  1. Scammer is not the correct term, misleading advertising perhaps. Depending on what you sell ebay can be real cut throat, rival sellers leaving you bad feedback, rival sellers recking your auctions by placing high bids with new accounts etc. Any experienced seller who is keen on making a profit month after month will almost certainly have more than one account. When your selling items that are worth between 800 - 2000 uk pounds your accounts will always come under scrutiny.
  2. I've had accounts suspended for shill bidding this is nit illegal within the United Kingdom, even if it was no ones going to take you to court for it. The easiest way to use the ebay system is to work in teams, I have three different people who sell my items for me, they all have several ebay accounts. They build up the feedback by selling cheap items such as Mcdonalds toys, food voucher etc. After 3 months no one can tell what you have sold, these accounts are then ripe to be used for more expensive items such rare concert/football tickets etc. There is no real fraud involved, just making the most of the rules that ebay have to make your own accounts look like experienced reliable sellers. Don't panic Nick Jones, I don't sell train sets mate. I sell pre war football tickets, I've probably used over 50 different ebay accounts over the last 4-5 years, the trick is not to become attached to them. They are there to help you make money and when they get banned or bad feedback you just use a different one. I realise that most people will disagree but this hobby that I have selling tickets brings over 2 times my wages, so I'm doing something right.
  3. I've lost count of the amount of ebay accounts that I've had banned/suspended. They will suspend your account if they think you are involved in shill bidding. If you list a item that is that is a high fraud risk, phones+rare collectables they can suspend your account and ask for further proof of identity. The best way to use ebay is to register 5 new accounts to your credit card and then ask your bank for a new card, setup 5 more accounts etc etc. This will enable you to build up fedback on several accounts and give your selling bussiness more insurance should something go wrong. Ebay accounts should be treated as disposable items, use them and abuse them..
  4. Italc is free and does a good job
  5. hi I have Italc setup in three rooms, the remote logon feature works fine when used on the room with vanilla clients and works a treat but when used in the rooms with CC3 clients it fails. When I attempt to use the remote logon feature to all clients in a CC3 classroom the username and password appear in clear text all on the same line. So instead of the username going on the top line and password on the second they both go on the top line. please help thanks
  6. I know its not linux but how about installinging Bartpe to the harddisk, it can take up as little space as aroung 200-250 MB and we could all contribute plugins for it. Quite a few programs like openoffice will probably already have plugins already made. If you don't like Bartpe then you could try a nlite install. I got my eee pc on Saturday, played with it for about 20 minutes before installing XP.
  7. I've used deepfreeze and steadystate and never had any problems with either. I would reccommend looking again at steadystate, there are scripts avaiable now that you can download that enable you to unfreeze and refreeze remotely. The only benefit of deepfreeze over steadystate is the ability to freeze other drives other than the c: drive.
  8. change the setting in a GPO to tell the machines to wait for the network before showing the logon screen, this forces the wireless to connect
  9. are you seriously telling us that with a standard CC3 setup with students as restricted users all of your software runs fault free, I think a quick search on the internet tells us otherwise. The original poster ask if was secure as standard what it is but not without many important problems. If you have to start changing user types for pupils then its fairly pointless buying a out of the box solution if it does not work out of the box.
  10. This is true but surely any system designed to be used in a school would be designed to work with these software products regardless of whose fault it is. Solutions providers should provide solutions not excuses.
  11. if you leave everything as standard then froma security point of view its a very secure system that should prevent any problems. Thats were the good new ends though, the only way you can get a lot of educational software to run is to customize the the way the system is setup and for some subjects pupils needs much more control over the systems. RM support tend to reccommend that you then make pupils advanced users to enable this software to run. Its secure but only if you don't intend to use most educational software that available on it. I fully expect the RM luddites on here to reply with comments that its not RM's fault that this software requires extra access ( insert other excuse here..) but surely a product such as CC3 that they know is used in schools should be able to run most education software without modification. The school I work at is in the process of ripping this crap out and its quite funny that software that used to have problems running on a CC3 PC now runs fine on a secure vanilla PC. are you primary or secondary ?.

    Dress Code

black jeans, long t-shirts or jumpers, never shirt and tie. Formal business wear is shirt, trousers and tie for men and taylored/business trousers/skirt and blouse or top designed to be worn under a suit for women. If you have been told to wear shirt+tie but the same standard of formal dress is not being applied to women then I would reccomend collecting some evidence and getting a union rep involved.
  13. I use loopback policies to help use vanilla clients on a CC3 network, as your using Ranger I'm guessing your trying to have users logon to these PCs without the usual restrictions applying to the user accounts. My advice would be to create three different GPOs, each with loopback enabled. The first one called "student user settings via loopback", second one called "teacher user settings via loopback" third called "ICT staff user settings via loopback". Then deny the all students security group read and apply rights to the teacher and ICT staff's policies.
  14. you can get some scripts for steady state from the ms site. These scripts enable you to change the settings on remote PCs from save changes to discard changes. BUT there is no way to turn disk protection on for the first time via script. I imaged a PC using ImageX what had the disk protection turned on and set to save changes, it worked but maybe I was lucky.
