I work for a primary school so it might be a little different to comprehensive level but I'm just in the middle of getting quotes for a 12k order. I just have to find three quotes and give me recommendations for which I'd go for, to the business manager.

Just downloaded it now. Looks great and I can see great potential. I'm having the same problem as tomgrindle though, says cannot establish connection when I try to open up one of the files I've already created. Going to try it from home tonight. It's what I've been looking for for a while, I just need to soft the network issue out.

My other half has been using Joli OS for about 7 - 8 months now and she loves it. She uses it mainly for surfing the net. It's installed on an Old HP laptop. She always hated waiting for things to load, with Joli OS you click on Chrome and it opens more or less instantly... brilliant. New version coming out soon too.

We use Purple Mash at one of my schools, throughout the entire school. They use it heavily and have never had any problems with it. The only niggle I have is the admin side, adding users, moving groups etc.. can be a little slow to update and fiddly.

tarpipe sounds interesting. I like the thought of being able to update muliple sites/services in one go. I've been extensively using and testing Springpad over the last 24 hours and, whilst it's simplistic which is exactly what i wanted, I'm already finding that I want to do more with it than it will allow. I think I'm going to have another crack with Evernote.

I think schools are always going to be 'behind the times' to a certain extent, when compared to the technology that people buy into their homes. For one, the amount of testing needed before new technologies can be uesd in the classroom slow the process down. I've heard, plenty of times, from students in my schools saying " our computer at home is far better than these ones at school" or " why can't we have X because we have it at home". Having said that, with competent ICT staff and a good solid structure in place for replacements and progression then schools should never be too far behind. The part about teachers struggling to keep upto date with the technologies is something, in my opinion, that can be combated by how the change in technology is done. When new systems are put in place, be it new versions of office or new versions of Windows, they should be done correctly. Allowing for training, allowing for schemes of work to be changes and allowing for staff to get their head around the new technology before it's pushed out for use in lessons.

Hi Claire, I have had a similar problem before, with Powerpoint crashing, and it was caused by something mentioned by Sukh. The PPT which crashed has an embedded movie file. However, when the PPT was moved onto the shared drive for use the movie file wasn't moved with it. When powerpoint opened, it looked for the movie file and crashed. I now put the PPT, if I know it's going to be moved onto a shared drive or used by multiple people, in a folder and put any music files or movie files with it. That way the link to the files will always remain. Hope this helps

All I wanted was a place to put multiple to do lists. I have 5 schools and wanted someone I could make notes of things that needed doing, simple notes, nothing complex or requiring pictures etc.. Although I didn't really explorer evernote too much it seemed a little complex for what I needed. Springpad seems to do exactly what I need. I'm sure evernote can be used to any extent you want and you don't have to use all it's options and features. I'll keep using springpad, for now, and see what I think of it after a weeks use.

Has anyone ever used, or is anyone currently using Springpad as a way of taking notes. It's very similar to Evernote although it seems to be a far more simplistic way of doing things. I've downloaded it for my iPhone and I've used my google account to log in. You can also log into it from your PC by visiting their website. I'm currently trying it out. I just wondered what other peoples thoughts on it were. The URL is anyone wants to take a look: Springpad: a free app that helps you remember
