I think there are probably a couple of days wiggle room built into that.

I have had good results with Sibelius on a Windows domain, it would be best to upgrade your single workstation licencing to network licencing though. Once done you can install Sibelius on as many clients as you want, the licence server application deals with limiting the total number of simultaneous connections. Sibelius support is also very helpful in setting this up (although there isn't much to it!).

I have inherited a old shared area that as always is full and that nobody takes responsibility for. We all know the scenario of trying to get staff to clear out unused files always to be met with the expression of "this doesn't apply to me!". The volume on the server is getting quite full so I have been considering drastic action. What I am hoping to do is re structure the shared area with quota limits on the folders rather than the users. That way we know there is no way the shared volume can completely run out of space. To my knowledge by default Windows can only do quotas per user; so would I be looking at a 3rd party software solution? Has anyone successfully implemented anything like this?

Fair enough, however if you are just running one server I would consider alternatives to Spiceworks as it can hog server resources (particularly RAM).

For a standard win 7 vm, running one application and supporting one mailbox. I would say that is plenty, mine is currently sat on 1%CPU and 125MB RAM.

The vm is running on 1gig RAM (probably over kill) one CPU and 25gig of HDD storage (again this is more than required)

Spiceworks will not communicate with any SMTP/IMAP or POP3 service beyond a proxy; I'm not a 100% sure if using a product like Smoothwall in transparent mode would get around this. Spiceworks is not proxy aware. You could create a subdomain and get your Gmail account to forward emails on. That's what I have done here, I just have a standard win 7 vm running hMailServer. Dead easy to setup and due to Spiceworks not leaving anything in the account there is nothing to tidy up.

Just looking through the manual and I can see where some people here have been having problems particularly with iOS devices. As they always want to connect to the open SSID, this is almost the exact same issue I had with Meru at my previous establishment. Looking at the Ruckus solution I would not be going down the zero it route, and the need to have dedicated SSIDs for each role all seems messy when compared with Areohive. It definitely gives me a new list of questions when I am having my Ruckus demo so thanks again @seawolf

Thanks for the info, as you can guess I have enough info on the Areohive system to make a judgement on that. Hopefully I will be in the same position with Ruckus by the end of next week.

I feel an argument brewing within (not that I need an excuse to have an argument)! My paperwork still hasn't come through but you would imagine that the scenario @Michael paints it the reason for them trying to lock schools in. Out of interest Michael has there been much of a reduction over last years costs?

Its stories like this that are making me consider Areohive, no need for captive portal. You can use PPSK and give everyone their own personal key on the same secure SSID, AD membership can be used to define what VLAN they get put on. You can also set a concurrency limit to stop them from sharing keys. Not that I'm looking at BYOD per se but saw the uses for guest access.
