Hi. I am using BGInfo to diplay details about my users. When Students logon I currently have: Username, Station Name, IP Address, Logon Time and Screen Resolution [i have required some or all of these values at least once in the past so now I have them in view all of the time] I have now been asked to display the full name of the Student users [i suppose so that Supply Staff can differentiate James from John when 08SmithJ and 08SmithJT are both logged on in the same computer room] I have this script: which will echo the full name as a string to the screen so I know it works [got it from Edugeek] What I would like it to do now is write the string to a text file [with a nominated file file name in a nominated place: eg: %TEMP%\UserFullName.TXT] so that BGInfo can pick it up and display it along with all of the other information already on screen. Can anyone help with this? I am not very good with coding [as you might have guessed: I just adapt what I see elsewhere but I can't seem to make this work] Thanks.

I'm looking at moving from a Viglen Classlink XP network () to a vanilla network (). I'm not a fan of Classlink but its one redeeming feature is that when you login to a machine it puts the user's name and AD group in the corner of the desktop. Anyone know how to do this without the need for classlink? I assume its Active desktop related

Hi, What formula do you use for student usernames. We have tried (exam numbers), (1st letter forename + 1st letter middle name + 1st 3 letters of surname) and recently (1st 3 letters of surname + 1st letter forename + 1st letter of middle name) 'if no middle name 1st 2 letters of first name'. Our teachers say that they need to identify students by their username. We tried other methods but had loads of duplicates :-( What do you do? Also do you allow access to student homedrives for teachers? They want to mark work and save it back. They don't want to use the vle as we have Moodle and they want to do it without uploading and saving in their own area? Any ideas?

I am sorry guys, I've done a search and couldn't see on here - or on Google an easy to understand guide for my request - actually the teachers as they are going insane but Basically we are moving to a SSO structure within WCC and part of that is having global ids which move with the user throughout their education within WCC. This global id gives them access to a range of services using the Shibboleth SSO platform. We also use these global ids and passwords in AD. What I want to do is pass the current windows login details (preferably both username and password but I highly doubt the password bit is possible) to the Shibboleth webpage when they open it. I was going to do some form of AutoIT script, but I can't work out how to go about getting the windows username. Does anyone have any good ideas for this? The webpage requiring input is here Worcestershire Learning Gateway using the login link on the right. The page first asks for the username and then you submit and then it asks for the password. As stated I want to enter at least the username when prompted and submit the page so that they just have to use the password. Any help appreciated!

Hi, I'm new to edugeek so I'm sorry if this has been asked before. One of my colleagues visited a local school and saw that they had the student's usernames displayed on the desktop of their CC3 machines. How is this possible? Can I do it too? It's very helpful when you need to learn the kids names quickly!

Hello I have a teacher who is getting married this summer and would like to change her network username and email address to show her new name from the Autumn term. I have seen a few technet articles and read some suggestions on another techie forum and am now a bit confused. I tried it once a couple of years ago with another member of staff and she had logging on issues after becasue she had a local profile folder in her old name and then a new folder in iher new name, but with the same SSIDs I guess which was why. I just changed her network home folder, her AD entry and her email address. She didn't have any email problem just loggon issues and I had to delte her old user folder manually several times because it kept reappearing and on differnt machines she used in school. We use local (Static) profiles in our school not roaming, Server 2008 R2, Windows 7 client machines and I am using Exchange 2010. Is there a definitive best way to do this? Our previous network manager did it a couple of times a few years ago without any problems, but didnt show me how she did it, (I was much more part time until she left us!) and unfortunatly I am not a experienced as she was, but I am learning fast! Ladies changing their surnames this is so old fashioned, perhaps it is about time the men did it? less hassle in schools with 99% young female staff!

Does anybody know Rangers default username and password for the test creator module within the software? We have had a new install and dont know what it is. Help would be much appreciated Thanks
