Hi all, This seems to be working great apart from one small bug here: When students goto "My Computer" then select their N drive (homedrive) and then load a swf file it gets blocked (the path is N:game.swf) ... but If they goto Start then "My Documents", they can sucessfully load the game. This is because the path is "\\nas\student_drives\00a\game.swf" Does anyone please know how to get it to work when they load a game through a \\nas\etc instead of N: OR Does anyone please know how to change the "My Documents" to load up N: ? Currently in AD we have the Documents folder set up as: "Redirect to the users Home Directory" Many thanks in advance

The winlogon notification subscriber took 408 second(s) to handle the notification event (CreateSession). Some of ours are also hanging at the Printer Deployment stage. Are you maybe getting errors like this in the application log? We are getting these, it totals to around 7min of waiting. Someone has suggested disabling IPV6.. will try it now. EDIT: IPV6 diasbled and its still hanging on "'Applying Deployed Printer Connections Policy"....... This time it took 414 sec... Any ideas anyone? Samsung printer drivers here.

At last sorted it !!!!!!!! When the .v2 man profile was created the printers had been installed once, but then removed. When the profile was created it must have still had some links to the printers in the profile..

Does anyone please know where Win7 Stores the start menu? We have start menus for staff redirected from "SERVER\StaffStartMenus". 95% of the time this is working perfectly, but on three occassions now some staff have either: Completely incorrect old start menus, or when a new item is added to the start menu share it not appearing for them. They are getting an outdated start menu from somewhere.. I have managed to fix it by clearing there profiles, but where are these outdated start menus getting stored please? I guess in there ntuser.dat / profiles?????

Solved it, I logged in as the above staff member on another Windows 7 machine, this recreated her .V2 profile, not sure why but with this present she was then able to login on her vista machine... strange

Hmmmm, Any other reg fixes apart from the ProfileList edit ??? I have ONE user that cannot log in to her office computer. I erased her c:/users/username folder and also deleted the reg key that matched her GUID I have also logged in as a test teacher and then deleted as I did with the above staff member and they can sucessfully log in?? Any ideas please?

If you are sat there with a rotating "welcome", maybe you could turn on Verbous Logging, so you can see what it is actually doing instead of the "welcome" ?

Does GP stop the creation of shortcuts to these??? If I remember you need to use "Software Respriction Policies" to stop them creating shortcuts to: cmd.exe, command.com, etc

I was about to post a thread regarding the simular problem.... One of our teacher keeps loading a previously created document. working on it for an hour or so, Saving the document. When he next opens the document it is not saved? Sometimes when he uses "Save As" he then tries to load the document later and it is marked as "read only". I "think" that it is something to do with the "Preview Pane".? when this is disabled he can then save it and load it as normal. Will checkout these other hotfixes though

If you disable this setting or do not configure it, the Active Directory folder appears in the Network Locations folder. This setting is designed to let users search Active Directory but not tempt them to casually browse Active Directory. We have that and "Maximum size of Active Directory searches" set to 0 and Im pretty sure we dont see it.

I have been trying to use Client Side Extensions, and im now getting: user Library - Mono - Samsung ML-2855 Printers - Library (GPP) {6FA98555-06B3-4333-A5C8-DF8FDE6737A3} 0x80070bc4 No printers were found. The handle is invalid I have also now temp enabled students to be able to install and remove printers... Ive logged in as a student and one of the two printers has failed. "Access denied, unable to connect", so i remove and added the printer successfully.... So frustrating!! any ideas?

Thanks for this, I have set the security on the printer to everyone manage printers/ manage documents/ Print. Is that what you mean by the printer object? Could you please let me know what you mean by "Active Directory object used to publish the printer" ? I have just grabbed 3 random student accounts and logged into the same computer, everytime I see both printers, but the first both failed with "Access denied, unable to connect", the second the colour worked and the mono didnt, and the third the mono worked but colour failed. They are all from the same year and in the same groups? Do you think it is a permission problem? when the printer has failed and says "access denied" if i right click and goto "Run as admin" and then try the printer properties i can see all the properties just fine? Thankyou for the reply mate, I dont think this is a spooler problem as sometimes one printer works and the other does. When the next user logs in it maybe the other way around? I will have a look at Client Side Extensions tomorrow. Thanks

Is it many machines? If not you could create a GP to enable the "Remote Registry" service, then with regedit connect to each machine and change the security of the key?

We have been testing 9x Windows 7 machines in our library. We have been having major trouble with the printers. Sometimes they install fine, sometimes only one installs. Sometimes none. We can log off as one test student and then they work fine with that user, then log off and back on with the same user and they not work. They appear that they are installed, as they can be seen in the Printer list, but on close inspection they appear as: Access denied, unable to connect. (see attachment) if I right click on the printer choose "Run As Administrator" and then Properties, I see the printer properties. Can anyone please suggest anything else I can please try? Printers are added via group policy. I have added "everyone" access to the printer security. Sometimes they work sometimes they dont, which makes me think that its not a driver or print server problem. We are using Mandatory Profiles, so I dont think its a profile issue. Please Help !! We had that exact problem, what was happening was the profiles were attempting to be deleted (I think it was a GPO setting) and failing. When the user logged back in it failed to let them use the half deleted profile so created a new one. I will look back through my posts to see how we solved it!

I still get a local copy of the profile on the machine mate.

Ive setup a MAN profile for the test user. a little speed increase which is good. Also Our MAN profile is only 1.7meg.. Could I ask, as its so small am i missing steps that I should have done previously before copying the profile? I just ran Office and a few other applications. As we have desktop and startmenu setup from the server, can i clear both of these in the profile folder? Thanks in advance

Hi all, CURRENTLY: In AD we have the "Profile Path" for all students empty. We have a modified copy of a "Default User" folder in NETLOGON. When a student logs into a computer they havent logged into before they get a copy of this default user from the netlogon folder on the DCs.. This was setup from: How to Create a Base Profile for All Users But it would seem that this method is possibly way outdated. When a student logs in it doesnt take them too long, they see "setting up internet explorer branding" among other popups, etc etc.. If we moved to a mandatory profile method, would this vastly speed up all student logins? Has anyone tried both of the above to compare?? Thanks in advance

Well........ NAS server went down for a day whilst the SAS Module was replaced and guess what... Photocopier can no longer see the NAS server when I browse the network with it.. Problems fixing themselves are great except when they re-occur ! I do not want to reboot the NAS storage server again, can anyone please suggest something I can check to get the server to broadcast itself once more? If I browse the network from my PC I can see plenty of various devices, printers, servers, laptop but cannot see the NAS in the list of devices. any ideas please? restart SMB or a service on NAS somehow?
