Humm, might be interested in how you deployed it, but not going to detail the thread at the moment for that. It does depend what budget you have for the visualiser is. We have the standard £30 Hue in 2 of the MAT schools and they use the camera software to just display the work and it's fine for them. Our English department didn't like them and went for the £100 Ipevo which had to come from Amazon (which wiped out the credit limit on the card as we needed 8), and they look nice, have a few switches, but can't see it was worth the extra £70 in the current climate (even more so as it turns out English won't be in their classrooms in September but roaming the site due to year group bubbles) We also have the £300+ visualisers that connect directly to the projectors that we got years ago. All 3 do exactly the same thing. If you have good lighting in the room, then cheaper is often fine, otherwise ones with built in lights might be better. Edit, you can get the Hue's via consortium if you use them.

we also have these, but for the price, I'd go for the Hue HD. The ipevo software is a pain as it doesn't install 90% of the time for us as we delete profiles at logoff and it has to get the app from the windows store. Hue or Ipevo via VLC/Camera app is fine.

Watched Hamilton last night, was a good musical and worth getting Disney+ for the month

The LA (and DfE) laptops are provided with internet filtering enabled through to March 2021 by default. The Windows PC's seem to work straight away, Chromebook has had a few people say it can be a pain to get working. Serial numbers of devices should be recorded the same as loan equipment, and it should be in the agreement policy between the LA and the Pupils parents. As they are LA devices, unless they transfer ownership across to yourselves and you install your own filtering provision, you likely no way to monitor their internet access.

We got some APC BE400-UK Back-UPS 400VA and mounted them to the wall above the ceiling for those cabinets we wanted to ensure had power (and didn't have room in the cabinet for)

Windows should detect it automatically for normal camera functions. Even the website for the Hue HD says it's plug and play, and the software is for the animation software (certainly didn't hear any screams when a member of staff tried to use a Pro last week on a station at work to do a Team meeting with it)

You can hide C drive, you just need to make sure you don't deny access. If you have suitable permissions in place on the folders to stop students from having modify/create rights to locations where they don't need it shouldn't be an issue.
-
On the portal when "ordering" laptops, you could also order the 4g MiFi devices as well to provide internet access. Not sure of our LA laptops will come with one, but as a MAT we had 12 available to us so put them on the order with our laptop allocation.
-
It depends on the LA. Some are passing all support on to the schools so they need the passwords, others are not which is fine as it means at the end of the scheme duration either they will take them back or pass them on to the school at that point.
-
If you've got them from the LA, they are the technical contact as they own the device and not the school (unless they have transferred ownership but sounds like they haven't) So the student has to use the laptop as provided with Office Apps.
-
If the machines are running 10S as they originally suggested, then it can only run the web apps the same as Chromebooks. Also one less thing to worry about needing to have updates applied for.
-
Sounds about right. One of our LA's (our catchment covers 2) at least sent a list of the students they are providing a device for and giving a rough delivery estimate (2 weeks away!) Considering we've known for a while the laptops were due, it seems our staff still trying to work out who needs them as they last checked a few months ago and some appear to have acquired one in the meantime, or others now sharing and didn't say before. Had to put my foot down when they asked if we could give any to Y9's... Nope either we use them for Y10's, or we pass them to the other 3 schools in the trust that might need extra as the allocation was split 4 ways for fareness

If you want to be really mean and secure down most of the options for the team as well.. $group = New-Team -DisplayName "IT/A1" -Description "Class Team" -Template EDU_Class -AllowGiphy $false -GiphyContentRating Strict -AllowStickersAndMemes $false -AllowCustomMemes $false -AllowGuestCreateUpdateChannels $false -AllowGuestDeleteChannels $false -AllowCreateUpdateChannels $false -AllowDeleteChannels $false -AllowAddRemoveApps $false -AllowCreateUpdateRemoveTabs $false -AllowCreateUpdateRemoveConnectors $false -AllowUserEditMessages $false -AllowUserDeleteMessages $false -AllowOwnerDeleteMessages $true -AllowTeamMentions $false -AllowChannelMentions $false

It does help that for the last few months the Edugeek Discord has had a few of us playing with the Teams powershell scripts, so it's a group effort as without input from the likes of @DrCheese and @Katy we might still be scratching our heads I set all 500 of our groups at the start of April before knowing I could use the -template feature, so have to redo them all in the summer
-
If you have the latest version of the Teams powershell (such as 1.0.24 from the poshtestgallery.com) you can create class teams entirely from PowerShell $group = new-team -displayname IT/A3 -Description "Test Team" -Template EDU_Class You can then use the value returned to $group to add owners and members Add-TeamUser -GroupId $group.GroupId -User "Student@YourDomain" -Role Member Add-TeamUser -GroupId $group.GroupId -User "Staff@YourDomain" -Role Owner

The way we use it, is we get the workstation mac address, and using a csv file and powershell, add the workstation into the database filling in some of the details like screen resolution, station name, OU location, admin credentials for the build and the task sequence. Then when we boot the workstation, we do not have to enter any details after selecting the litetouch image, as it's all stored in the database.

DfE have extended the intune & umbrella coverage for laptops through to 31st March 2021 now. 4G dongles are still only covered til October

projector mounting - 4 point to 3 point
Boredguy replied to Scifigirl's topic in How do you do....it?
It depends on the mount and projector, as not all lenses are in the same spot so some adjustment is needed. Where we couldn't get mounts suitable for our projectors, we instead used 3mm Alu sheet (A4 sized) and used nuts and bolts to secure the projector to the plate, then the whole lot to the mount. -
Office 365 Students Changing Their User Photos
Boredguy replied to Fontayne56's topic in Cloud Services
We assigned images in AD to the thumbnailPhoto and jpegPhoto values In 365 we created a new OWBMailboxPolicy (can be done via the Exchange admin site) and limit some of the feature there for students, but also run the following powershell command to add additional restrictions Set-OwaMailboxPolicy -Identity Pupils -DisplayPhotosEnabled $False -SetPhotoEnabled $False -DisableFacebook $true -GroupCreationEnabled $False All students have this policy applied after their account has been created, we run the script regularly and check for users that don't have a specific policy already applied. Now that Teams is pulling the restrictions for photos from 365, most of our users appear to have been unable to change their picture from what we have assigned them (which is the school logo for each school in the trust) (You can set the permissions on the default OWAMailboxPolicy if you choose) -
Because you might have already provided the students they think are eligible from your own supplies?
