Yeah, I had one crocodile clip on the short leg of the LED to ground and a croc clip from the longer leg to Pin 0. Thanks though! Ah, that's good to know, thank you! I actually saw your post yesterday, but our LEA block vine so couldn't see it. Am at home today though and just watched them - very cool! No idea why we can't get our LEDs lighting up now though... weird. Maybe we'll try one of the other boards, just on the (very slim) chance we have a dud.

Beat me to it - our CS teacher just got an email from them that says:
-
Our teacher pack arrived today too (with three inside, plus three usb connectors). I can't get the PINS 0 1 or 2 to work though - every tutorial I've seen (and tried!) on line with them all use a battery pack... do they not work with just a USB for power, does anyone know? Has anyone got their Pins working?

This is our student one. When we make a new student, we set their mail field to their gmail email address. The below script goes through every user in the OU specified (including sub-OUs) and: Changes the extendedAttribute1 to be their email address Changes extendedAttribute2 to their first name $path = "[PATH_TO_LOG_FILE]\students.log" $users = get-aduser -searchbase 'OU=Students,OU=[OU],DC=[domain_controller],DC=local' -filter * $LogString = 'Starting full sync at {0} on {1}'-f (Get-Date).ToString("hh:mm:ss"),(Get-Date).ToString("dd/MM/yyyy") add-content -Path $path -Value $LogString -Force $LogString = '---------------------------------------------------------------' add-content -Path $path -Value $LogString -Force foreach ($user in $users){ $username = get-aduser $user.samaccountname -prop name|select -expand name $givenname = get-aduser $user.samaccountname -prop givenname|select -expand givenname $mail = get-aduser $user.samaccountname -prop mail|select mail if($mail -match "@[Gmail_domain].com"){ $newAttribute1 = get-aduser $user.samaccountname -prop mail|select -expand mail $LogString = 'Name:'+$username add-content -Path $path -Value $LogString -Force $LogString = 'Current email:'+ $newAttribute1 add-content -Path $path -Value $LogString -Force Set-ADUser -Identity $user.samaccountname -replace @{"extensionattribute1"="$newAttribute1"} $extensionAttribute1 = get-aduser $user.samaccountname -prop extensionAttribute1|select -expand extensionAttribute1 $LogString = 'New extensionAttribute1:'+$extensionAttribute1 add-content -Path $path -Value $LogString -Force $LogString = '---------------------------------------------------------------' add-content -Path $path -Value $LogString -Force } Set-ADUser -Identity $user.samaccountname -replace @{"extensionattribute2"="$givenname"} } $LogString = 'Finished sync at {0} on {1}'-f (Get-Date).ToString("hh:mm:ss"),(Get-Date).ToString("dd/MM/yyyy") add-content -Path $path -Value $LogString -Force $LogString = '' add-content -Path $path -Value $LogString -Force $LogString = '***********************************************************************************************************************' add-content -Path $path -Value $LogString -Force For the staff one, the first name/extendedAttribute2 line is replaced with: Set-ADUser -Identity $user.samaccountname -replace @{"extensionattribute2"="$givenname".substring(0,1)} which just takes the first letter of their first name. Actually, I'll post the whole staff ps1 file, as it's got one other difference - staff emails are on our Exchange server, so their mail attribute has a different domain to our Google domain. This script takes their mail address, switches the domain to the google domain and then saves it to extendedAttribute1: $path = "[PATH_TO_LOG_FILE]\staff.log" $users = get-aduser -searchbase 'OU=Staff,OU=[OU],DC=[domain_controller],DC=local' -filter * $LogString = 'Starting full sync at {0} on {1}'-f (Get-Date).ToString("hh:mm:ss"),(Get-Date).ToString("dd/MM/yyyy") add-content -Path $path -Value $LogString -Force $LogString = '---------------------------------------------------------------' add-content -Path $path -Value $LogString -Force foreach ($user in $users){ $username = get-aduser $user.samaccountname -prop name|select -expand name $givenname = get-aduser $user.samaccountname -prop givenname|select -expand givenname $mail = get-aduser $user.samaccountname -prop mail|select mail if($mail -match "@[email_domain].co.uk"){ $mailusername = get-aduser $user.samaccountname -prop mail|select -expand mail $newAttribute1 = $mailusername -Replace "@[email_domain].co.uk","@[Gmail_domain].com" $LogString = 'Name:'+$username add-content -Path $path -Value $LogString -Force $LogString = 'Current email:'+ $mailusername add-content -Path $path -Value $LogString -Force Set-ADUser -Identity $user.samaccountname -replace @{"extensionattribute1"=$newAttribute1} $extensionAttribute1 = get-aduser $user.samaccountname -prop extensionAttribute1|select -expand extensionAttribute1 $LogString = 'New extensionAttribute1:'+$extensionAttribute1 add-content -Path $path -Value $LogString -Force $LogString = '---------------------------------------------------------------' add-content -Path $path -Value $LogString -Force } Set-ADUser -Identity $user.samaccountname -replace @{"extensionattribute2"="$givenname".substring(0,1)} } $LogString = 'Finished sync at {0} on {1}'-f (Get-Date).ToString("hh:mm:ss"),(Get-Date).ToString("dd/MM/yyyy") add-content -Path $path -Value $LogString -Force $LogString = '' add-content -Path $path -Value $LogString -Force $LogString = '***********************************************************************************************************************' add-content -Path $path -Value $LogString -Force

