Think issue in my view not a tech issue but proccess one. In terms of whole school calendar the school needs to decide on what system to use and that is ones used by everyone. Then for user calendar people can use what ever there own choice. Russell

Maybe it is me but I really dislike naming after things. Use to name things xxx-???-&&&. Xxx would be site code I.e lhs ??? Would be type code so srv for servers, swt for switches, STM for stations etc etc &&& would be number starting from 1 Russ

In my view it is not an easy program to setup. I installed it on few PCs other day and wasn't very impressed with limited feature set (but I would say that ) Just no thought into ease of setting up at all both from install and setting up in general... Russ

I do know some of the RM exam software uses XUL framework so may need to allow xulrunner.exe. As do not know ranger very well or that version of the exam software I can't advise any further...

Had play with long time ago but stuck with evernote. I have recently added automated content sharing - tarpipe into the mix. So lot of email for example forum emails goto a tarpipe email that adds in the right tagging to the subject line. This means evernote puts everything into the right place... Russ

Well two things to clarify yes we all have our duty of care and not saying that. In terms of making sure that young people are trained and taught e-safety that duty of care is to school and they delegate that to whoever and you would/should be compensated for it. I suppose it is degree on your involvement if person in charge asks you to run a session as you have a skill on a subject that is different that them asking you organise and co-ordinate training & create policies on e-safety that is certainly in my mind an extra role. As for CPO not being SLT it is more common than you think and in fact becoming quite common.. Russ Russ

For those not in the know.. Merlin is a version of RM learning platform created for SWGFL. It has number of tools including the standard learning platform from RM plus number of third party tools integrated into it. The parent reporting brings in things from VLE (RM own custom code not sharepoint), MIS data and few other bits and bobs.. Regards Russell

While network e-safety maybe your role I would argue that there is a big difference between network e-safety and total "e-safety". In terms of child protection and esignated child protection officer. If they are slt you would not expect them to get extra if it was a role undertaken by someone else other than SLT (which it can be) you would expect them to be a grade associated with that role. Is parent/staff training of e-safety a network managers role if not then argument goes out of window that part of your existing duties... If part of LA you can ask the job to be reviewed in which a panel made of LA, HR, school etc looks at if you are on the right pay scale. If going down this route and part of union get there advice on filling the forms in etc. Russ Russell

Not sure about merlin but assuming that using standard Rm lp tools it will link with sims. Cmis and intergris. @schoolpack That said Rm were looking at why other Mis to integrate but you will need to talk to them about that.. Russ

I suspect that the international arm of business will pick up in next quarter with improved funding (hoping) from us government for education and number of tenders being bid for (that assumes RM win some). Russ

Hi Someone with bit more experience of Sims (aka a Sims ninja master) will come along in long term to answer in more detail. The merlin (aka RM LP) module gets if I remember rightly student behaviour, attendance and assessment (sure more but without access to a test system of any kind now). So attendance I assume already done via omr sheets. In terms of assessment this can be imported in via excel sheets just need to set some templates up. Not sure about behaviour (remember this module can also be used to record rewards). Two things to ask does your Sims support via LA have any people can tap into to help you maximise your use of Sims.net and if not how about local upper school with a data manager who can help you... As said if wait a few the true Sims ninjas will be along as my knowledge of data side of sims is limited these days Also a side note at some point not sure when reporting modules etc of RM LP will write back to sims.net.
