As the actual profile is around 7mb, I dont think that it is this "copying" time that is delaying the logins. I think it only takes around 5 secs to copy the profile from server to machine. If you enable verbose logging you will be able to see each GP as they execute. Will look at the debug mode. thanks

Using the above "MAN" profile (thanks CallumCatterall) here are our login times on Windows 7 First Login (profile not on machine) 1min 16sec Second login - 1min 5sec These machines are Atom Acer Revo`s so not the highest spec. The main delays seem to be the "GPP Printer" policy. Might go back to a script

Can anyone please let me know how to resolve this annoying problem!! (See screenshot attached) I have this problem when staff try to manually install a printer, and if using GPP the printer fails to install saying the driver is not available. I have created a group policy (for both user and computer sections), and placed it in the main domain OU It contains the following as adviced for scripts. but we are still getting the warnings. Any advice please? Thanks Will have another look through... We are getting MASSIVE login times now and again, its when they login for the first time. We have no profile set so do you think the system having to create a new profile from scratch each time is causing this? Does a 7meg profile login really quickly ? (quickly would be under 20sec like XP does) Thanks in advance

I don't think I can cope spending any more time working in our library win 7 machines working correctly with mandatory profiles!!! As the profile is created off domain, i don't think there should be any issues using someone else's folder????? Am I wrong? Each time I try I have failed. When I follow the guides students can login for a while then they randomly get a profile error not letting them log in at all! Profiles are not correctly removed (set to delete older than 3 days) they are left with half removed profiles mean they then create a new profile with username.domain then username.domain2 onwards! Would anyone please be as kind to send me a 100% working mandatory profile?? (preferably with the mail bloat removed?) Students currently have nothing in their profile tab meaning they created one each time they log in.. If anyone would be kind enough to share? I can then rule out the creation of the profile! I know this is an old thread, but we also have the problem that office installs via MSI, but after we have to log in to each machine and load any of the office programs or click "open office document" so that it then finishes the install.... It then runs through the "configuring" and doesnt happen everytime when a student runs office. Is there a solution to this that anyone knows of?

Our ICT Teacher would like to carry the iPad around the class and use it to demonstrate and project work etc as teachers do... We already have an iPad2 and have just bought an "Apple TV" as it can mirror the display over wireless, but the problem is that the projector is only xvga with a VGA input. The Apple TV has a HDMI output. Has anyone managed to do this? I have also ordered a HDfury "hdmi to VGA adaptor" but have been reading that some people have been having problems due to the 720i output resolution output of the apple tv not being compatible with the projector! Im also ready stories of apple adding a new protection to the rev 2 fw not allowing protected content playing. Any success stories mirroring the iPad to a VGA projector? Cheers, We are all procurve, with the main switch being the 53XX series. Incase i haven't explained correctly, i would like any school PC/Printer/Laptop to be able to be plugged in anywhere on the network and have everyday network default access. BUT THEN, any guest PC/Laptop that gets plugged in to any of these same network sockets be not connected to the network apart from being able to use the internet. So i was hoping that a WPAD/PAC solution could maybe see that the laptop wasnt maybe on the domain or something, meaning it would get connected to the VLAN and also be issued with an IP and the proxy set to port point to our smoothwall box using port 9000 which we use for guest access to the internet. is this possible?

Thanks Matthew, we only have a few cheap wireless access points around the school. most would be plugging into the network directly. Would i setup the VLAN on the main switch? How would the network know whether these computers are domain pc`s/printers/etc or whether they are guest machines? Does a WPAD or PAC file do this? Thanks in advance

We regularly have guest users come to the school and want to plug in their laptops to purely access the internet. We now also are looking to lease out a room in one of our buildings and they too would like internet access. If there a way that I can provide internet access to these guest users without having to worry about viruses/accessing/browsing our network? They will need to have their proxy setup via a PAC, or if not i can tell them the details to enter themselves? Thanks in advance

Thanks, We have 3 x "APC Smart-UPS 3000RMi 2U", each has a management card but only one has the card with the environmental sensors. Ive not seen a way to monitor other UPSs? are yours made by APC? After an air-con failure i wanted all servers to shutdown on high temp, but was told that I needed these upgraded cards in each of the UPSs.. I will have a play with a script to launch that could shutdown them all...

Ours are all setup to use a TCP/IP port.. we do also use Papercut/Print Limit Pro by the way????? Do you think this is a papercut issue? There is an awesome offer on with these printers on ebuyer at the moment, £129 delivered with £80 cashback... Good printer for £49!!!

All our 8 servers now have redundant power supplies. We have 3 x large rack mount UPS`s in-case of a power outage. Im a little confused to the best set-up, should BOTH PSU on the one server go to the same UPS or maybe a different UPS? This will make it difficult setting a shut down during a powercut as levels drop because different UPSs will have different loads and thus drain quicker/slower than the other 2? What is the suggested setup with dual PSU and APS units please? Thanks in advance

Hi all, Just having a tidy up behind our server rack and have a question that I have always wondered about... Our DC`s among other servers have 2 network sockets. Originally they were both connected up to the main switch with 1gbit connections... They "were" assigned different IP addresses but if I remember there was always a warning about conflicting IPs and we ended up just running one 1gbit connection to each server. Our mail server if i remember has 5 NICs !!!! ? At one point I teamed them all up but then went back to just one... What is correct practise here please? What do you guys do? Thanks in advance

Removed Sophos from the client and the print server. This still happens, so thats sophos/antivirus ruled out. We get it 100% of the time. If we could just get rid of the pop up completely I would be happy.

It does this also when I try to print from our print server, so I don't think its the client. Our print server is a 2008 virtual server. Yes very annoying!!