No worries! If you want the PS scripts to help or anything, just shout
-
If it helps, we use extendedAttribute2 for the first name in GADS, which is set to the actual firstname for students but the first letter of the firstname for staff. (extendedAttribute1 is the "mail" value for GADS). I run a PS script when we add a new user which sets up the values for us before we GADS sync (although if it's just one new user, doing it manually is probably quicker).

I've been in a school for about 4 years now, but before that I worked for Information Services at a Uni for about 4 years in various IT roles (from front-line support on the help desk and answering calls/emails, to time with the networking team running cables and such, to 2nd/3rd tier Desktop Services support, where we'd get sent out for the more technical issues that the help desk logged). At the uni, I was part of a big team - my local team varied from three of us to eight in my various roles and there were probably about fifty people in total across various roles and functions. The pros were that there were good systems in place and training was very easy to come by and there was almost guaranteed to be an expert a call away to help with any issues you got stuck on. At the school, even though I'm in a team of four here, there is a lot less support - I've not had any training since being here... but then I have had to learn a lot off my own back and do my own research and experimenting, which is good for me too. On the other hand, the uni had more of "that's not your job, that falls under X's remit"*, whereas in the school I am basically free to design or develop anything I want, as long as I can justify the time spent! (*Not complaining about this - it's completely understandable! With that many people, you have to be clear or there's going to be confusion and mess and no clear lines as to who is responsible for what etc).

Oh... my... God... Thank you for this - MixCloud is amazing! We wanted a way to be able to host my partner's shows as an on-demand thing, but couldn't afford the licencing, but MixCloud is perfect - never came across it in all our searching. Have double-checked as well and they do indeed cover PPL and PRS licencing, amazing
-
My partner does a weekly radio show for a station at the moment, but before that she was looking in to doing her own shows independently, so we spent a bit of time looking into licensing. See if this helps: https://www.prsformusic.com/aboutus/FAQs/licensingmusicfaqs/Pages/default.aspx#3 So PPL does sound recordings. If you were just doing original covers, I think it'd be hazy as to whether or not you need PPL, but if you're doing bought music too, then I'd say you definitely do. I believe you need PRS either way. They do have a helpline for advice etc though: https://www.prsformusic.com/aboutus/contact_us/Pages/ContactsforCustomers.aspx

Your default Windows 10 printer can now be the last printer you used
Valyyn replied to dblight's topic in Windows 10
It is optional though - you can change it back to the old way of doing things too. I agree it would be a bit of a pain in enterprise/schools though! -
The good news is that yes you can You need to have a Google Education account though (which is free). But then you can basically just register the Hudls by installing https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.enterprise.dmagent&hl=en_GB and you can control set policies by logging in to your admin.google.com account, going to Devices and then Mobile on the left. On the device itself, we also had our own account as the "admin" user (with a password) and created a normal user account for the staff to use, which means we can restrict what apps the user sees and/or can install.

