We have been asked by our Facilities Manager to look at reducing energy consumption in IT, it's something that has always been at the back of my mind but when you are asked to actually do something about it, you realize how much is being wasted. Using Impero's power monitor it told us that teachers machine over a one week period were wasting £80 of power, through being left on and idle overnight and at weekends. Same problem with projectors. So to counter this we have set a shutdown time of 10pm for all teachers machines and the same for projectors, this is the time the site gets locked up so we can be certain no-one is in using something. Also set thin terminals to shut off when a user logs off, which then also puts the monitor into standby mode. What else do you guys and girls do, do any of you use standby on windows? Do you manually check everything's turned off at the end of the day? Anything else we can be doing to save more energy? Over to you Edugeek!

Dear Lovely Edu-Geekers! My other half's workplace have purchased a pack of standard new documentation and policies, they all need to be re-branded with her workplace's logo etc, the issue is there are about 200 documents that need doing, I've seen that you can find and replace an image in a single word document but does anyone know of a way to do it in bulk? Help would be muchly appreciated otherwise it is several hours work to do it manually! Alternatively is there a way to make a word template and apply it to many docs?? Many Edu-Hobnobs for the answer!

Eclipse.net Active Directory (AD) and phone app
denzal2k4 replied to Jona's topic in Educational Software
I've been informed that a ticket has now been created which is in open escalation for your team to look at with regards to linking the URL to the Academy on the app. If it doesn't get anywhere in a couple of days I'll send you another request. Thanks for your response.- 22 replies

Eclipse.net Active Directory (AD) and phone app
denzal2k4 replied to Jona's topic in Educational Software
We are currently running the gauntlet with MLS support being told its not supported as a self hosted solution, have done everything they have asked so far, and the page is accessible externally, but having issues getting them to link us into the database, I've even mentioned to them that I think they need to link our url in their database, we show up in the list on the app but it says its not enabled for us, I'm getting to the stage where I may have to send a blunt email, pointing out that I know why they are being difficult as they want to host it for us but we aren't interested!! Anyone have any tips for getting the job done sooner as i'm getting it in the ear from the librarian!!- 22 replies

I took part in i19 and i21, they were great events...from what I can remember day 1 usually involved getting familiar with the bar! My games were Day of Defeat, CS, C&C Generals and BF1942. My clans were [nWo] and then [sCOT], happy memories but as others have said maybe would redo those years differently if I got the chance.

Currently 0.3 miles, soon to be 29 miles each way, my economical Seat Leon does it for 63 mpg give or take so not too costly.

Pearson onscreen platform installation woes
denzal2k4 replied to IT_Man_Dan's topic in Educational Software
Recieved this little gem this morning: "Dear Colleague, As you will be aware, in March we requested that centres install the new version of POP (Pearson's Onscreen Platform) for the onscreen, on-demand tests in Sport. Despite extensive testing of the new software, there were three questions across all of our live tests which were affected by the software upgrade. Although this issue has now been fixed, for a short period of time this meant that a small number of learners one question could not be accessed. The affected question was worth one mark out of the 50 available marks. We have carried out a full analysis of the results for all affected learners and have provided one additional mark to all learners who had been disadvantaged. NQF BTEC Firsts in Sport | 20586E FA14114 FA14117 FA14120 FA14123 FA14128 Please note that if you applied for Special Consideration for any learners as a result of this issue, this email is confirmation of the fact that all affected learners have had special considerations applied where necessary. Regards, Onscreen Test Team" -
Had this issue yesterday after update, ran simsapplicationsetup.exe from the setup dir and it fixed it.

We have V7 mice, think we pay £4.50 each and haven't had any issues with them, no more then we have with our old logitech ones, kids can't tell the difference.
