Pretty much what Michael said! Here we have printers on a 172.16.2.x range, with each printer set with a static IP, then a 172.16.0.x range for static IPs for servers and then the DHCP range set to 172.16.7.x to 172.16.10.x for PCs to pick up, if that's any help!

Yup, Tom's right - it's hooked up to my PC and I've been playing with it under various guises... using it to make any surface interactive, testing various educational kinect games (especially maths ones) etc. It's an xbox kinect, not a PC one though, so it is a bit more restricted. I brought it in from home, but I'm hoping that if it shows potential I'll be allowed to purchase a PC one for further work Back to the wall though, I definitely need to add a Windows 8 one. Also, weirdly I couldn't find any high quality Win7 boot screen shots, so it's a bit blurry! And yes, I am a fan of XKCD among others (No Dilbert yet though - only just started reading them ) -

Haha sure, want me to find the originals or just interested in photos of them on the wall? -
That's strange... so that's when you type in deviantart.com in the address bar and hit enter? From googling scorecardresearch.com, it sounds like it's a marketing redirector thing that's installed with some bits of software, so it could be redirecting something maybe? One you get to deviantart, is the URL in the address bar correct, or does it have other things there too? I'm not really sure with this one to be honest, so am reaching a bit!

Thank you for that - one for the wall http://i.imgur.com/q3yFzK3l.jpg -
Damn. Ok, for a spot of troubleshooting, try this: Try going to DeviantArt on a PC that it should be blocked on, and note that PC's IP address. On Smoothwall, goto Logs and reports -> Logs -> Web filter Under Source IP, enter thc PC's IP address and change the start time to suit It should list your connection to DeviantArt there along with what policy rules it falls under. Might help to figure out what's going on.

Yeah, as FN-GM says, it's the default user profile picture, so if no one is logged in (i.e. you're on the logon screen) then it is a blank square and there isn't anyway to change that unfortunately. (Even just the option to hide it would be nice!)

Two possibilities I can think of: 1) Are they using https and your Smoothie isn't set up for https? 2) Is Deviantart in your allow list? (I've done this before - put something in the block list and been cursing when it doesn't block, only to find someone had put it in the allow list the week before!)

I had the same problem here - I think it was having problems working with the proxy for some reason. Unfortunately, from my searching it looks like the only alternative is to use the cmd with the Windows 8 disc or ISO. If you don't have the disc or ISO anywhere, I think you might be out of luck :/

I've not done this before, but here's what I did. Remote into server, open up WSUS. Click on the root of the Updates branch, then in the Actions pane on the far right, click "Import Updates..." which takes you to the catalog site. On the site, I searched for "KB2775511", then clicked Add for the ones I wanted (just the Windows 7 one, in my case). Then click "View basket" at the top and click "Import" They then downloaded and imported straight into WSUS

At least it's not just me that's hungry after going to that site. I think Rad totally works in the viral marketing team of Greggs... well played

That's a shame - txt collector used to be really good. That code I put in above should iterate through every .txt file in the folder and "type" the contents into the combined.txt file, so you wouldn't need to type out the filenames. (It will do every txt file in that folder though!) I don't think it does line breaks though, so you will probably end up with a bit of: File 1 starts here File 1 contents File 1 ends hereFile 2 starts here File 2 contents File 2 ends hereFile 3 starts here so not 100% ideal :/
-
Working OK here on IE10 on Windows 8 and IE9 on Windows 7.
-
I used this one years ago: Text file merging tool - TXTcollector, freeware! which I remember being pretty good, and does more than just .txt files Otherwise, you could probably get away with a .bat file, something like: for %f in (*.txt) do type %f >> combined.txt

Yes, Greenfoot is awesome You should be OK with Python to be honest - as tmcd35 says, it's generally interpreted and will just run through the interpreter - the only time it'd need an .exe is if you specifically used something like py2exe to create one, which lets you run your script on a PC that doesn't have python installed. Basically, if you're installing Python on all the PCs, then you shouldn't have to worry about exes Edit - just saw your next post! I think your best bet with VB would be something like I suggested above - but maybe make sure to warn them that the directories will be monitored and anyone putting downloaded games in there will be in trouble! (Whether or not you actually do monitor it is another matter though )
-
I'm guessing you're going to be running VB with them? I've been playing around with various things at the moment - one idea I was toying with was a path rule that lets them run .exes from a specified folder on their drive, eg. H:\Coding\ Alternatively, are there any other languages they can do? There're a couple of good things around that mean they wouldn't have to run self-made exes - we're currently experimenting with Greenfoot (java) and Kodu/Scratch for those new-to-programming.

Would this be any good as an alternative? Open Dyslexic font coupled with: Using GPOs to change default font in Office 2010/2013 http://opendyslexic.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/opendyslexicglyphs.png

Hapus Dydd Gŵyl Dewi! As I'm now working in a school in South England, I took the opportunity to set the school wallpaper to this for the day http://i.imgur.com/lXDUwgTl.jpg

This is what we do for staff, so Joe Bloggs would be jbl. If that's taken, we take letters one and three of their surname instead of one and two, so jbo in this case. Students are year of entry_firstinitialSurname, so a Joey JoeJoe in yr 7 would be 12_jjoejoe Edit - whoops and this thread was from September last year

Just wanted to pop in to add something - I had a sneak preview of some of the new Smoothwall UI at BETT and I was quite impressed! The log viewer can show live updates, as well as allowing you to pause it and show certain date/time ranges. It also lets you filter, sort and (I think) change the columns, which also apply when you unpause it, so you can very easily have the live logs only showing up entries that match attemps to get to edugeek.net or something. It's still a work in progress, but is looking good

Would this work? Set a scheduled task to run in 6 months (as you said) and give it a .bat with the following: net localgroup users "domain users" /delete net localgroup users "authenticated users" /delete In theory, I think this should stop non-admin from being able to logon, as they're no longer in the users group. Admins should still be able to log on as they're in the Administrators group. Might be worth a test anyway!
-
Yeah, if you use the /boot argument, that will do it, e.g.: gpupdate /force /boot
-
As I understand it (though I would love it if someone tells me otherwise!) the mandatory profile is currently the only way to do this, which is obviously a bit of a pain. Maybe MS will release something down the line that lets us control it a bit better though!

Pardon? Who's talking?
