Yeah I know, although I don't understand it. I just mean in the general use of DSE items which should apply to students imo.

There is talk afoot when we move premises next year that instead of having PC's or laptops instead we'll be having Microsoft Surface tablets (bar 2 CAD suits) I've got reservations about this. I think a full on laptop or PC would be better suited but they (management) want to go down a route that seems to be that any room can be an IT room which is a good idea but I think they are choosing the wrong device. I don't think they will stand up to the constant use day in day out and I don't think that they will be very nice to use from a health and safety perspective (DSE/RSI etc) Does anyone else have a setup by where you have done away with pc's and gone full on tablets? I would like to get your thoughts on the situation as I've got a meeting to go to so we can discuss it.

Not for laptops, I gotta admit I don't ever recall having to replace screws in laptops in all my years, what have your pupils been doing to them? I've mainly used them for odd sized nuts and bolts or when I just need to buy one and dont wanna buy a bag of 100 from CPC.

Put them back in with red loctite if they keep working themselves loose. Not sure where in Lancashire you are but AT engineering can be good for fasteners of all sizes. AT Engineering: Supplying Nuts, Bolts and Tools to the North West of England

Just screw the patch panel in backwards then once you are finished turn it around. That way you are pushing against the cab which should be stable. But yeah we've all done the holding the patch panel in one and thing, but only once....

If you can, use Velcro to secure the cables it costs a little more than cable ties but its more forgiving on the cables and easy to undo if you need to add some cables in the future. I've found on cabs that people have used cable ties that they tend to bite into the cables as the cab gets moved around. As previously said, leave as much slack as you can! Nothing worse than needing to move the cab and finding you can't because you don't have enough slack.

Their terminology certainly isnt. I use a Cisco SG300-10 PoE at home for our computers and devices covers most vlanning needs and has static layer3. Yes its expensive but its reliable and more in line with what you can expect to encounter on the job.

From googling it looks like Windows 10 will come as a windows update that can then update your OS from W7 or W8 to W10 however what if I want to reinstall W10 at some point in the future do I first have to install W7? There must be some option to save it as an ISO or such like or even a backup file.

What about using the portable version? Tux Paint - Download - Windows (ZIP archive) you could copy it to the relevant computers and then create a shortcut on the desktop.

There is talk of us delivering classes long distance for example, there will be a lecturer at location A with students and there will also be students at location B (other side of the country) We have been given a quote by a company that specialises in AV equipment but I'm just wondering who else can provide solutions like this. For example we use Promethean Boards, they have quoted to replace the board in the classroom designated for it with a Smart board and using Smart software called Bridgit to link the two locations together. Location A would contain 85" Smart Board front of class 65" TV at the back of the class for the lecturer to see students at location B microphones speakers audio DSP camera Location B would be the same

These are instruction sets for the CPU so the only fix is a new cpu that supports the instruction set. If your CPU is that old then I think its time for some new hardware.

How is the printer mapped? GPP? or Print Management? Does anything appear in the event logs regarding the printer failing to map?

I would say that pfsense is as basic as you need it to be, meaning it can be a lot more too. I've never taken a good look at it but I don't believe it does Layer 7 app filtering out of the box. The market is saturated with firewalls that do however. Sophos, Palo Alto, Checkpoint, Fortinet etc etc
