  1. Setting a Bios password to restrict the network boot option on the device is the first option, as without that the device can't get into the PXE boot option. We only have our MDT Litetouch image enabled in WDS, which starts the workstation off on a full rebuild without any user intervention. When most of our devices just used normal BIOS and not UEFI, we updated the bootloader for the WDS PXE to be a linux one so that we could have a menu structure and for it to require a password to boot into the main PXE loader, but these days we don't bother.
  2. Yes we've had this challenge for the last few years when students join us, as they are more used to using tablets and the apps which save files where it wants to, compared to computers with folder structures. This year all our Y7 students had an hour session at the start of term logging on the PC, creating folders for all their subjects etc and they still have problems a month into term
  3. Not noticed any issue on any of ours, and I reinstalled them all in the Summer via MDT with a task specifically to run the powershell script to install any of the additional drivers that it needs.
  4. What I did (and we did the same with the original version) was to install it manually on 1 station and enter the In and Out folder, select that we have a custom AppData folder (we have 1 for both stations) and let it finish installing. We then copy the jcq.a2c.client.gui.exe.config file to the same folder as our MSI, and we have a batch file to install it on the stations msiexec.exe /i "%~dp0A2C Transport Application" /q If Exist "C:\Program Files (x86)\A2C Transport Application" Copy "%~dp0jcq.a2c.client.gui.exe.config" "C:\Program Files (x86)\A2C Transport Application" If Exist "C:\Program Files\A2C Transport Application" Copy "%~dp0jcq.a2c.client.gui.exe.config" "C:\Program Files\A2C Transport Application" Working fine so far, and deployed via SCCM You could always use a GPP value to copy over the file if you don't want to use a batch file too
  5. Well technically the fire alarm is independent to the Bodet sounders, so it would depend on who you got to record the audio maybe Certainly a friend who works in one of the Special schools nearby said that fire drills can be a nightmare as the bells & banshee sounders really works up some of their students to a state where they need 2 members of staff to get them out, so for lesson change having something more calming might work better.
  6. We've been using Bodet for a while, and although I have a couple of melody sounders, we mainly use the fire alarm bells. That said, the melody sounders give you 16 pre-set musical tunes you can use, and you can get sounders with built in flashing light. Think they still come with a SD card slot so you can create your own sounds to replace the default so you could have someone record a message to play if you don't want a sound if that would be better for your students. The newer system is also PoE and you can get a microphone and preset notification unit for your reception that can work through the system as well. Handy for any urgent messages etc.
  7. All our classes have a Team created anyway for Remote learning/assignments etc and of course for handing in any work it's all built in. I've kept sharepoint for more of "Whole school" style resources, and departments can add a link in the Team to the Sharepoint site as needed. All staff resources, such as Handbook, covid isolations, calendars etc are on a dedicated "Staff Info" sharepoint site and not in a team
  8. We have communication sites setup for each department to hold the student resources/schemes of work, with that subjects staff as members and other staff and students as visitors (so they can't modify any content). Departmental staff resources are held within that departments Team instead of setting up a site specifically within Sharepoint, that way the Heads of Department can maintain the group membership instead of me
  9. We had a similar request for one of our students a few years ago, and had to point out the GDPR implications to the councils SEND member they had sent over. Unlike projectors where the screen could be frozen to take the register, most of the screen mirroring solutions they were recommending just capture the whole screen all the time so that would be sent to the students laptop. Our solution was for the student to have a dedicated Team setup which the SENCO is an owner off and keeps up to date with all the students teachers. Any powerpoints that are used in the class are put into the team and the student can access it via the iPad at the magnification they need without any worries about accidently broadcasting student details to the device.
  10. We've both flu and covid vaccination for the students this week by the looks of it
  11. Yep, or in our case the start menu is based on the user that logs in, so a SPAG allowed account could get 1 shortcut, non SPAG allowed gets the other. Even better if you don't have the file association set on the users device as well just to be on the safe side.
  12. Or 2 different shortcuts to 2 installation folders with the different json. Click shortcut to have it with Spelling, or without?
