those sound like nice solutions but I was really thinking something only a real nerd could love like cluster them and turn it into a chess playing machine. Funny enough I do run BIONIC across the school already for the world community grid to use an idle processor on the school's desktop machines (quite high in the rankings now) and could do that for a while to boost our score. Bitcoin mining just does nothing on CPU's and doubt I could slip through ATI cards into my budget. I am trying to avoid using them for school work again as I don't intend to keep the warranty's going on them so cant have staff get used to the resource. If anyone knows of such a chess program I can run or something equally as nerdy, please shout.

Im about to replace the school servers, leaving me with 4 lots of dual quad core xeons with 32GB each so my challenge / question is this... What stupidly nerdy project could I use them for? There must be something stupid I can put them to do?

Its the EU and yes you are right, I wouldn't go keeping any confidential information on the Google drive for this reason. I hear things are in the works at cloud companies to allow you to choose where your data is held but until then you will want to keep it safe.

Hello all, I have a piece of software I want to host in school and have available for users from home. Can someone tell me in simple terms what I need to do please? I have looked at Xenapp and the Microsoft versions and after installing it on servers and playing, give up and just want to pay someone to do it. All help is appreciated and to be honest, if someone has a kick ass guide they can point me too, I would be sooooo happy. Im fed up hitting a brick wall with what should be fairly simple. Ta all

Go with google. I am running both 2013 and google docs in my school with google starting to take a strong foothold. It will be a couple of years before we switch over I think but it is the way to go. 365 for schools is fine but find the free level you get as a school was a pain in the arse for the end user (nothing like outlook.com) and google just worked. Get with it man

we have slg and its a pain in the arse to manage. The updates are just lines of code and is quite easy to bugger it up. I was once asked by the head to see if there is a way to take registers for SIMS on something other than a windows laptop so asked the guy who insisted on SLG if you can take registers on it and the response was "you can but its really not easy to do so"..... absolutely no idea why we stick with this thing. Went to BETT last week and found various systems which do the job and in a clear and easy to use way. Saying that, the mobile package for SLG is fairly nice

we removed them however found the first time a user logs on you still get the "setting up your apps" message and it takes about 3-4 min even though it is doing nothing!

I tend to email and then await the "why is the network down at the moment" conversations I have in half term. I spend ages moaning about it, go home for whisky and then forget about it.

Morning all, I am looking for a PAID solution which will clearly show me how often a collection of Windows computers are used over a course of time. Either number of minutes signed in or logons over a day or a week is required and it must have a clean reporting system. -Impero is out as I don't want to pay for the rest of the solution -Very hesitant to use a script. I know a lot of you do this but I want a 100% guaranteed solution with minimal buggering about which presents the data in a clear format (no please "run this script then export it here" reply's). -Have found a few but they are always part of a larger system which they want a fortune for. Can anyone recommend something or is it just not to be. Thanks

Morning all, We have google docs rolled out here however when a document is shared, the notification email gets sent to the junk folder and wonder if anyone knows some Exchange 2010 trickery which can help. I have tried setting up a rule where if it detects the word google it sets the spam filter rule to level 8 however this just isn't working. All help welcome. Thanks

basically he did the following... -Made a sysprep and customised it how he wanted -copied various customised files (appsFolder.itemdata-ms for example) -Set up a file copy to group policy to copy those files to the default user account in the desktop -set up a block on the network's default profile -Cleared the existing users profile. When a user signed on from there on the computer would search for a profile, not find it and look at the default network one, be denied and then use the one local to it. This way we can have different desktops between staff and students. With this method, any extra software it detects which is local to the machine has its icon placed at the end of the start screen or worst case a simple file copy creates it. Painful but worth it for the smug "we have it working" feeling. Even though it works perfectly it is far from easy to get working and painful if I want to change any tile. I will be changing to 8.1 over the summer and just setting everyone a generic start screen via group policy. I kept telling the guy who got this working for us he should write a book about it as MS we far from helpful. To this day I dispute their options on customising it work and have not seen proof outside of the TechNet images.

Yes. In all honestly it was one of my techs who cracked it and he has moved on now. It was months of painful trial and error but yes it all works perfectly along with customised start screen.

If you are looking for durability I would recommend Lenovo laptops. We have a few here and you could beat a horse to death with them and not scratch the thing (the laptop that is).

I use Veeam here for disk backups and its just so fast. If I moved into a new job the very first thing I would do would be to order Veeam.

I can fix that now and happens to us from time to time. I include the fix if your up for doing it. Open your SQL and sign in Open your SIMS SQL -Databases -solus3_deployment_server open a new query and enter the following... update solus3.agent set agent_status = 16 where agent_status = 8 Obviously best to wait for Capita to play as its SQL and could be something else but thought it may speed up the fix process for someone. Enjoy
