Here's one I made earlier.

If you are using .htaccess with mod_rewrite, then URLs should not include index.php.

*raises hand* Don't you remember the Chorley conference last month? We're getting a dedicated articles section for that sort of stuff. Aren't we? On a similar note, I quite like the stackoverflow/serverfault method of message rating and solving.

Same as FN-GM - started working at 16. Been at that same place now for a long time...

This sounds like a job interview question My opinion of outstanding IT is when it allows users to achieve what they need to do more effectively, more efficiently and quicker than it would take them without IT. I think "First time every time" is also a key factor, as well as being consistently reliable. Ideally, users expecting it to work should be the norm, and not the exception. Outstanding isn't all about pushing the boundaries and being at the cutting edge of all the latest software and hardware; unless of course there's a very good reason to do so

I think it's a good idea. Although I'm a fan of the term specialist over expert to describe the sort of people you mentioned.

Like you had before - this bit: $message = ' C3 Referral Form '; When using single quotes you do it like this: $message = ' .... </pre><table> Name:' . $name . ' </table><br> <br> <br><p>
-
Looks OK. When testing, to save on mailing each time, you could just do echo $message; to show it on the page instead, and comment out the mail() line.

Yes, in theory Sending it as plaintext allows certain characters such as \n (newline) and \t (tab). For example: $body = "Student name: $name \t\t Tutor Group: $tutor_group\n\n"; This has certain drawbacks that the values for $name etc will be of different and unknown lengths - resulting in some lines longer than others. Without some messy calculations (or generating an HTML email) I think that's the best you are likely to achieve. With HTML email you can format that data nicely in a table. If you want to do this, have a look at Example 4 on the mail() function documentation.

AutoIt has a _INetSmtpMail function which allows you to specify the SMTP server. The requirement for logging in is usually dependant on the mail server you use and how it's configured.

Only the name part is used for forms when passing data. The ID is used to uniquely identify elements for CSS and Javascript.

[hosting] Register .sch.uk domain and self-hosting

As far as I know, you still need a DNS server (or service provided by someone who has an IPS tag) to say that the A record for that domain points to the school's IP address. -
The contents of the mail that is sent is stored in the $body variable. Presently, it is set to do very little: $body = "Name: $name \n\n"; Taking that back a step or two, you first look at where $name is. $name = trim($_POST['contactname']); That retrieves the value of the form field named 'contactname', strips any leading/trailing whitespace and assigns it to the $name variable. You just need to add similar lines for your other fields. In your form: I would recommend changing the value of the "name" attribute to something without spaces and uppercase letters. E.g, tutor_group. Same goes for all other fields. Then: $name = trim($_POST['contactname']); $tutor_group = trim($_POST['tutor_group']); ... $body = "Name: $name \n\n"; $body .= "Tutor group: $tutor_group\n\n"; ... So you just carry on adding to the $body variable with the appropriate fields.

Yes that should be it. Don't forget to restart the web server after making changes to php.ini.

Do a search for SMTP, and you should find this area: [mail function] ; For Win32 only. ; http://php.net/smtp SMTP = localhost ; http://php.net/smtp-port smtp_port = 25 Specify your favourite mail server hostname or IP address in there (replacing localhost in the example above). Ensure the SMTP server security/policies will accept and relay messages from your IIS host though.

PHP's mail function depends on its configuration in php.ini. On Windows, you should specify an SMTP server for it to use. On Linux/Unix, you need to specify the path to sendmail (or a sendmail-like program. Which in turn can be configured to send via SMTP or relay it directly).

Health and Safety Implications of using a Laptop with a Broken Screen

Explain that the [extended] warranty is void if repairs are not carried out as soon as faults appear. If she is prepared to pay the repair costs herself, she is quite welcome to keep it. Otherwise it must be returned. EDIT: loads of info at the HSE (http://www.hse.gov.uk/msd/dse/guidance.htm) Hopefully you'll find a sensible quote to bash the user over the head with -
Having the right software to open and edit RAW photos is half of the equation. Without it, just stick to JPEG.

It all depends on what you're photographing. If you find you have to move back more than you do forward you'd probably be more suited to a 35mm. The best way to find out, if you have a zoom, is to use it constantly at a fixed zoom level equivalent to a prime (35mm, 50mm...) and see how you get on.

I think you must have dreamt it There's a lot of work to be done to import from SIMS due to the many different ways that timetables are set up - trying to do this now would only hold back a release.

Saw your tweet about that - very interesting indeed. Only taken 5 years

As far as I know, that's working as designed. When you remove the magicbox between the outside world and your LAN, you're removing a transparent proxy service which directs traffic through DurhamNet and applies filtering. In my personal opinion, due the lack of flexibility with the DurhamNet filtering solution, you'll be much better off purchasing something like Smoothwall and replacing the magicbox with it.
