I know this is an old thread, but for anyone else browsing, greenfoot.org is a really good site/program for teaching and learning Java. It's all "real" Java coding, but in a friendly (and slightly more fun) way.

It's because they couldn't do everything they wanted to be able to do with the Start Menu, so they've had to completely rewrite it in a different language from scratch, which is why it seems back to basic in this build, including the lack of resizing etc. It should be sorted by next build though, with some of the new features in

[android tablet] Managing Android devices?
Valyyn replied to Valyyn's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Thank you guys, I'm now talking to someone at Learnpad after your recommendations They do look a lot nicer and easier! Edit: Ah that's a shame, they don't offer demo units any more apparently Will still see about arranging a demonstration.- 23 replies

[android tablet] Managing Android devices?
Valyyn replied to Valyyn's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Roberto: D'oh, looks like you're right about the supported devices. That's annoying. Yeah, I guess plan B is going to be having a look at something like Meraki then! Thank you Arthur: Thank you. Yeah, we've been using Google drive/mail etc as a school for a few years, so we're set up on that. It does look like only the two supported tablets can sign up as an "EDU domain" though, which is a bit rubbish- 23 replies

Our school are beginning to look at tablets, and the current popular choice is the Hudl 2. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to manage these though, in terms of apps etc (if I even can!). I found this page: https://play.google.com/edu/landing but when I sign in, it tells me "Your school doesn't have any Google-managed devices." and to "see the Help Center for more information on enabling access." Clicking the Help Centre link tells me to "Go to Google Play for Education at play.google.com/edu.", which is the page I came from. It does then say to change your Company Profile in the Admin console to Primary/Secondary Education if you have problems, but we're already set to that. After more Googling, I found this page: https://www.google.com/intl/en_uk/edu/play/ which is specifically for the UK. Here it tells me "You must have Chromebooks or Android tablets with a management license. The management license is your key to unlocking the Google Play for Education store." but no information on how to get a management license and my searching is failing me! Finally, that page does say "Already have Chromebooks or Android tablets? Find out how to activate Google Play for Education for your school.", but that link just takes me back to the very first play.google.com/edu page! I feel like I'm going in circles. Have any other schools got managed Android tablets working that could offer any advice? I did fill out the inquiries form a week and a bit ago, but heard nothing back yet. Edit: I've tried installing the Android Device Enrollment app on a tablet too, but when I sign in with my Google Admin account, it tells me "The account you're using is not part of a registered Google EDU domain or is configured incorrectly in the Google Admin console. Visit play.google.com/edu for more infortmation"

Another one here - we're debating looking at Hudls and I've been asked to look in to how to manage and lock them down etc.

Windows Phone 10
Valyyn replied to DJ-1701's topic in Windows Phone Owners Club's Windows Phone Owners Club Topics
Dev preview here too, with a Lumia 920. Fingers crossed it's new enough to get in on the Windows 10 beta goodness, although I already know I won't be able to have the "Hey Cortana!" working, which makes me sad (Edit for more info in case anyone's interested, only the Lumias 930, 1520 and Icon will be able to have Hey Cortana out of the current phones, as it relies on some tech that only exists in the new Snapdragon processors they use: "Hey Cortana" Not Coming to All Lumias? Only >1GB SensorCore Enabled? (1520, 930/Icon) - Geek on Gadgets : Geek on Gadgets) -
Haha yeah. They had someone watching football though!

So did anyone see this during the Windows 10 conference tonight? That came completely out of the blue and is amazing! Videos and such here: Microsoft announces Windows Holographic with HoloLens headset | The Verge The videos are definitely worth a watch, this is awesome! Edit: Wasn't sure whether this was best in Blue Skies or here, but figured it is to do with Windows 10! Mods feel free to move if you want though

Just a thought - the website you're developing, is it on the intranet or external? IE defaults to compatibility mode for intranet sites for some reason: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/web-development/146602-modify-ie11-user-agent.html#post1255361 If it is this, then I believe you should be able to do the same via a GPO.

I had almost exactly the same issue building our site at first, odds are you've got the same problem - IE forces intranet sites into Compatibility mode by default. To turn it off, go to Settings -> Compatibility View Settings, then at the bottom, untick "Display intranet sites in Compatibility View".
-
Our solution is in place now - one of my colleagues set up an Office 2013 GPO which disables the Smart add-in across the domain. I'll ask him to pop on and put more info if you want! We've not had any complaints since (and it's been a few days now), so looking good.

Just wanted to say thank you - had the exact same issue and this was a massive help - it was a really awkward thing to be searching for!

I've ended up publishing Pyscripter (pyscripter - An open-source Python Integrated Development Environment (IDE) - Google Project Hosting) as a RemoteApp from a 2012R2 server which has the firewall blocking everything but port 3389 (for the remote connection). With RemoteApp it behaves the same as if it was running on their PC, but they cannot do anything to affect that machine or anything on the network (such as trying a DDOS python script). I briefly played with an Ubuntu server so they could practice using command line and *nix, but I couldn't get it to play nice with their fileshares, which was a pain and I ran out of time with it in the end so had to give it up. Still in the back of my mind to try again sometime though! Edit: Initially, I did create a basic VM using VirtualBox. I then had them using it in "headless" mode, so they get no VM GUi. Downsides there were a) they had to turn on their PC, login, wait, fire up the VM and wait for that windows to start before they could do anything, b) it did feel a bit clunky having the two start menus and going back and forth between the VM and the live machine and c) it took up quite a lot of space, which is at a premium as all our newer PC suites have 128GB SSDs in them. Edit again: With the VM, I didn't need to map their home areas - using VirtualBox Additions, it automatically added all the physical PC's drives to the VM, including their network shares.

I'm looking for the exact same thing at the moment, but the only thing I can find seems to be from Roland themselves who say it has no drivers later than XP! I've just put together an XP machine with the latest drivers (Drivers, Firmware & Manuals) but cannot get it to work as of yet

I just discovered the free version of Serif Movie plus a couple of weeks ago - Free Movie Editing Software - MoviePlus Starter Edition from Serif Looks pretty good and I'm going to be including it on the build this summer
-
Which parameters are you using with xcopy? It shouldn't do this unless you've got a /N in there somewhere. If you haven't, then I'm not sure... might be worth trying robocopy or XXCOPY, A Versatile File Management Utility --- Boldly Extended Xcopy instead, maybe?
-
I started off with a Virtualbox VM on each machine, but it felt pretty clunky and slow, to be honest. They're now using PyScripter as a RemoteApp from a 2012R2 server that has it's firewall set to block python and pyscripter and so far it seems to be working well!
-
This might be a silly question, but is exactly the problem I had yesterday... When you say you added the code for R2, did you just add it into the VAMT tool? That's what I did and it doesn't work. You have to actually replace the KMS server itselfs key with the 2012 R2 one, using slmgr.vbs -ipk followed by slmgr.vbs -ato That didn't seem intuitive to me because our KMS is 2008 R2 so it seemed odd telling it to use the 2012 R2 key, but that sorted it for me!

Just gave this a test out of interest and Impero still works normally in Safe Mode with Networking
-
It comes with a load of education-related programs pre-installed basically - it's meant to be a quick way of getting them out there.

Yeah, got to second Movie Maker to be honest!
