you do realise that the jobs in the new academys are probably ear marked for internal candidates from the merging schools involved. Normally when two schools merge people are invited to reapply for their current position.

Thanks for the kind offer but my school has a policy off only using tft monitors.

If you have a classroom set of desktop PCs that you are getting rid of this summer, we would like them, Willing to pay for them to be collected from your school and dropped here. We will then remove any labels/security tags that identify them to your school. This covers you from the recycling rules and regs.

I only want to run Limitlogin scripts for students if they login to certain rooms and trolleys, this is to stop problems happening when they logon/off laptops with 2.4ghz wireless, limit login works fine everywhere else. I don't mind how its done as long as the script stops limitlogin being used on certain computers. what I need it to do is look at the computer name, if it meets certain conditions then end the script, if the computername does not meet these conditions then proceed to run limitlogin scripts. Please help

is it possible to get thes ruckus APs to use 5ghz wireless N only, ie don't use 2.4 at all when using N clients that have 5ghz wifi cards ?.
-
We have only recently sorted our classroom wireless out, we have 100 staff laptops that only support 11g, 3 x 18 ict laptops = 54 laptops 11abg, 5 x 18 science laptops = 54 laptops 11g + 18 11a +18 11n 36 eng/hum laptops 11g, 28 dt laptops 11g, 18 maths laptops 11abg , 36 mfl laptops 18 11g + 18 11abg plus a few extra around the place. 362 classroom laptops 126 support 5GHZ, 236 support 2.4GHZ we have recently come to the conclusion that the way forward is with the 5GHZ APs thanks for your help Stuart. we purchased ten of these netgear WNHDE111 last month, they are N 5GHZ APs that also support 11a, they have 6 antennas and don't slow down N clients while supporting 11a clients at the same time. we have it worked out that 2 APs per 18 laptops gives us a high quality service. This involves making sure each room used for laptops can see 2 APs.

thanks for the honest reply. it seems to me the only way to get large amounts of clients working with atleast 2MB of bandwidth is to use the 5GHZ APs. does extricom load balance clients better than ruckus?
-
We are not in position to buy, but I am impressed by peoples opinions on Ruckus and it look a impressive system to provide "site wide" wireless access but what I'm trying to find out is how it handles large amounts of clients while providing 2MB per client bandwidth. I KNOW its a quality product at doing what it does but would it do what I want it to do, what is giving atleast 2MB per client. Please dazzle with science and explain how one AP with 57 clients provides 2MB to each laptop
-
that would be good thanks, I'm after facts and figures about bandwidth per client, I fully understand that ruckus is good at providing consistant connections without dropouts. My understanding of wireless is that the bandwidth is shared between clients so to have 2MB per client on a 54mb (real speed 18mb) network you need 1 access point per 9 clients. I suppose my question is can does the Ruckus AP that has 57 clients on it give atleat 2MB per client, I can't see how it can without changing the laws of physics.
-
The N speed is 300.00, so thats really only about 75-80MB in real world speeds, so for each client to be given 2MB each you would need three wireless N access points. Just out of interested in line with my original question how would ruckus provide 120 11g clients in the same sports hall with 2MB bandwidth without channel interference. I am not trying to badmouth ruckus or any other system I'm just trying to establish if any of these systems actually gain/give clients any extra bandwidth/speed. I understand why people are happy with the system it keeps clients connected without any dropouts as it obviously does due to all the positive feedback on here but can it provide bandwidth of atleast 2MB to 11g clients in areas of a school that has over 35 laptops (11g) in a small space. 54MB is only about 18MB so really only 9 11g clients per access point/channel The reason I am asking these questions is to try to have a measurable quality standard to see if this solution can meet this standard, I have noticed from other threads on here that there does not seem to be a accepted defination of what a quality wireless network is, some people on here would probably just be happy if all their clients can log on and save work, while others might want their clients to all be able to use streaming media at once or all be able to use youtube at once. I am after information on how ruckus would provide atleat 2MB bandwidth in this situation. Some people might think that 2MB per client is not needed but if you don't have a set quality standard of acceptable service then its difficult to judge wether a system is worth buying. I'm sure the lads that resell ruckus will do their best to answer this question on this thread without dodging the hard questions.
-
can I ask some silly questions about this please as I am slightly confused. Do these access points actually send and recieve data more quickly than other access points, I saw on another thread that a user had 57 clients on one access point without any hassles but how much bandwidth would each client be given ?. If I wanted to have 120 laptops being used in a sports hall and have each client givin a minimium of 2MB of bandwidth without channel interference would this be possible if my laptop clients only supported 11g. I have it worked out that I would need 13-14 access points to give 2 MB each, 54MB really only gives around 18MB so atleat 13 access points are needed, now if you use 11a or 11n 5ghz then its easy but how would this ruckus system match the performance of a 11a 5ghz setup in a situation like this. I know it might seem unfair to compare a 11a setup with a 11g setup but I want to try to understand how a managed system can guarantee bandwidth with lots of clients without using 5ghz networks.

