We've recently switched our internet provider to RM. They seem pretty good on the whole, however we're having no luck at all getting their RADIUS to work with our WiFi for BYOD. Does anyone here have RADIUS working with RM SafetyNet? The problem I get is our RADIUS server just reports "The remote RADIUS server did not respond." when trying to pass accounting info to their RADIUS. Support has been less than helpful (they actually closed my last ticket about it with the message "I have limited knowledge on AD and Radius server as I am not an expert on windows. Hence we are closing this call." if you can believe that!), so I'm hoping someone here might have it working that I could compare settings with to check if it's something at our end or theirs.

Thanks for this, I was going crazy wondering what I'd done wrong when it used to work just fine before. Glad I did a simulated sync first and spotted it was about to delete a bunch of groups! On 4.6.1 too. Fingers crossed for a patch soon?

Yeah, that's basically what we've always done in the past. From what the ICO are saying though, doing that now places us in breach of the GDPR :/

Just to follow up on this, I've just spoken with the ICO Small Business helpline about this same situation. Their answer was that no staff should have any access to school data or systems until the start date on their contract under GDPR and Data Protection legislation. He did say that there may be some other, specific to schools legislation which would override and allow it, but that's not his area, so couldn't advise on it. But failing that, from a strictly ICO/GDPR point of view, they say no access allowed before start date, even with a contract and AUP signed in advance. Interesting! Only thing to be careful of - if management have for some reason decided to remove all clocks, do you really want to undo whatever it is they're trying to do by putting analogue clocks on all the PCs?

Why not add your domain to your Microsoft tenancy anyway? That way you can also get users syncing automatically and it won't affect your Google things. For example, here our staff use their normal school email address and password to log in to both Google and Microsoft things. As long as you don't change your MX DNS records, the two will happily live side-by-side with no impact on each other. You can then set up Azure AD Connect to sync your users and passwords to Microsoft, so you don't need to worry about manually importing them and sending passwords etc. You can also very easily script in adding their Office 365 download permissions as part of user creation in future.

It's getting on a bit now (and has been discontinued), but Serif MoviePlus X6 still works quite well and lets you do some Chroma Key work. No idea how good/bad it does it compared to things like Premier Pro though, but it is cheaper!

I delegate them password change permissions on the student OU then I have Password Control sitting in the root of our staff share. It does let them type in anyone's name/username and look them up, but it only lets them change the password for the students.

Nah I agree now I know what they are meant for! I think whoever put them up originally (well before my time) figured that it would work and it kinda does! I might have a look for something more "proper" for storing/hanging cables on though.

Similar to you I think, we've got the admin. as a seperate child domain as a legacy thing, originally for security I believe, but now you've said it you have got me wondering if we really need it these days or if we do just go with the one domain. Would make it easiest to manage, plus less DCs and trusts to worry about...

Hi all, We currently have a .local domain. As we're making loads of other changes this summer, we've decided to start afresh with a new domain following the [schoolname].co.uk format. At the moment, we have all the students and teachers on [schoolname].local, then our admin team and servers on admin.[schoolname].local. Under the new setup, we're thinking of having school.[schoolname].co.uk and admin.[schoolname].co.uk. We're just commissioning the first DC and I'm not sure what I should put in as the forest. I think I should have this DC as the [schoolname].co.uk forest, then have two DCs each for school.[schoolname].co.uk and admin.[schoolname].co.uk under it in the same forest, so five DCs in total. Is this correct? (Going from "Dedicated forest root domain" here: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc726016.aspx Or should I just have two DCs for school.[schoolname].co.uk and two for admin.[schoolname].co.uk and set up a trust between them? Any advice would be appreciated Thank you!

At a guess from the error, do you access the internet through a proxy? I think the MineCraft launcher has issues with proxies.

Well that's weird - it's working today! Exact same code that we'd saved and everything... so clearly we were doing something wrong the other day, but at least it's working now
