[ms office - o365] office 365 or office 2016
Boredguy replied to lionsl2005's topic in Office Software
Just because it's not supported, does not mean it does not work. The only "glitch" we have with Office 365 (We are using A1 Plus for Student/Faculty Licences with DBA on our stations) is reports that require a macro to complete will close down any other excel sessions on the PC. Other than that it's fine -
All our external cables (both above and below ground) are SWA at work. For some long runs they are in plastic conduit, but most are just buried. Maybe check with the electrician your going to use as you need to make sure it's the right size for the circuit

Capita are aware and issue is under investigation

[sims] FMS timeout? SQL - Communication Link Failure
Boredguy replied to Koldov's topic in MIS Systems
We had this issue for years, normally occurring during the middle of the day. It was not related to user profile as we reset them, and it did not matter if it was windows 7 or 10. Capita never worked out what it was, since it did not affect anything else on SIMS, just FMS and both stations and server showed no network drop at the time. In the end it was something we lived with til we moved to sage. -
It's not related to the same domain you had issues with back in 2018 was it (http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows-server-2012/193421-rid-replication-failure.html#post1652886) ?

swf are shockwave/flash and as such browsers have to be told to allow the flash plugin to function, which breaks lots of old software titles. Retire the package and see if they can use something more up to date if possible

RM Unify and Accessing Schools Network shares
Boredguy replied to hardware's topic in Cloud Services
I'd say that it's SharePoint Online and Google Drive, so your resources are uploaded to those platforms instead of providing connection in. The only thing we're using Unify for is to synchronise user accounts with the User Based Web Filtering as it's also an RM product Oh if it's just access to your documents remotely, and you have a local web server, you can always try Home Access Plus -
RM Unify and Accessing Schools Network shares
Boredguy replied to hardware's topic in Cloud Services
I thought it was mainly for providing a Single Sign on between your network and other systems (such as 365 if you don't use ADConnect) Not aware of it being a method to remote access your network though. -
We just ordered the couple of licences via our OVS-EES agreement, which was in the £20-£30 (before the price rise)

Domain suffix is easy to add and update for all users, same with e-mail address if it's in the format of [email protected] Once you add the UPN suffix, you can just highlight all the users and via Properties change both values at the same time using the %username% variable

Humm, unlikely as I make him do most of the work

But I wanted the PS5

Good job @DJ-1701 isn't going (or is he...)

We publish the cover page on the intranet for staff (when the cover manager remembers to click the export button) but sanitize some of the information as we use a php page to call and parse the html one
-
If they go to Focus -> Person -> Staff they should still have access to Personnel. If it's the Shortcut within SIMS, right click in the Shortcuts Section (if not collapsed) and add a new panel, then add Internal Shortcut and go through the same branch as above.
-
Errm, it's all within SIMS.Net these days. You can not remove the shortcut to personnel unless you revoke the access rights.

We mainly run it on stand alone laptops, so finding the config isn't an issue as like others we are not using the password to exit. If we did run it on the network for students, it's on a locked down account with no visible access to the network location it would run from, and they can not see the local stations hard drive so while encrypting it might be a good idea, it might not be something that's high on your tweak list.

That is different to the unlimited A1 Plus for Students/Faculty licence though MartinT. That is the licences we have

Any Wireshark experts?
Boredguy replied to kennysarmy's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Strange as our franking machine works happily via the SWGfL and Safetynet filterings. The machine picked up a DHCP address, and the engineer recommended that instead of assigning a static IP. Added the exclusion to the filtering for all users (since the machine would use our transparent filter since it does not have a username) and its still working 3 years down the line. No firewall rules were required as it was just using normal 80 and 443 apparently. If your going via the upstream proxy still, unless the site has been unfiltered there it will give you an error. If you try and access the site pb.com on a workstation that is configured to bypass smoothwall does it redirect you to the http://www.pitneybowes.com site? -

Boredguy replied to kennysarmy's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Did you allow pb.com/* in your filtering solution? -
@chazzy2501 In the safetynet admin page, select the youtube policy to "unblocked" for the user policy you want it applied to (if you have multiple) I just did this for our IT Support user group, and can now see the embedded youtube links in Edugeek, where as before I was getting an error for youtube-nocookies not being available
-
Well considering it was meant to be rolled out for primary schools in 2018 according to their own site (https://www.capita-sims.co.uk/resources/blog/next-generation-of-sims) I would imagine we might get it by 2118

For our Microbits, we had to change the USB restrictions in the relevant rooms to be controlled via Impero instead of windows, so the teachers can turn the USB drive access on. Not the best method, but as they only put them into the scheme of work last year we had to find a suitable way to keep them in use.