did you install italc on the client machine and copy over the keys ? if your dns is not clearing stale records then this can cause italc to either not show/connect to machines or even worse show the wrong pc to the wrong name.
-
Italc is a free remote control software, similiar to rm tutor etc. It has two very usefull features for network managent use. 1. remote login, this enables you to log all clients on at the same time with the same username. 2. remote execution of commands and scripts. This script save.vbs changes diskprotection to "save all changes" meaning if you execute this script on a pc with diskprotection enabled then all changes will be saved. The dis.vbs script will change diskprotection to "discard all changes". How you would do it is you would bootup all PCs in a room, you then remote login with a user called "save" this user has a login script that runs save.vbs, it then does a gpupdate /force, you can then execute any other scripts or virus updates, then using italc tell it to reboot. Because the computers are now set to "save all changes" they will install and keep any software/changes via GPO. When you have finished updating your computers restart so they save any changes made, then when they have booted up, login with a user called "dis" which has a login script that executes dis.vbs and either log off or restart. There are other quicker ways of doing certain things but this way gives everyone a good starting place to learn how to manage large ict suites using just freeware. The scripts were written by someone else not me save.vbs dis.vbs

We use SteadyState here to great effect. Our two main ICT suites have gone from september to now without a single reinstall. ( 1 dead hard disk, does not count). I use Italc and steadystate to provide a perfect system. 1. create perfect pc image, install italc, install steadystate, disable updates on steadystate. 2. sysprep and deploy using WDS or ghost. 3. name pc and move into correct OU, gpupdate and enable disk protection. 4. use italc to remote manage the PCs and enable and disable disk protection when you need to. You can also schedule WOL scripts to wake up certain suites and update and then save changes.

hi, we have recently purchased a "Network Guardian" smoothwall. It works very well. Recently we have noticed that the load average get very high. My boss has told me its something to do with the size of the logs files. Are there any routine/schedule task that can be run to .. 1. backup usefull information to do with web filtering 2. improve the load average
-
hi Guys We have just successfully install smoothwall3 and dansguardian, everythings going fine with the odd tiny glitch here and there. We use fronter as our vle, it works for about 5 minutes before coming up with a error. If we restart squid then it works again for 5 minutes, we have added it to the excluded list so its not cached. Configure WiFi Access Points Through Group Policies
Jose replied to Nick_Parker's topic in Windows Server 2008
There is a command line utility called wpscp.exe This can works fine on sp2 and sp3 xp machines. just create a batch file that look something like this wpscp -n "Realtek RTL8187B Wireless 802.11b/g 54Mbps USB 2.0 Network Adapter" -s WHSG -c ESS -a WPAPSK -e TKIP -k password wpscp -n "Realtek RTL8187B Wireless 802.11b/g 54Mbps USB 2.0 Network Adapter" -s tech1 -c ESS -a WPAPSK -e TKIP -k password wpscp -n "Realtek RTL8187B Wireless 802.11b/g 54Mbps USB 2.0 Network Adapter" -s tech2 -c ESS -a WPAPSK -e TKIP -k password Works like a dream -
That would work, but it would be best practise to just change the GPO to wait for network open up gpedit.msc computer configuration/administrative templates/system/logon change the " always wait for the network at computer startup and logon" why anyone would want to fiddle around with reg frag files when its easier to do this with GPOs is beyond me.
-
you need to use a GPO to force the computer to "wait for network" this forces the computer to start the network connections before showing the login screen

hi we are trying to get smoothwall to act as a internet filter/router, we only want certain machines to have to go through it. Our setup is like this Firewall(internetlink)------core switch all other switches go into the core, what we now need is the smoothwall to go in place like this firewall(internetlink)------core switch-----smoothwall we want to force certain machines to go via the smoothwall for internet only traffic. We basically want it to act as a internet filter/proxy is this possible and wants the quickest way to do this. we already have a dhcp server, and we have vlans so its tricky ta
