This is the route I'm planning on going. Backed up with a good policy in the staff handbook, and some INSET training from me! The key message being if staff lose a memory stick/USB drive and the personal data is in the encrypted part they're in teh clear. If they lose it, and personal data is not encrypted they face the consequences!

I've just spotted two pupil profiles under documents and settings on our Storage server. I can't work out how they have logged on to it. The server is in a locked server room, and I've just tried remote desktop to it as a teacher and pupils account and it's come back as expected and said that they don't have the rights to login. I've checked their accounts and they are only pupil accounts i.e. no extra rights.... One of these little darlings is the first pupil we've had who concerns me! He has some knowledge and if he doesn't, he knows the dubious forums to go on to get it!

Ditto. And with our link to our council and hence Internet saturated at times anyway, we'd have problems throwing more data down our link! Interesting topic this, I always took cloud computing to mean out there on the web, but using Ubuntu and having it in house is something to think of for the future.

Thinking about this I probably should have left Axel off the list above. You just reminded me that I haven't got around to enabling the sound and testing on the M80's yet! Surprised the teacher who uses them hasn't nagged me about it, she's normally the first to complain about anything..........

we use 2008R2 std servers and a mix of axel thin clients and Thinstation on old PCs and also Thinstation on Samsung SM thin clients. I've not noticed any lag on these, but sound quality is poor and sometimes stutters a bit. But then for what these do (web browsing and word, etc) I view sound as a bonus not a requirement!

Oh yes! The film with how the young guy (not stereotypical Paedophile) collects info on the girl is very good for getting the message across to staff as to how much info they give away as well. Don't know if it helps, but I have 2 x quad cores in my servers on 2008R2 std and it sees all of them.

From bitter experience I can vouch that 12 doesn't support SQL 2008........

Have got it pulling in e-mails but that's it, it doesn't send out acknowledgements of the call received/updated/closed. I have a call in with Ozan for this, but we're trying to sort out other issues first. Have you got this far?
