We've been running Papercut here since September, and I'm very happy with it. Got the papercut modules working in our new Ricoh copiers now with AD authentication for copying. Pull printing will be rolled out in the new year when we get our new machines in Reprographics and that should save have a big effect, even if I expect a backlash early doors when people realise they have to release jobs.

Don't think I ever got back to you after this change was made. Works a treat so thanks for helping us with this. I believe it was 5228, although I may be wrong.

I've ordered some PCs from this mob before. Haven't had any problems with the PCs, but my impression of the company is that it seems to be all over the place. Have had half a dozen account managers in a short space of time, and looking at their website now, their PCs look remarkably like those previously supplied by A2Z... Haven't had any similar pushy phone calls though.

We don't do it here, and I've only been asked a handful of times to retrieve coursework for absent students etc, or CVs for some of our year 11s. Given we have shared department areas where students can save work for staff to pick up, there's really been no need for this.

You'd be better off waiting until Spring.

We looked at iPads earlier in the year for our sixth form, but felt they didn't provide a comprehensive enough working environment for our students. I think I can see them being used in the classroom in small batches, maybe just as research tools at first for students, or for teachers in addition to what they currently have. Lack of easy management and quite frankly a decent keyboard limits their ability to completely win over this environment though, IMO.

I'm currently in the process of moving out of my office, which like you is also the server/comms room. Most of the servers and not rack-mounted, and the main cabinet had to have the back removed, so the place was deemed too noisy to work in. Moving to an office nearer the front of the school, the only slight peeve is I won't have the bonus of air con during the summer months.

I just don't like using laptops/tablets really. Will probably always have a desktop as my main system.

We do the same. I'm actually looking at putting together a proposal to move away from laptops for teachers in favour of fixed PCs in the classroom. Would free up our wireless network for portable student devices, and would be backed up by a new remote access system.

Just me here. 1100 users, six servers, 270 desktops, 85 laptops, and 50 tablets, and everything that entails. Thankfully the AV side of things is done by someone else though.

There's a Microsoft tech article with some decent advice on this. Main thing is disabling autorun and I seem to recall restricting access to the system service, as it spreads by creating scheduled tasks. Real pain when we had it, so good luck.

We are using Asus EEE Pad Transformers in our sixth form. Few issues to thrash out with EMBC regarding certain things with the proxy, but in terms of use I'm pretty happy.

Watched it a lot when I lived in Canada, and it's great.

On desktops just one partition. Staff laptops have a system partition and then a 'DATA' one, which is local storage for that member of staff and is their responsibility to backup. You can imagine how well that goes.

I enjoy it. I'm a one-man-band so obviously it can be a struggle sometimes to keep all the plates spinning at the same time, but as mentioned above no two days are ever the same, and whilst this summer is proving exceptionally manic, most of that is down to new projects at the school, and it's nice to think I'm playing a part in putting these things in place. Always nice to see some tangible improvements.

Oh I agree, and I do doubt whether some players are actually achieving more if they move to clubs and play substantially less football, albeit in winning teams. I look at Michael Owen last season for example, with his Premiership medal, I wonder how he feels about it? But anyway, I'm more interested to see which 16-year-olds we'll spend the Fabregas/Nasri money on.

Watched most of it. Bit tasty considering it's basically their Community Shield. Fabregas has been there three days and has already matched the trophy haul he had at ours in six years.

We had some of those as well. Ordered 3.30pm on the Thursday, arrived at 10am on the Friday.

I do find it frustrating that so few people are able to look beyond the iPad for these sort of things. We're introducing tablet devices for our sixth formers next year and after trialling and considering many options, we've gone for the Asus eee Pad Transformer. There are a mass of options out there now.

Always worth a check as it has a habit of switching itself on sometimes following reboots. Left me pretty red-faced a few months back when we had issues with one of our servers and it turned out to be the firewall.
