  1. On our previous domain (if i remember) each users home drive was shared. e.g. on "\\server\staff$\test_user" the "test_user" folder would be shared... meaning it could be accessed and also their home drive is mapped to: \\server\test_user Is this how it should be? Currently their home drives are mapped to "\\server\staff$\test_user" instead and there is no share for each home drive? How do you guys do it please? Thanks in advance
  2. Just noticed that all other drives have the correct quota, its just the Home share that it showing the full drive size????? I have shared the users home folder and ammended the mapping from \\server\staff_drives\test_user to \\server\test\user But this would mean sharing every single users home drives? And when we create a new user manually setting up the share each time... Is this how everyone else does this? Are home staff and home drives shared ?
  3. Hi All, Previous we were using the old "Disk Quota" on the whole drive. When a vista or win7 user logs in the see the DISK SIZE and not their QUOTA SIZE displayed. They see`s their mapped drives in My Computer the graphical and written sizes of the drive would appear to be their OWN correct max quota size etc, "500mb" with say 242meg used. With FSRM all our mapped drives appear as the size of the total drive, e.g 1.8tb total with 1.2tb used, the usage shown is everyones usage. instead of the above? Also when the quota is reached, it says "There is not enough space Free Space 600mb, total 1.8tb" Is this correct? surely not? EDIT: This seems to be the problem, but it is supposed to b fixed in vista/win7? http://blogs.technet.com/b/filecab/archive/2006/09/26/458221.aspx
  4. We are soon (hopefully!) launching a wordpress based intranet site that is hosted on one of our local servers. The server is a HP Proliant DL380, 4GB Ram with 3 x 72GB SCSI Drives, these are in RAID5 formatted with one simple volume. It was setup with Ubuntu and currently using port:80 It works perfectly when one user is accessing the site but when 5 or more users access the first default page it grinds to a halt. Can anyone please point in the direction that we should try and follow to find out what could be causing this? Is the server maybe not upto spec? We plan to have 60+ users logging in at once. Thanks in advance
  5. Thanks for the replies... permissions are set so they cannot modify anything in the C drive... But allowing the end users the ablity to snoop around in there, knowing the layouts, knowing the names of EXEs that are used to retrict them, giving any student who try and exploit the systems an edge. Would a bank mind if we were to able to check out the complete design plans for there building/vault/systems? DOS BOX is also correct, we have 2 mapped hidden drives, one an applications share that they can browse. We also have a couple of weakly designed applications that need students to have modify access to certain install folders BUT GOOD NEWS !! I have downloaded the latest version of Magix Music Maker 17 and it has done away with its file manager and now uses the windows file system to load/save! Thanks for the replies.
  6. 70 views .... maybe even a breif heads-up on how you restrict/hide C drive? Thanks in advance
  7. Hi All, Ive been looking at alternatives to "Garage Band" the mac music software.... All three recommended alternatives use their own "File Browsers" and even when a student is logged in, they have the ability to browse up a folder and browse the C drive files. They can also see any hidden folders, or any Mapped network drives that are hidden. 1) Does anyone know a way around this? 2) Have I got permissions setup correctly? Im using GP to restrict and hide the C drive, these are: "Prevent access to drives from My Computer" and "Show only certain drives in My Computer" They cannot edit anything or save to these locations, but within the application they can click "My documents" and then "Up a folder" and then see and browse any users "Doc and Set" folders. Can anyone please help? Im guessing that the applications are loading as a system account and using that to browse the drives? Magix Music Maker MuTools * as you can see from the screenshot, there is no access to "C:" by browsing to it, it is also not in My Computer. But still available in the application
  8. Thanks for the replies. I have added it as a local printer using the IP address. All sorted!! Thanks
  9. Our Cashless system is provided by Cunninghams, they have there own computers all on the workgroup "Cunninghams".. We have a network printer installed in thier office and I am struggling to find a way to install the printer on their office computer.. I can install the printer but obviously only after authenticating myself against the domain. This works fine untill the machine is rebooted. Is there maybe a script that can map the printer on boot? With encrypted credentials? Is there another method that I should be using? con2prt etc? Can anyone please help? Thanks in advance
  10. I dont mean to throw a spanner in the works, but we had the same setup and our county council has told us that we "MUST" use dual authentication for staff accessing eportal. For students and parents to login apparently they dont need dual auth, so we have installed a 2nd install of eportal with tighter security and no access for staff logins. https://parents.{school}.sch.uk
  11. Check that the clock is correct on the server and the workstations Check that the exchange internal certificate hasnt expired
  12. Mate I would definetly give Groupcall a ring, they are VERY good at sorting all this out, have you got the lastest version with the MMC, think its v4. We have group call automatically doing 2 jobs, one for our cashless and again for read/write access to our Facility/eportal data by external sources. Good Luck
  13. This program seems to let students browse any mapped drives or restricted drives and hidden folders. Do you please have a way around this? Thanks in advance
  14. Did you ever find a solution to this? It only seems to run on a DC or on the LOCAL server it is installed to. Any Member server doesnt work. I have been told that the server needs to be "trusted for deligation" but I have done this and still no joy. Im sure that on other projectos I have had to add kerb trust on other member servers (edugeek self service password request) and it worked. Is there anything else that we need to enable to allow the member server to be trusted for authentication?
  15. Is the server that you are running this on a Member Server? The auther has advised that you need to trust the member server for deligation. I have tried this and I still cant login or get automatic login!! When logging in on the server it works like a dream, the logged in users gets logged in atuomatically. When testing from a DC it also works fine. Can anyone please suggest why it wont authenticate on any other server?
  16. I have been looking at these booking systems, Am i correct that the only one that Automatically logs in using LDAP is the Room Booking System ? 23. Our dell servers a DELL Perc 6i raid controller.... When 2 drives are flashing away as failed I find that they are actually ok. When I call DELL to ask why it happens they just tell me that "Sometimes they just drop out of the raid". I have to then re-add them and then all is good. Good luck!
