Apologies for my noble leaders lack of response ( hes a very busy man), Steve I think it would be safer to assume its just for the year, as with all fixed term jobs though if the right person comes along and is still needed after that year then obviously it might be possible to keep them on. As a technician at the school I can honestly say it's a great working environment all 3 of us techies are very friendly share the same strange sense of humour etc! Can't remember if it was on the Job description but a car would be highly beneficial as it's a split site school and you will be needed at both ends, otherwise a few of the staff do get taxis to and fro and its only about a mile and a half between the sites. The main role of the job is going to be setting up and migrating all the data onto the new "Life" VLE and teaching teachers /staff/ possibly students how to use it. Mark it would be easier for questions to be asked and answered on here. Thanks

We have a broker and as far as we can tell it is configured correctly. What would we need to type in an rdp connection box is it just the pool name or is there a magical suffix or prefix??

no-one knows anything about Desktop pooling??

After days of playing around with desktop pooling i've come to the conclusion it doesnt exist, not for what we want to do anyways. Our plan has been for a while to do this: Thin clients in non graphically intensive rooms (axel 80F) Desktop pooling using a "golden image" "dynamically created" machines? Machine is wiped when user logs off Running Windows 7 + office 2010 So we have purchased (over a year ago) a 3tb dell san for the systems to sit on 2 x Servers to run the virtual machines Dell R610 with 24gb Ram each (UVMS01, UVMS02) (Ram upgrade to 72gb/96gb when funds allow) 9 Axel M80F's (currently connecting to individual XP desktops on UVMS01) So where I (the technician) got to after some research, was that we would need to create a Windows 7 virtual machine and then generate differencing disks from this, which I did and then assign these differencing disks to newly created virtual machines and add them to a desktop pool, no problems so far, all created and I can connect to each of them individually the issue is how do you connect to the pool eg Win7pool can you RDP to a pool somehow, I saw somewhere that you can edit a custom .rdp file and add the pool name to it, but I had no luck with this either, If I go through remote web access the Pool shows up there but when I connect to it I get redirected to UVMS01 which is also the session broker etc. So I feel like im gazumped and possibly heading down the wrong path, as we would still be creating the differencing disks which are about 1GB each. Now our plans are based on something our senior tech is sure he has heard is possible at some point! While I have every confidence this is true I'm having little luck finding out how to do it. If anyone has any pointers or has thin clients running from server 2008 r2 hyper v please respond! So again the main problems, how do we point a thin terminal to a desktop pool rather then a specific machine (it seems oblivious to the fact the pool exists) Can the machines be created at logon or do we just need to use differencing disks? How do we get the differencing disks to revert to an earlier snapshot when the user logs off, ie go back to fresh installed desktop. Sorry if this sounds like rambling im full of cold and "I can't brain today I have teh dumb"!

plusnet can do all this for you, I had a deactivated line and within 2 weeks it was up and they had sorted broadband too!

recently moved house had massive 4 month headache with sky/ BT/ talktalk, before trying plus net and they had it working within 2 weeks and the connection fee was cheaper than the rest and good quidco cashback, £40 i believe. EDIT: just wanted to add we were with Sky at our last place and had no problems at all, decent speeds never lost connection in 2 years, great value when combined with phone and tv, i personally think all internet problems stem back to BT, words cannot express how much I hate that company.

Brilliant looking forward to part 2, been wanting to set this up for a while.Only issue is we currently already have WDS configured and running, is this a problem? Should we just remove the role and start again whilst keeping the images we already have?

Not really a mashup but tweaked it a little, and if it goes on one of the display screens or anything will obviously remove the server names.

my dad had to collect me from there yesterday and he parked in tescos 5 mins away, the mcdonalds at the airport just by the roundabout has a strict limit its either 45 mins or 90 mins and an auto £90 fine if you are over, regardless of if you eat there so just be aware of that.

Went last year, it was really good, loads of expensive stuff though, so me and the other half played the "how many free pens can you get" game, ended up with 12 the live show was very good aswell. it is an exhausting day though!

Recently joined plusnet after a NIGHTMARE 5 months with Sky, BT and talk talk all being completely incapable of simply reconnecting the phone line, phoned plus net had it (and broadband) up and running in two weeks no bother also reconnecion was £70 cheaper than the others PLUS there was about £35 cashback on quidco, jobs a good un.

yep thats what I meant Carpoint Leisure Battery Cut Off Switch the switch sits on the live battery cable and the key completes the circuit so just take it out at night, that's what I had, though many a time early in the morning I couldnt figure out why the car wouldnt start DOH!

battery cut off switch or fuel cut off switch as menitoned, try an have them hidden somewhere, behind drivers seat etc, i've had minis so know all about trying to keep them secure! also leave them in gear, full lock etc

Has anyone else noticed the general hard drive price hikes, nearly doubling in price for the same reason, I think this will push people towards ssd and hopefully force the prices down and hopefully the technology forward for larger capacities!