  15. Did you see the miniBook?!! Anything but poor value. I would wait and see how these machine work in a proper school environment first, how long will these batteries last before they no longer hold their charge ? How much will replacement batteries cost ? are there any h&s things to consider when using such a small screen for long periods ? How long are the warranties, laptops have always been expensive to fix compared to normal PCs ? When dealing with laptops you have to read the small print when it comes to warranties and insurance, sometimes the screen is not covered etc.. On the surface it looks ok, but with RM once they have suckered you in the reality hits. We will only really know if they are suitable in 3-4 years time once we have seen other schools use them over a period of time. Remember you can get good laptops for between 350-400 pounds now so if these drop in price in a years time then it would make more sence to use proper laptops. I shall stand back and let the RM Luddites have their say.
  16. europc are very good for Dell desktops, Dell themselves are cheap. Try to avoid CSE, RM etc, very poor value for money. Good Luck
  17. Funny how this MP should make these comments just a company known for greasing palms releases a product. If it looks like a rat, smells like a rat, then it usually is a rat
  18. 1. Turn up 30 minutes late, they will be impressed that you were in demand else where and offer you the position on the spot. 2. Make sure you refer to SEN pupils as retards this will impress any management on the selection panel.
  19. I'm not sure if anyone else has already tried this as I have not had time to search the forums but this might work.. create a "you tube" phising page and use a dns redirect on your local dns so students end up at this page. when they enter their details a script will send a email to you with their you tube login. now login with their details remove the video, deface their page, change their email address, change password.  Mission completed
  20. create a OU outside of the site location, use plain active directory tools. block inheritence under the group policy tab on the OU. place the desktops or laptops inside the newly created OU. This will now stop most but not all of the cc3 gpos being applied. Now find out which gpos are being applied to the OU, use gpresult or something like it. Once you know which policies are still being applied to the OU you need to deny the computers access to those policies. The way I would do it is to create a security group called "vanilla desktops" and make all non cc3 pcs a member of this group, then deny this group the ability to read and apply the policies that are still being applied. it sounds complex but its a five minute job
  21. try placing your folder in the shared video folder C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\ shared video then run everything from your video project folder that has been placed in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\shared video
  22. Windows Movie maker has two key very important files. 1. The project file *.mswmm, this file is your project file that saves all work done on your timeline, example if you've edited clips and added titles this file holds this information. 2. The collections database file, this is stored here C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Movie Maker\mediatab0.dat this file is usually called either mediatab1.dat or mediatab0.dat. This file contains information that is used to divide imported video into smaller/shorter clips in the collections part. The collections database is stored in the local profile and does not follow the user if he/she logs onto a different pc. This is what I do to get my pupils to use it properly. create a folder called video project in their " My Documents" area make sure everything to do with movie maker is put in this folder that is in their network area, this means putting video files and mp3s in there before importing into Movie Maker. The *mswmm file will work fine as the all files are in the video project folder in a networked area. The collections will not be shown as the database file mediatab1 or mediatab0 will not be the same as the file that was used on the previous pc. You have two ways round this, the easy way is to get the pupils to reimport all files needed, this is easy if everything is in the one folder video project. 2. Copy the database file from the old pc to the new pc, this is slightly tricky because when you put the file into your profile it has to be given the same name as the file that was last used by Movie maker on the new pc. example if the file currently being used is called mediatab0 then you have to rename your database file mediatab0 and copy it into C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Movie Maker\ This can be done with a batchfile but you have to remember to run it after shutting Movie Maker and then before opening Movie Maker on the other pc. I realise that some of this info is no good to you as you may not have networked areas. but the principle is the same that the location of the folder and files must be the same on both pcs, if you create your video project folder on the the desktop and make sure everything goes in this folder then just as long as students backup the whole folder and then copy the whole folder to the desktop on whatever pc they use it should work fine. unless their usernames different ofcourse.
  23. its not just cost even if it was free I'd still prefer a vanilla network. I had a problem with ris the other day, solved one problem by asking on here and ther by googling. RM would just claim the the system is designed that way for security purposes etc
  24. yes please, lets see what people pn here think
  25. jesus where do you start 3rd world tech support for cc3 (india and glasgow) 2 hours to rebuild a pc long bootup times long login times nothing ever works as it should rmmc sometimes hangs password mirror needs restarting overpriced and under specced pcs, my boss paid 290 for a celeron with 512, 1 year osm Too many restrictions on user accounts staff can't download resources and use them without changing user types Using rmmc you cant give staff complete control over desktops in their own room without giving them control over other teachers desktop pcs You can do this with GPOs easily, just use the restricted groups option. We had one of their so called network growth advisers, laugh I nearly bought a round... We have two bottlenecks in out network, probably caused by cc3 generating extra network traffic. So what does this "expert" suggest ?, a new server of course. What makes me laugh the most is if a builder or windows salesman over charges a old man/woman and rips them off they go to court, yet its perfectly exceptable to phone up a elderly head of ICT and sell him a load of over priced junk, then to hasle him for more money one year latter just to continue to use the same rubbish
