    MDMs

I have found MDM coverage for Android terrible. We have 20 donated Daily Mail Samsung A7's and need a MDMD/Safeguarding solution for them. SecURLy is looking good. Lightspeed coverage of Android is woeful. https://help.lightspeedsystems.com/s/article/MDM-Features-by-OS?language=en_US
  2. Issue with soundbars is the input selection and loosing the remote. The Sahara wall mounted spreakers are more simple and sound better although don't look as "modern".
  3. Very important to have the lockdown policies correct in Google Admin. Also you will need a Chromebook compatible Safeguarding solution. We used SecURLy which is a bit US orientated but is a rock solid filtering solution which occurs on the device so filters at home too. It also can send alerts if its A.I. detects concerning activity. It does not take a screenshot like some UK based solutions for PCs. Not sure if any Chromebook solution can take screenshots.
  4. Firstly GOOD CHOICE. Chromebooks are by far the easiest device to deploy in bulk. Be prepared for repairs and damaged Chromebooks to be a big part of your job. We rolled out 1:1 during covid lock down. Trust paid for them centrally (over 2500 units!) with no contribution from parents. We got the bulk of them in one batch which may have been a problem as we seem to have suffered from a dodgy lockdown batch from Acer. Out of 400 we have sent 20+ back for repair. This may have just been a transitory issue as a few years ago Acer made the best Chromebooks on the market. Our other Chromebooks DELL, HP Samsung have been fine. We had Acer C733U-C2XV model the issue was they would refuse to charge. When they come back from Acer they are diagnosed as faulty battery or faulty motherboard. Have a water tight policy for damages and keep good records if they are returned to you for repair. We had some smashed screens which are very easy to fix your self if you order the LCD. Don't send broken scrrens off for repair as it really easy to do the fix in house and much cheaper too. We charged the parents £50 for the cost of the screen. We had 1 or 2 with picked off keys. Thankfully only 1 with proven water damage which is totally unrepairable. Buy some spare USB-C laptop chargers (all new Chromebooks are USB-C) so if you get different makes you don't have to worry about mixed up chargers.
  5. How common is it in cloud PBX offering to count internals calls towards free minutes? Surely with IP it should be totally free and unlimited?
  6. The fix has been issued by Microsoft. We have Ricoh printers and it only caused white bars on photos but only when using Windows Photo Print Wizard. https://gameguiders.com/windows-10-update-to-fix-printer-crashes/ https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/new-windows-10-emergency-updates-fix-remaining-printing-issues/
  7. Just seen this network diagram on the Unifi UISP site https://uisp.ui.com/
  8. All my AC-Lite were affected. Think its G2 hardware affected.
  9. You can also rollback via the UI by pasting the .BIN file URL from the firmware page into the AP > Config > Manage Device > Custom Upgrade option
  10. Link to thread post with fix on UI https://community.ui.com/questions/Clients-not-recieving-DHCP-IP-address-until-AP-is-manually-rebooted/59c3dee6-9e31-4756-92e0-361b78d3b48d#answer/6aabf505-d848-4eb0-a1f9-a3218feae135
  11. We have experienced DHCP timeout issues after a firmware update to 4.3.24. The bug only seems to affect non Ubiquiti DHCP servers (we use Windows DHCP server) We found the only way around it was to reboot each AP until we rolled back to 4.3.20 https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/2304839-some-devices-not-getting-ip-by-unifi-ap-s There is a Beta release that also fixes it but have not tried personally myself.
  12. Adam Curtis should be on the National Curriculum. Love all his stuff!
  13. We bought some TP-link M7200 from SoftCat. https://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-Link-M7200-Portable-Unlocked-management/dp/B0797VW7FG/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=tp-link+m7200&qid=1606983699&s=computers&sr=1-1 Does anyone know if the Free Vodafone School SIM is filtered at all?
  14. I signed up for Securly to cover our 80 DfE Chromebooks at home. The filtering works as a add-on to Chrome so you have to make sure you lock down your Chromebooks to stop it deing disabled. I havn't tried SmartPAC as we only use it on our Chromebooks and they don't need that. The reporting is very easy to use but somewhat "sparce". If you allow Gmail then there is an "Auditor" which uses AI to detect distress etc. You can pay more for a human to monitor logs as well as the AI. I found the alert notification groups harder to setup than they should have been but other wise setup if easy and fast if you need to roll out quick for DfE Chromebooks.
  15. That has also been my experience. They're not used to anyone questioning what data is slurped. It's possible to untick a data item but then your not sure if it will stop things working with the vendor your working with for example UPNs. It doesn't help that we are with ScholarPack and the data selection API on their side is not very granular so the data being sent to Wonde is pretty much all or nothing on the MIS side.
  16. Hi, Have been considering VLANing for a while but this thread has put me off. They seem to be saying that VLANing is not done anymore?!? https://mangolassi.it/topic/5584/hp-switches-2530-vs-1950-vs-1920/29
  17. We want to Mailmerge to sticky labels but we want to have each class on a separate sheet so we don't have to cut the sheets at change of class. Upon change of "class" field can a page break be inserted? It seems it is possible in "Directory" merges but can it be done in "Label" merges? Instuctions below for Directoy merge with page break on change of key field. https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/211303/how-to-use-mail-merge-to-create-a-list-sorted-by-category-in-word-2000
  18. I have FINALLY found where MS hid the settings for Edgeium favorites!! I was trying to find "managed favourites" as in the Chrome ADMX it is called "mananged bookmarks" but MS renamed it to "CONFIGURE favorites". It uses the same JSON format as the Chrome ADMX. This website was usefull in helping me find the correct ADMX files for Edge Chromium. MS refers to this as Edge versions later than version 77. https://www.techrepublic.com/article/how-to-manage-the-new-microsoft-edge-through-group-policy/ also https://osddeployment.dk/2020/02/02/how-to-leveraged-managed-favorites-for-edge-on-windows/
  19. Do you mind posting your XML? Did you use secondary tiles? I believe .ico files are impossible on the start menu.
  20. @jon-senso does senso cloud run on Windows clients? The website makes no mention and makes me think its Chromebook only hence the cloudyness?
  21. I really would like to add a tile in my users start menu for websites with their own icon. I have used the XML layout file successfully. Also I have read here https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/configuration/start-layout-xml-desktop#start-secondarytile and here https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/configuration/start-secondary-tiles that you can specify a secondary tile and add your own icon but it is very convoluted and requires according to the article the use of Windows Configuration Designer and .ppkg packages. Does anyone know of an easier way?
  22. Seems Azure AD is required if you want to use the new Setup School PCs app https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/education/windows/use-set-up-school-pcs-app and which can make use of shared PC mode https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/education/windows/set-up-school-pcs-shared-pc-mode
  23. What is their policy if it doesn't work? Even refurbished HPE modules cost a bomb.
  24. We have experienced better wait times with logging on to admin site but have been waiting since 1st May for order to change from PAID to FULFILLED. 2 weeks ago it was a 48hr wait for fullfillment and for the self distributed vouchers it was immediate (bit of a shock). Last week and this week it's just sat at PAID status.
  25. Slightly off topic but is there a discussion on EduGeek about this https://schoolleaders.thekeysupport.com/news/digital-education-platform-scheme/?marker=module-inthenews DfE giving £2000 grants to school to setup online learning environments they will accept use of G Suit and Microsoft 365 only it seems. Not sure if schools who have already deploed a online learning environment can still get the money for laptops or something.