  13. Yes you are not dreaming (yet) and you need to have around £90-£100 of available credit for some of them before a transaction can proceed to ensure there is enough to cover the cost of a potential bilking.
  14. Assume there a logical reason why they are only using the browser based version of Office and do not have the standard Click to Run application installed which allows access to the files as long as you are logged in to Office, as that would resolve any issue with spell checking in the browser not functioning (and also allow access to the rest of the applications ability as the web version does have several features removed including it's own spell checker).
  15. We've had this a few times since August, but we found the issue on the station appeared to be the windows firewall got corrupted in the August update. If you are unable to ping the workstation (and others happily respond), try downloading the Windows Firewall Troubleshooter from the MS website for it to reset it. It's easier than a rebuild
  16. I've skimmed through the thread, and it seems that the issue is nothing to do with Office 365 itself, but rather the browser your accessing the web version of the office app in? If your users are able, in Edge, can you go to Settings -> Languages? The Enable Spellcheck section should have the language it is using selected under it (we have English (United Kingdom) enabled, but not English or English (United States)) If you add a word into the Customised Spell Check in this section, the Word Online App picks it up in Edge.
  17. I schedule the update to deploy at 4am when users can't connect to the Remote Access and all the workstations are off. Stations then get the update via Solus when they get turned on. Rarely an issue with it
  18. Strange, on their website it appears quite clear that the write back is only the comms log "Comms Log SIMS write back – allows you to keep an audit trail of communications between school and home. Reduces manual record keeping and ensures record integrity."
  19. Your school IT team should be the ones keeping an eye on server capacity etc, and dealing with your SIMS support company for technical issues the same as any other product you have. Certainly based on your previous post regarding backups then something has gone sideways and could be part of the upgrade issue. Within our trust, the SIMS servers and the good running of it falls within the IT Teams remit. Use of the different modules within SIMS is the responsibility of the Data Manager/Admin team, but the actual Server and client installation should be your IT Team unless it's specifically under the control of your SIMS support company
  20. Have you made sure that the Solus 3 has been updated to the required version first before deploying out 7.2? You should be on 3.12.59.5
  21. Using a splitter always resolves the issue as the PC is not trying to send the different signals to each device, but does mean that you only have the option of it being a "clone" of the screen. Some of our staff have taken to setting our ActivePanels as Extended desktop so they can just put some of the work up on the screen and carry on with SIMS etc on the monitor that students can't see. It depends which works best for each situation.
  22. We've found that if you have a computer with 2 visual outputs connected, such as Monitor on VGA and an activepanel on HDMI/Displayport, and showing a power point presentation while the screens are in clone mode, that pressing ESC to exit the presentation ends up with the monitor input being disabled and only the activepanel showing. To get round this we remind staff to use the right click option to End Show and not Escape, or if it does occur, to hold down the Windows Key and press P twice then enter so that it switches the graphics card back to Clone mode instead of second screen only
  23. Like the others above, just got the sites in the IE Site to Zone assignment, but all of our workstations are also set as Hybrid Azure AD devices with the option set in AzureConnect and in GPO (see below) User Policy Windows Componets\Internet Explorer\Internet Control Panel\Security Page\Site to Zone Assignment List https://autologon.microsoftazuread-sso.com 1 https://aadg.windows.net.nsatc.net 1 https://tenancyname-my.sharepoint.com 1 https://tenancyname.sharepoint.com 1 Workstation Policy Windows Componets\Internet Explorer\Internet Control Panel\Security Page\Site to Zone Assignment List https://device.login.microsoftonline.com 1 Windows Componets\Device Registration Register Domain Joined Computers as Devices Enabled
  24. If you mean the thermal reset, it's inside the case, and think I found it easier to take the circuit board off to do it, but then again with the age of that projector, it might be easier to get a new unit thats more powerful.
  25. We do not sync the temp folder, but we have also recommended that any report that is output as a excel file is altered to generate a CSV instead, as it is just the Excel Macro to convert the outputted text file to the Excel view that is the problem. Generating it as CSV is perfectly fine.
