  1. The bank called me this morning and said I had outstanding balance. "I know!" I replied, "I've not fallen over for years!"
  2. bmdixon: Thanks for letting me know about that. It's a simple fix in the web/css/printmaster.css file. Look for 'div#buttoncontainer input' and change display: block to display: inline. The 'n' is because it uses Wingdings for the circle symbol instead of the HTML character entity • on other pages. I've now fixed this and the updated code is on Github (for both fixes). Download the zip file again, and extract the web/ and views/ folders, overwriting your own.
  3. If you want to learn something new and store binary files with the data ("officially"), have a look at Apache CouchDB. Be careful though: re-inventing the wheel costs time.
  4. dhicks: I think the Next tablet uses a resistive touchscreen, rather than the much better and more responsive capacitive. Along with having Android 2.1+, I think this is one of the main factors in deciding on which tablet to buy. I'm also looking forward to seeing what the device will offer that will be available from Currys/Dixons/PC World. A few sources have advised people to wait for the official Android edition for tablets, instead of the current mobile-centric versions. For a totally polished and useable device, right now I don't think you can beat the Apple iPad. But for hackability and if you don't mind a bit of tinkering or slightly less tolerance to build quality; one of the less-costly Android devices in the above-£200 mark will probably be great. I also think that to make the purchase of a tablet worth while, you really need one with a 10" screen, as 7" is just too small for the type of device they are.
  5. Do they not realise how privileged they are to have this? If they don't want it, fine... send the BT engineers up to Bishop Auckland so they can furnish us with some fibre
  6. Your Twitter Username
  7. Did I tell you about my easiest job? Working in the returns department at the boomerang factory.
  8. You need this on the line above it: $validator = new fValidation(); ( As you have on line 87 )
  9. RANDOM.ORG - True Random Number Service
  10. When it comes to web development and design, a good portfolio of work is probably worth more than a piece of paper saying you have a degree. Especially considering (from what I hear) FE/HE are still teaching methods such as tables for layouts.
  11. Nothing wrong with PHP if used correctly.
  12. Android 2.2 comes with WiFi Tethering; but operators may disable this feature if they sell phones with custom firmware. There's nothing to it really - just enable the wifi hotspot and away you go. The AP name and security is configurable. What does Joikuspot do extra?
  13. PhotoRec - CGSecurity
  14. It probably did at the time. Are you suggesting we all need to go to the pub now so we can understand it?
  15. You've missed out an apostrophe
  16. I've just read about this in the last issue of Linux Format - looks like it could be useful to some of us. http://www.observium.org/screenshots-0.10.6/device-linux-700.png Main Page - Observium
  17. Have a word with other support staff departments - office, first aid, behaviour, those sort of areas. Ask people if there are any manual or time-consuming processes you could help improve or develop software for (if that's your thing) to do something better. Several things we've done based on what needs have arisen: Internal searchable phone directory on intranet (search-as-you-type style) First aid requests via intranet (room number, sent to receptionist, they then radio for roving first aiders) Database to manage detentions (staff enter student names/reasons; can be updated if they don't attend; letter generation) Do students always know where they need to be? An idea of bossman's would suit us, and possibly others: A touch-screen terminal for students to quickly look up what lesson they should be in now, or later in the day. Entirely possible and cheap using touch screen LCD monitor, ITX/SFF PC and a custom GUI (web based?). From a technical side, you could look at server/service monitoring with tools like Nagios and Cacti if you don't already.
  18. As angry as the birds? I can put up with the ads.
  19. I started playing the demo last week after some friends told me the beta was available for Android. Very good fun Encountered a full-screen ad for The Social Network complete with video trailer though...
  20. JJonas: Rovio.com
  21. I see a few of the complaints are issues about file formats. This wouldn't have been an issue if MS Office didn't use its proprietary format in the first place! The first quote from Scotland police is from 2005 - that's a huge amount of time in technology terms. One news story at the time quotes: (source) Another take on the video: Why did Microsoft validate OpenOffice.org? « rand($thoughts);
  22. She looks like Tubbs from The League of Gentlemen.
  23. All hand-coded by the looks of it. *blink*