Google pass all the requirements for UK and EU government requirements in regards to data protection etc https://support.google.com/work/answer/6056694 In fact a lot of the UK government now use Google Docs for data storage. I can't find the exact sheet but at a conference last year, they showed a checklist of all the requirements and evidence for each section that Google met it. Most of the info is covered under that link above though I believe

I would be interested in this too. Our staff have filestore area, but I would love their filestore (or at least a folder within it) to sync with it and was debating installing the app like this but was wondering the same thing.

I left EE and would never go back, was with them for five years and their customer service was awful When my contract finished, I unlocked my phone and went to O2 PAYG and haven't looked back! I'm on the £20/month big bundle, which is 1500 minutes, 4000 texts, 2GB data and 4G. For £25/month they have 3000 mins, 4000 texts and 4GB data with 4G. It does seem a bit more like a very cheap contract than a true PAYG, but as long as I top up to £20 credit at the start of the month, I'm set! Edit: Link to the PAYG tariffs: http://www.o2.co.uk/tariffs/payandgo

Windows Phone 10
Valyyn replied to DJ-1701's topic in Windows Phone Owners Club's Windows Phone Owners Club Topics
Nope, no date yet To be honest, I actually had to roll back to 8 a few months ago. 10 was waaay too slow and kept freezing on my phone. I know it's probably more stable by now, but I'm reluctant to go back to the TP. Think I'll stick with 8 until the actual launch now. -
Google Chrome ending support for Modal Pop-Ups (Outlook Web App)
Valyyn replied to Yeo695's topic in General Chat
This is the first I've heard of this issue (gave me a panic when I saw the title before I saw the date). We don't have any issues with OWA (on Exchange 2010) using Chrome here, nor have we done, so I'm a bit confused. Does this only apply to older versions of OWA maybe? Edit: Just found this: So basically, having a patched 2010 or later server should resolve any issues with it! -
Oh my God. You are amazing. Where is the "Thank this post 1000 times" button? Seriously, it's been bugging me for months not having it working and this worked first time! Thanks

School's out on Wednesday for us, so we get a nice half day Right back in Thursday though to crack on with summer jobs - going to be a busy one this year!
-
D'oh, yeah then, there's no iso for that, so I'm stuck here on 10240 until they release the isos on (or around) launch day. At least I know it should hopefully work after then though
-
Ah maybe. Problem is, I'm stuck on the one before that (the last one they released an .iso for - 10162 )

I've got Windows 10 installed at home and at school. Loving it in both, but in school I cannot get it to update and I'm out of ideas. Just sits there saying "Downloading updates 0%". Have even tried a fresh install from an older version, but no joy I'm guessing it must be a proxy issue, but our Smoothwall seems to be set up OK and the council said they're definitely not blocking anything on theirs. Bit frustrating

Does this help at all? https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/suites-help.html (I know that says CS6, but should be the same). So at a guess (don't know what the prices are like, but that should help), I'd say Desktop Apps includes all Adobe apps and the Design and Web Premium (which we have CS6 of here) only includes the apps shown on that link: Edit: Have you seen this? http://www.adobe.com/sea/volume-licensing/education/enterprise-agreement.html It might work out better for you and includes basically everything.

......you're a genius, that's awesome. Thank you!

Basically, I believe you have to force Google SafeSearch to be on - it and youtube safety mode are (unfortunately*) synonymous - if one is on, the other is too. (*Unfortunately because we'd like to have safety mode disabled for teachers - it blocks lots of videos that should be fine, but we'd have to disable safesearch too, which we don't want to do ) Ours is set on our web filter (Smoothwall) and I believe Impero can also set it. Otherwise, for Chrome this is easy, you can use the Chrome GPOs (https://support.google.com/chrome/a/answer/187202?hl=en&ref_topic=2936229), but that will only affect Chrome, not IE or anything else. You can also use Option 3 here: https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/186669?hl=en Basically: I guess that should do the youtube safety mode too (as no one seems to have been able to set one without the other, as mentioned above), but I've not tested it in all honesty. Edited to remove a bunch of incorrect stuff that I have just learned from halbaradkenafin, below.

And I now have the same on my triple monitor, thank you, good call
