible old cold dark full o damp and mold and rats, house? That's an over-exaggerated example....but..

It's not a good look for Bromcom though is it they might have won the legal and moral high ground - what school is going to want to even engage with a company that will send the rabid lawyers in at any available opportunity? I mean that's the kind of moronic big business bully tactics we are all trying to get away from with ESS/CAPITA/etc
