Do you all remember when Labour wanted to low jack everyone’s cars and charge them for the type of roads and the time they were driving? This would have involved paying of the GPS trackers and for the government to invest in yet another overpriced IT system that wouldn’t have worked. Everyone said at the time it would just be easier to apply the cost at the pump as if you don't drive economically or get stuck in rush hour traffic you will pay more tax. Also more efficient cars would pay less tax, there is no obvious reason not to do it except for the fact that they don’t want to.

However the environmental impact of producing a new car outweighs running an old car to the end of its life.

+1 for SkyGo however it does consume quite a bit of bandwidth. So if you get 2Mbps or less I wouldn't even try.

+1, I would need a bigger team to run my site without the tools RM provides. The cost of more staff would be much larger than the savings from going vanilla. (However this is my scenario, your own experiences may differ.)

Thanks Michael I will switch the MX as soon as I have done my Inset with the staff. Most of them use Outlook.com for personal mail so I shouldn't have many people to explain things to. At the moment the intention is to only migrate staff mailboxes, with student accounts moved on request. That should help cut down on the admin side of things. I will make sure the LEA rename our old domain rather than just redirecting.

I am looking to migrate away from our LA (Birmingham) provided email (Zimbra (webmail only)) to Office 365. The problem I have is: what is the correct order to do things? I have setup Office 365 with email accounts for all of our users, I know in order for mail to actually reach these mailboxes I need to change the MX record. The dilemma I have is that I need to migrate existing emails from the Zimbra system. The only way I know to do this is to connect an Outlook client via POP or SMTP and download everything to a .PST and bring this in through the O365 management. However due to fact that I would only be able to generate one PST at a time this could take a long time. Should I switch the MX record and then bring the mail over gradually? Or should I get all my mail moved and then switch the MX? I know there would be a high chance of missed mail with the latter option particularly if it takes some time to generate the PSTs.

We did this with our sixth form, we would give them an acceptable amount of credit every two weeks (acceptable was defined by the head of sixth form). If they needed to print beyond this they would ask the head of sixth form for more credit as @localzuk says no money changed hands it was an exercise in awareness. We found it got the sixth form printing down by about 1/3rd. We printed on normal paper the rest was up to the head of sixth form. I doubt that model would have worked on a larger scale though.

I have yet to come across a teacher who meets the criteria of a DSE user as most lessons are an hour long and the teachers aren't using the screen continuously without breaks. My exception to that is SLT who do not have a full timetable and have offices where they could (potentially) meet the DSE user criteria. Even then it is an issue for the health and safety officer not ICT Support. Your involvement should be to help provide solutions once the issues have been identified.

With the whole BT sport deal it may not be quite as good but if like me you take Sky line rental, which is cheaper than BT line rental and you don't get stung for the low usage charges! I also have Sky Fibre which involves a BT engineer installing an Infinity connection and paying £20 for the BB. I'm getting on average 80Mbps down and 15Mbps up in an area where ADSL wasn't even close to a 2MB connection. Happy days!

If you are using 2.4GHz AP, have you made sure the channels are set properly? The only non-overlapping channels on this frequency are 1, 6 & 11. You should not have two adjacent AP's on the same channel. If the school has motion detection sensors for the alarms these also tend to interfere with channel 6 (most commonly) albeit only in the area immediately around the sensor. If you have an XP laptop you could try Netstumbler. This will also help if there are houses nearby that may also be conflicting.

If I am recalling the launch event correctly, I am sure they said dedicated servers for each game. However as you say, no details on the spec of server and environment.

I hadn't realised Eurosport had lost the rights too! Typical, I get to the point in my life where I can afford Sky Sports and now hardly anything I watch is on it! The possibility of cancelling the Sports and Sky TV is now a very real prospect for me, however this is exactly what BT want me to think so on that basis I won't!

I can confirm that the Xbox 360 does work with a Buffalo Linkstation. As I just setup mine over the weekend. In the same boat as the OP now hoping the Xbox One will work properly too.

I'm sorry but that is purely down to staff culture. Tight quotas that force users to become conscious of the space they are using are (in my opinion) your best way forward. I do agree that those 512 unread emails probably aren't needed but are you the one that dictates that? If you take the quota route they will arrive at these conclusions by themselves.

Nowhere near as comprehensive as you but I just had it set to delete from the deleted items after 30 days and the restore period set to 7 days. I would never consider removing unread items from an inbox as who am I to say what is and isn't important. The best way around this is to set your user quotas and educate your staff on best practice. Bad practice will mean the user hits their quota limit and then they will have to do something about it.
