Is there anyone out there with a working BT Versatility system? Can anyone help? We've been quoted £360 by BT for them to fix this issue!

Despite it being an older system, we still have a working BT Versatility phone system that mostly does all we need it to. However, after some staff changing offices and subsequent re-programming by the Office Manager, the auto attendant isn't doing quite what it should. All the correct entensions ring if the caller presses a number when promted. However, if they don't press anything and just wait, instead of the main office handset ringing, the HR extension rings, and no-one else can pick up the call from their extension. Does anyone know how to change the default extension that rings when the caller doesn't select an option during the auto attendant greeting? I didn't have anything to do with the re-programming, and the Office Manager can't remember what she did that might have changed it. I've got several manuals for the system and I can't find anything about changing the default extension. Can anyone help?

I've just tried it and it works! The anycomms client transferred all files successfully.

Well our AVCO isn't working today and it has the avco.leedslearning.net address in the config. Also, I can't get an nslookup to any leedslearning.net site so I'm waiting for a response from Data Management to see what is the recommended solution.

I read that they were switching the mail server off at 17:30 today, not midnight! I saved PST files for senior leadership and anyone who asked me to. Hopefully other staff will have listened to my warnings, read my emails, and broadcast messages warning them about the imminent switch off of LLN. If that didn't do it, hopefully the intranet home page will - see below:

I've ordered it today from YHGfL - its a one off £190 which lasts until 10/03/2016 and includes 40 home user licenses for staff. Its even cheaper if you use YHGfL for internet as well.

Nope, we went with Exa-Networks. I overlooked Sophos. I'd included it in my budget but forgot to place an order-doh! I was just trying to pre-empt any problems.

I'd be up for that. Is anyone still using Sophos? Any issues getting updates from from YHGfL instead of LLN?

You said the student domain was in a mess. Now is your chance to sort that. You can start by NOT exporting/importing student users. As @p858snake said get an export from your MIS of all students in csv format and use a Powershell script (if you're into Powershell) or one of the many other bulk add to AD tools availble. It may be more work now, but will be worth it.

Ha, ha, you said 'ear grease'. Sorry, that just made me laugh! That's waht they do here - I didn't like it at first but if everyone does it, then at least it does keep the headphones ready to use and reduces the amount of tangled cables - especially if you cable tie and hot glue them to the PC! Seriously, I've had to resort to hot glueing the plugs in to stop them being moved...

Same here - only ever had one drive die and the terrastation carried on happily until the replacement drive arrived, after which it prompty re-built the array and I've never had to touch it since. I also have one of their 'consumer' units, a LinkStation which I use for my admin stuff and archiving which has also never skipped a beat.

I would also look at Bufallo Terrastation PRO. I've used them in several schools without any major issues. They play nicely with Server 2008 and 2012 and have a good (if somewhat slow) web interface - or NASNavigator software for configuring them.

I've used Zoho helpdesk https://www.zoho.com/google-apps/helpdesk.html Its very good and free for one 'agent'.As its all done online, it gets round your issue of not being able to get emails in/out. That said, I'd still recommend Spiceworks if you can get it working when you switch internet providers. It does so much more than just the helpdesk which makes your life easier.

Why? What's the project actually for? I only ask because I once got stuck on a similar scripting task which became so over-complicated that no-one could understand it. After taking a step back I realised I could achieve what I was trying to do with a simple spreadsheet that took 10 mins to create and 10 seconds to update once in a while.

I had them in for a demo last year. Their big selling points are print speed, quality, and low running costs. The big negative for us was the cost of the printer itself. As we needed 4 units around school, it was prohibitively expensive. If we'd only needed one device, we would have gone with RISO all day long. Get the RISO demo van in - its worth seeing them in action and we got free sweets and pens (we all know how much an EduGeek likes freebies!)
