  1. If you do use a drive from another laptop (which I'd recommend) - just watch out for the front bazel (you may have to remove it). Laptop optical drives don't all have the eject button/activity LED in the same place, so you may not be able to use the one from the L20.
  2. It's not the CRB system that is wrong as such - it does a good job of keeping known dangerous people from working with other people they can prey on (again). It just can't predict a previously-un-convicted person's future intentions.
  3. Not yet, but it's something I might be looking at in the near future for a project. Out of interest, why avoid using a framework?
  4. Nice presentation I saw a while ago on web services: PHP And Web Services: Perfect Partners PHP MVC frameworks may have libraries that support REST. For example, CodeIgniter (my favourite) has a nice community REST library: philsturgeon's codeigniter-restserver at master - GitHub
  5. Screen capture software such as CamStudio to record the PC while running the presentation. Then your video editor of choice to mix them together.
  6. Edu-IT: Err, Capita.. local government.. ?
  7. Here's an eerily-accurate prediction from AT&T, 1993:

  9. OCS Inventory NG might fit your requirements.
  10. Or Appcelerator Titanium.
  11. Half an hour listening to the kids is enough to gather a comprehensive list!
  12. Just like netbooks after the EeePC, I think we'll see the non-Apple tablet market settle out with sensible pricing and decent spec in the next 6-12 months. There are some promising devices, with useful additional features such as memory card slots, VGA-out and webcams. I think a 10" screen would be about the right size, once you get down to about 7" you're getting closer to a mobile phone.
  13. More expensive because it's better The Reg has this as well - http://www.reghardware.com/2010/09/08/samsung_galaxy_tab_sales/
  14. You can access SMB shares with the ASTRO file manager app and it's SMB plugin. Works great.
  15. The time suggests it's some electrical device set to activate on a timer (albeit several minutes out) and causing the issue you describe. You might find some of the advice here helpful: Television Interference
  16. Yep, that'll do! You're welcome
  17. I'd set the static IP address in /etc/network/interfaces. auto eth1 iface eth1 inet static address 10.60.25.25 netmask 255.0.0.0 network 10.0.0.0 gateway 10.0.0.1 Replace other IPs with ones to match your network. You can then do sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart followed by ifconfig eth1 to check that it's being set.
  18. This is as much of a revelation as what you getting your hair cut was a while ago Wear them with pride! If you get too much stick you might be able to try contact lenses?
  19. If you go in to the BIOS setup, it will usually tell you info about the battery - whether it is being detected, can be charged or needs replacing. In my experience, recent Dell laptops have been very flaky with batteries.
  20. Set up 4 new computers, rename staff accounts of those who have married and complete a minor website update. Not sure I'll get it all done before next Tuesday
  21. Here's the one we use on our Zimbra server: http://stuff.m0php.net/zcf/badwords.txt
  22. I'm currently working on something like that for my degree project, using PHP/MySQL. Will let you know once it's finished.
  23. Weird and scary only begin to describe that video and Die Antwoord in general.
  24. Yes - Woman Caught On Security Camera Dumping Kitten In Wheelie Bin For No Apparent Reason | UK News | Sky News Evil woman. Someone should put her in a wheelie bin for 15 hours.
  25. In-house. Gives us greater flexibility and will still work even when our internet doesn't.
