Can't delete folder because it's not there...apparently!
foofighterjim replied to StevieM's topic in Windows
I usually find using rmdir in cmd gets rid of these types of folders / files easily. -
Is anything still listed in the tasks menu? If you look at the assignment overview vs a computer that has completed successfully are there any installed failed packages? I have had this on a couple of core update workstations but ended up rebuilding them, on occasion running the core update again has resolved the issue. A rebuild of 2 hours vs 2 hours of trouble shooting, no brainer unless there is something local on the machine.

pxe booting RM Notebook 320
foofighterjim replied to theforce's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Are all of your driver packs up to date (TEC1299560)? If so did you make sure you added the drivers to the PXE image? If you change the images don't forget that you then need to regenerate the wim and import it into WDS. Edit: See TEC3424379 for more info on the latter points. -
Logon Batch Script on RM CC4
foofighterjim replied to PaulRenda's topic in Network and Classroom Management
This is described better in TEC663412 than what I can put on here. Out of interest why get a bat to reference the exe, why not just run the exe with command line switches if necessary? -
Logon Batch Script on RM CC4
foofighterjim replied to PaulRenda's topic in Network and Classroom Management
What exactly are you trying to achieve? I would always try to find a better way than using a .bat but I believe the following would work (please note that I haven't actually done this myself so you will need to test) 1. To run a batch file you need to ensure that all accounts have "Allow execution of 16-bit and DOS applications" enabled in the rights tab of the user accounts. 2. The .bat needs to be in a location accessible to these accounts. 3. In the relevant User Policy you need to: Disable; Software Restrictions> Disable the command prompt. Add the file; General> Specify programs to run after logon. -
Always good to make sure you are up to date on the RM Driver packs (TEC1299560) as even though the actual device may not be relevant the chipset drivers and the like usually do the trick. It sounds like it knows to use the LAN driver in the PE Environment but not in Windows build. In the drivers list on the RMMC is the driver listed? If so does it have the OS you are building to listed? If not it may be rejecting the driver because of the OS version. As a test on the build screen where you specify the name of the device you can click on the drivers tab and instruct the build to use a specific driver. If this works then there may be a newer version of the driver getting in the way.

You should have the following in the build disks node: (possibly without the Windows 8 images) each disk creates a separate wim and needs to be added into WDS this gives you the option of selecting what wim to load on PXE. As I said the WinPE 2.0 wim contains images for XP, Vista and 7. WinPE 3.1 only has Windows 7 images.
-
Just to cover the basics. You say you have downloaded the driver and recreated the build disk. Did you add the driver to the build image and if deploying with WDS did you replace the wim in WDS? The other thing I would try if you are still struggling is use something like Driver Grabber on a fully functional device. It should pull (amongst other things) the LAN driver that is on the device, you will have direct access to the INF without extracting and can test with the new driver.

[news] It's not just the law that's an ass!
foofighterjim replied to laserblazer's topic in Jokes/Interweb Things
So when would teachers and support staff get time off then? Schools would need to employ more staff to ensure there would be enough cover for teachers on holiday. What about ICT support if you're a one person department? -
Malaysia Airlines MH17 Lost Over Ukraine - Shot Down?
foofighterjim replied to 6Foot2's topic in General Chat
Did I say it was fair? Did the Germans get to vote about their country being divided up? What I am saying is that is so different from what happened with Germany (particularly Berlin) that you can't draw a comparison. -
It depends on if the RMMC gets a response from the exe to say it is installed. Some exes have a switch that will actually report status or some have switches that will just reply succeeded. Drivers like this are generally a pain (as I am sure you well aware by now!) Edit: Just looked at the switches, try using /SE too, to suppress the EULA. I know this is implied by /S but it is worth a try.

Malaysia Airlines MH17 Lost Over Ukraine - Shot Down?
foofighterjim replied to 6Foot2's topic in General Chat
The difference is that the Germany split was enforced after WW2, it was never "voted" for by the public. -
Is it actually failing or is it being declined? I see from your ini that you only list OS=5.WS, by default this will only enable use on XP and Server 2003 (possibly Vista too) in the constraints section of the package. If you need it to install on Windows 7 you will need select the relevant OS(s) from the list so it will install.

+1 for Final Fantasy VII; the most epic game I have ever played back when telling the story actually mattered.

They look like a cross between F1 and Le Mans style cars. Interesting to see McLaren being one of the early adopters. You're right about the voting part it is almost as ridiculous as the double points rule in F1 for the last race.

Internal Private IP Address Range, Need Advice!
foofighterjim replied to a topic in Network and Classroom Management
This is exactly what we had at my previous school, we could run any IP and subnet we wanted because it was all internal and NAT took care of the external. I had quite a shock when I came back into the Birmingham way of things!- 24 replies

Internal Private IP Address Range, Need Advice!
foofighterjim replied to a topic in Network and Classroom Management
In order to run your own address range without causing disruption you need to implement NAT. You LEA may or may not support this, you may have to request a new IP range, I would also suggest getting off the 255.255.255.0 subnet and onto at least 255.255.248.0 to cover for future expansion. You can calculate what subnet would suite here.- 24 replies

I have heard good things about Lightspeed MDM but have no first hand experience unfortunately. If you have ever looked at LearnPads you can make it work on your existing Android devices by following this.
