The last two schools I've worked at have had guest on a different vlan - Ruckus Wi-Fi though, which has a pretty decent guest pass system built in. Radius for BYOD - PITA with the certs, especially on pixels and some motorolas that dont have the option to not validate.

+1 for the ATEM kit. They were actually part of my "blended learning" setup in my old school. POV cams in classrooms with different angles, ATEMS (PC HDMI passed through a channel), multiple mic inputs. Dead simple as you've got 4 big red buttons and label them up. But I've also used the ATEM boxes for livestreaming events, two tidy cameras with HDMI out, one wide angle and one zoom. Monitor port of the ATEM connected to a cat5 HDMI splitter, feeding TVs throughout the hall to show the camera feeds. Livestream to youtube via OBS. Mixing desk mainLR mapped to another mirroed output then Aux into streaming computer from OBS too for livestream

Unless the org making this demand pays for a replacement, it's not getting ripped out. It's as simple as that.

My old school had Three Allen and Heath SQ Desks. Main hall - SQ 7 Recording studio - SQ 7 "portable" - SQ5 in a flightcase with the cutouts. Equip them with Dante cards and you can do some SUPER neat stuff. The Main hall could go back to the recording studio and you can live record from the main hall as though it's an extension of the studio

Last place I worked I did around 50vms in one job start at 7pm, then a backup copy job once that's finished. Current place I work and the setup I've inherited, the VMs are grouped and the start times are staggered. PITA to be honest, i get about 10 email notifications per day about various backups.

Google drive for desktop maps Google drive a "G Drive", go into that and your drive and the team drives you're a member of are there too. Synology with the Google workspace backup works a treat

Where I work (not long started), turns out that commissioned an external company to design a powerapp for this, teachers fill out the powerapp during the admissions interviews and it all filters through, pretty neat.

If they're not calling home, what's the problem? It's good value for money and I'm happy to jump on the conspiracy bandwagon. But out of the box (At their price point) the amount of features you get is astonishing. My preference though is Mobotix cameras, the cost of 1 Mobotix you can get 6-8 Hiks...

In a nutshell what we do is... SQL script to export users from MIS to CSV each night. Powershell script runs early morning to make users if they don't exist SQL script to export all classes and allocation to CSV each night Powershell script to create classes as security group if they don't exist, then add users to said groups AAD sync'd groups and teams etc Run this every night and if anyone leaves a class etc gets readded the following morning.

My vote here lies with an RDS solution.

My old school was international, we used iSAMS. Didn't have any complaints about it at all. Be warned though, they've been bought by IRIS and I suspect that they're going to push their own version...

With a watchguard/lightspeed combination now. Not impressed with it coming from a smoothwall setup school.

I'd go along the lines of... Windows, Linux or Apple Then mention that RM was just a front for management tools which are built into Windows.

Previously I bought a "failover line" a second 1000/1000 line for £600 a month. Ending up turning the LLB stuff on in Smoothwall, worked a treat with two internet connections actually being used rather than one sat there "just in case"

In my last school, I replaced the S14's with S15's just as I left. The Smoothies are pretty solid and everything is under one roof, the newer models have less interfaces but are capable of a much higher throughput. I've come to a school with Watchguard/Lightspeed already in place - It's frustrating having to do things in multiple places rather than one, also found the invoices and the combination was about 10k more than the two S15 Smoothies. I much prefer the workflow on Smoothwall

Jamf Connect in my last place - Worked a treat as long as make sure you the fields are all setup and details match for kerberos to work. You can't set some parts of it up in the console, you have to do it via plists and upload them as a custom payload. SSO works via kerberos and Azure AD Connect as long as pass through is enabled.
