Jaan replied to Jaan's topic in Windows 11
I struggling to pin to the taskbar for some reason. i don't seem to have anything set in a GPO that would prevent this. It's fine in windows 10. -
How you guys finding the AMDs over Intel? From both day to day and cost standpoint..... i'm a AMD user at home, #TEAMred .... But always used intel professionally for "compatibility"

Yeah i'd referenced that. Must be missing something. I've tried both computer and user side of the GPO with no luck. .xml is accessible, so must be my .xml. Anything look wrong here?; xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/Start/2014/LayoutModification" xmlns:defaultlayout="http://schemas.microsoft.com/Start/2014/FullDefaultLayout" xmlns:start="http://schemas.microsoft.com/Start/2014/StartLayout" xmlns:taskbar="http://schemas.microsoft.com/Start/2014/TaskbarLayout" Version="1"> EDIT: and if by magic... it just started working! go figure..... however the file explorr pin isn't there EDIT2: i had a error in the path. all sorted now using: xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/Start/2014/LayoutModification" xmlns:defaultlayout="http://schemas.microsoft.com/Start/2014/FullDefaultLayout" xmlns:start="http://schemas.microsoft.com/Start/2014/StartLayout" xmlns:taskbar="http://schemas.microsoft.com/Start/2014/TaskbarLayout" Version="1"> -

Windows 11 Gpo settings and REG settings that might be useful
Jaan replied to Jaan's topic in Windows 11
I've managed to remove "nearby sharing" with the below: Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > System\Group Policy Disable Continue experiences on this device another option is to remove this area altogether, but you'll need to add access to the "settings" (if you hide them) page to allow the controlling of volume. remove all quick settings; user Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > Start menu and taskbar Remove quick settings add sound to settings: user Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > control panel > settings page visibility. add; sound;sound-devices -

Anybody know if its possible to remove the "tiles" from the "quick settings" area? I can hide this area totally..... but then i can't adjust volume settings from here...... i've had to add access to "sounds" in settings to perform volume/audio task. Whilst this does work, its very different from what people are used too and might cause "issues". -

Windows 11 LTSC I was unable to find s GPO to remove "Network" from File explorer, so used this (feel free to tell me i looked in the wrong place) [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\CLSID\{F02C1A0D-BE21-4350-88B0-7367FC96EF3C}] "System.IsPinnedToNameSpaceTree"=dword:00000000 -
Hi all, I'm activity playing with Windows 11 now (LTSC specifically) Don't want to start a debate about why you should or shouldn't use LTSC. So i thought i'd post anything i've had to tinker with or poke with a stick it get the desired results. If anybody else has anything to contribute, feel free. This can be for any version of Windows 11.

[24h2 / lts 2024] Windows 11, version 24H2: What’s new for IT pros
Jaan replied to 6Foot2's topic in Windows 11
Awesome we have access to this also. Is 24h2 the LTSC version or is the LTSC version seperate to this? Just we don't have the LTSC version listed in Volume Licensing so wasn't sure if is it in fact the same thing. -
Nothing to do with this is it? https://workspaceupdates.googleblog.com/2023/09/winding-down-google-sync-and-less-secure-apps-support.html

Hi all, We're having an issue with Impero content keeper. and i have a support ticket booked with them. Long story short in order for it to work, users are having to click on the APP in ChromeOS for it to load and work correctly, instead of it starting on its own. So a quick fix would be to get ChromeOS to auto launch app X at login. it's been proposed by an external cyber security expert, that we can just "run a startup script to launch it". I'll be honest, i thought ChromeOS was a closed OS and you couldn't mess around unless it was in developer mode, which is a big no no for enrolled chromebooks in education. Can this be done in the Google admin panel? i can't seem to find anything. it's not kiosk mode im after. Anybody got any thoughts? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Looking on their website Education Pro isn't listed anymore.... something called Backdrop.... news to me lol We're having issues with Imperos' Contentkeeper and Education Pro. Infact i have a remote session with them today. Looks like they have been bought-out or in a merger as they are called "Ativion" now..... hopefully they wont tombstone all the stuff we bought into a year ago for 3 years!

Same here. We've used AB tutor, Impero and netsupport. Currently using Impero but prefered ab tutor..... but not a fan of the new "cloud" version at the mo.

Ubuntu physical Machine to Virtual for Hyper-V Possible?
Jaan replied to Jaan's topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
didn't even think of that! good shout -
Hi all, I would like to convert a physical instance of ubuntu (running on a laptop) to a virtual machine to run on Hyper-V. On a windows based machine i would just use disktovhd which would give me a virtual disk i could upload and import into hyper-v. I'm a little out of my depth with linux if i'm honest. We have a seperate FOG instance running ubuntu also, so not totally new to it all...... my instance has a gui also. My question i guess is, what do you linux guys use on ubuntu (pref with a gui) what would allow me to create a vhd of my ubuntu machine. Cheers
