I've never used Cheques, on the rare chance that I do need to use one then I just have the bank write one up for me, cost 10 pounds but its a bankers draft. If you are worried about collecting large amounts just phone inadvance and have them make up a sealed bundle, one of my friends was paid 20,000 pounds in cash recently and it was in bundles of 5000 and they were sealed and signed by the bank, so it saves having to count it out.

Windows 7 System restore Hi Guys, Due to Steadystate not being supported on Windows 7 and comodo time machine causing Windows 7 to hang at shutdown I need some scripts. I need a script that runs at student logoff that tells the computer to restore from the latest restore point. I have a script at the moment that nearly does it but it restores from a restore point numbered 20. Is there a way to edit this script so it just uses the latest restore point. Thanks for any help. Const RESTORE_POINT = 20 strComputer = "." Set objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:" _ & "{impersonationLevel=impersonate}!\\" & strComputer & "\root\default") Set objItem = objWMIService.Get("SystemRestore") errResults = objItem.Restore(RESTORE_POINT)

we have over 250 student laptops here but they are all in department laptop trolleys so are charged when not in use, it would be cheaper for each student to have one spare battery each, doubles the amount of time they can use it and they can charge at home.

I don't like the rep system because it does not represent a persons ability to answer the question asked on the thread. I think it would be better if only the thread starter could thank the posts in their thread then the rep recieved would be due to the information in the post being usefull rather than plain brown nosing like a certain two individuals that work in a school in the north east, they always thank each others posts despite sharing a office.

we unblock sites like youtube, facebook and then use Smoothwall to block years 7-11 from these sites, we have a bypass password that can be used if 7-11 need these sites.

106s or saxos are good, your big saving on the insurance is making sure its registered to a nice address, ie not a council estate with high crime. Limit the miles to under 5000 per year and have a large voluntary excess.

Moving from RM CC4 to Windows Network
Jose replied to tj2419's topic in Network and Classroom Management
no where in my previous post did I mention RM techs not having the skills needed, infact I used the term any decent tech, a generic term regardless of system used. Instead of trying to argue with me maybe you could help the original poster by pointing out what RM tools do that vanilla and free tools can't. We are all here to help each other and opinions will vary, which is why on a thread like this its probably more useful to the original poster to discuss the tools and functions rather than prices and manpower as they will vary from school to school.- 47 replies

Moving from RM CC4 to Windows Network
Jose replied to tj2419's topic in Network and Classroom Management
This is what I meant, I think a lot of RM techs think it takes a lot of man power and time to build and configure a vanilla network, now these things are all a matter of personal opinion, I think I and most techs could install and configure a vanilla system with GPOs etc in a day, using just the free tools mentioned above. If you keep it simple and neat and tidy then 2003 server and above are a doddle. I am currently preparing for our first room of Windows 7 client machines, I installed the admin tools on a windows 7 machine and configured the GPOs, it took about 2 hours but now when the 30 machines turn up next month they will deploy easily and be ready to use.- 47 replies

Moving from RM CC4 to Windows Network
Jose replied to tj2419's topic in Network and Classroom Management
This is a old debate really thats been done to death on here, most of the people who believe that a RM system offer value for money do so under the false belief that a vanilla system is difficult to install and configure. Configuring GPOs and login scripts/batch files is a bread and butter job that any decent tech should be able to do. WDS to image computers and abtutor or italc to control. A good way to compare the RM tools with the standard and free admin tools available is to forget the cost and just compare the functions, I think most most Techs would still prefer the vanilla options even if RM tools were free. Bulk password control/AD bulk modify = free , NTFS fix = free ,- 47 replies

Fuel consumtion has nothing to do with safety, if you want to save money on fuel use cruise control, I have a dial on my dash that tells me my mpg and using cruise control steadies it at a good rate. The best way to save lifes on the motorway is not to nanny state people by telling them what they can and can't do. These things would reduce car accidents loads. better brakes, a bmw with the latest brakes can stop about twice as quick as a saxo/106. Aluminous lines in the middle of each motorway lane, enabling the driver to see the shape of the road for quite a distance. better lighting on motorways would be better but cost too much. Run flat tyres to prevent blowouts, saves loads of lifes use engine managment chips to cap top speeds on young and woman drivers:hand:

Papercut old version -- How to stop it closing
Jose replied to Jose's topic in Network and Classroom Management
you probably have a later version, we have 7.5. most versions after 8 have a noquit=y option to put in the config.properities file. we have a old version but this is the only problem we have with it, -
if your running the master controller on a windows xp or vista machine then you should download and run this patch www.LvlLord.de - Tipps, Tricks & Utilities - Tools This enables desktop machines to handle more than 10 connections at once
