Same problem at home for me, I have 3 iDect phones (bought about 2 months ago). When the phone is picked up from the main base station it kills my BB, the sync drops.... I keep meaning to hunt around for a filter that will stop this but hey ho, haven't got around to it..

I had noticed my home PC wasn't updating tonight, here's what it says. The PC has been on since about 17:00 tonight. I'm sure it was on last night as well (memory not too good this week, it's been a blur!!) Bit worrying if it's been down that long edit: Very worrying, can't get to sophos.com or sophos.co.uk

You'll probably get lots of different answers on this one! With our new servers I've tried to go RAID 1 system drive and RAID 5 on the data drive. Where possible I've tried to have a hot swap spare as well. Normally the budget dictates you strip things to the bare minimum, luckily we had the funds to do things properly on this occassion and I could afford to do the above

Don't suppose the madness extends to APC 42u racking as well?

Having just gone to put our new rackmount servers into the racks supplied in our new school I've discovered it's 800x800 and not deep enough........ I'm looking at getting one of the 42U APC racks, as the server/comms room has air con and is locked, am I right in thinking there's no need for the rack to have sides/doors? The reduced width will make life muich easier getting the rack in as it's bit tight! Getting the old rack out will be a different matter....... Cheers!

I don't know if it would be my one key thing (and may tie in with your things for BETT #1), but I think an explanation of what techies/NMs do, the constraints we work in (budget, laws, guidelines,etc) and how we can, and do try our best to, work with teaching staff to better things for all! Oh and I second Wizzards idea as well

Aye, congrats to Nicole, had the 'pleasure' of working with her dad, he was the head of science at our school (well technically still is until the end of August), and yes he's a keen cyclist to!

@ Archers, that rings a bell, been a while since I did it though! Just a reminder, don't forget to tell your users, and remind them (even though Exchange does this whenever the cleanup runs for you (you can custimse the message)) A number of our users were using the sent items as a storage folder, and they don't understand that deleted items is just that!!

Thanks to all for your suggestions and sympathies! It was an IIS problem, I needed to change the SSL IP to the new one as well. I'd done all the other IPs in IIS...... I had also not changed the SMTP address in Exchange to the new one... Lesson learnt! Stiill changing IP wasn't as horrendous as some posts on the interweb suggested it may be! The LA have also sorted out the ISA server problem which was preventing us getting onthe net. So, touch wood, today is turning out to be a good day. That's a cue for major problems..........

Most definitely not alone in our place. We've just moved into a new school, there's loads of pickford bods and lorries transporting all the teachers (and our) junk. The LA are moving all our PCs and old servers, lots of deliveries - 5 new servers today , site staff, my tech, plus contractors finishing off work - inlcuding the dozy pillocks who were disc-cutting the stairwell complete with sparks and smoke and constantly setting the smoke alarms off

I'm interested to know how you get 16bit apps running in 64bit windoze? Like Oops, when I tried our maths progs it was a def no go. I'm literally about to install 3 32bit TS for this reason, if 64bit had worked I may have only got 2 servers running 64bit with more RAM... I have told our maths faculty that in 5 years time (when our warranty is up on servers and we'll in the market for new ones!) these progs will be history!

No, tried on the actual server itself. I'm having a few thoughts as to other things to try, but wanted to post here for thoughts as well in case I still can't get on the net tomorrow! I was also having trouble with accessing our website and intranet on the server it's hosted on, so it makes me think it maybe DNS or IIS.

Checking the MX was something I thought about, but my tech and I were kicked out of school as soon as our deliveries had arrived, and I didn't get a chance to check. The registering/flushing was something I hadn't thought of! Who knows by tomorrow it may have magically fixed itself! Hope so, I've got 5 servers to install plus an exchange migration......... I think some more posts may be forthcoming soon!

Hope someone can help! Following the move to our new school I've finally managed to get our servers back up and running and I've changed them over to the new IP range we have. Now I'm not able to connect to exchange via OWA (this is on the Exchange server itself nd other PCs). (I don't now about Outlook as we have no clients setup yet!) I've checked DNS to ensure the new IP for the exchange server is there. I've also checked IIS to ensure that it's not pointing at the old IP. Can anyone offer any other suggestions!? To be honest I haven't had a huge dig around yet as a delivery of new Servers and laptops turned up, and I was also trying to resolve with the LA the fact that their ISA server won't allow us on the Internet at the same time (hence the post now not earlier and also rather than waiting until tomorrow in case I still can't get on the net!)...... edit: 2003 server SP2 with Exchange 2003 SP2 TIA!

Pretty self explanatory! Does your authority have an education IT dept? Our LA have got rid of theirs during a recent reorganisation and this concerns me! Now any requests go to the corporate dept who have limited understanding of how schools work, it also incurs a charge, even for just meeting to discuss a requirement/idea (cheeky *****ds!) I also feel that with VLEs, etc, this should be led centrally, especially with the 14-19 learning pathways coming in and pupils moving schools. Before I rasie this at a higher level locally, I thought I'd ask here what happens in other areas of the UK!
