Hello all Wondering if it's possible to set wireless access for student mobiles on a Meru network for just say the lunch time? We do have a production byod at the moment for staff. The authentication is done via MS NPS. Thanks.

hello all I am testing if our Mac clients can get on the net via a smoothie box. Have got AD clients to authenticate by setting up a 'directory' (uses kerberos). Am now trying to set up a 'directory' to authenticate clients from macs. These are the settings: LDAP Server: MACSERVER.LOCAL.INTERNAL Username: uid=username,cn=user,dc=macserver,dc=local Password: xxxx Bind method: Kerberos Kerberos realm: LOCAL.INTERNAL User search root: cn=users,dc=macserver,dc=local,dc=internal Group search root: cn=groups,dc=macserver,dc=local,dc=internal Smoothie reports that the 'existence of user account uid=username,cn=user,dc=macserver,dc=local user unknown'. Is it the username format that seems to be wrong? I've tried a few combinations. Thanks.

Hello I've set up a time-restricted wireless network for students which they can use for 1 hour. I do this using a Network Policy and a Day and Time Restriction within Microsoft NPS. This seems to work when attempting to join this network i.e. outside the restriction hours users don't authenticate but do during the allowed time. However once they are connected the they are able to use the network even once the allowed time has lapsed. Any suggestions? Thanks.

@abillybob Yes. So the Macs talk to Open Directory and Active Directory.

Hello So I have a staff member who would like to use his own Mac on the school network. I don't mean just on a byod network, but as a device with standard access to network shares and printers on the network. He is ok with us re-imaging/re-installing the unit and 'locking it down' for the duration of his contract here. Can anyone see any problems here? Thanks.

Thanks Bossman.. looks impressive. So does the transfer happen automatically to MP3 or does it come with software?

Hello All, Any suggestions for a high quality recorder to be used for recording orals? Thanks.

Hello all, so our Macbook (Mavericks) users are non-admins, and would like to change the proxy setting when they are at home. I know preference files aren't easily editable any more. Any ideas how this can be achieved? Thanks.

Hello All I've asked this before in edugeek and received a generally positive answer (apart from apparently an Outlook issue), but thought I'd ask in this forum as well: Has anyone installed Office 2013 while Office 2010 was already installed on Windows 7? i.e. side-by-side? Any issues experienced? Thanks.

Hello I'm looking for some clarification as well as advice. We are planning to roll out Office 365 this year. The broad plan is to: 1) Install Office 2013 on staff laptops and student computers/laptops. Run this for a few weeks. 2) Set up an a tenancy on the Microsoft cloud, move the data to the cloud, and and configure user files to sync with computers 3) No decision made on whether to have the cloud hosted internally or with Microsoft. Questions: 1) We currently use offline files on staff laptops, syncing back to their home folders on a server share. Can we continue to have this arrangement but in addition get the files to sync to the MS cloud? 2) Are there any problems using an in-house Exchange server along with Office 365? 3) If we use the MS cloud, I presume we don't need to set up Sharepoint on the internal network? 4) Would you recommend that I set up a trial tenancy before working on the final one, or do you think I should just start with one and work on it until it is in a working state? Thanks.

Hello all We are thinking of deploying Office 365. So I would be grateful for some feedback from you all on the following: - Are the major selling points of Office 365 (1) the cloud based availability of Office files and (2) collaboration (via OneNote)? Anything else? - Advantages/disadvantages of hosting the cloud internally using Sharepoint vs subscription to a Microsoft cloud? - Can Office 365 clients sit alongside Office 2010 on Windows 7? I'm thinking of having both versions installed on the computers simultaneously - this will ease the pressure of a major deployment effort. - Is Office 365 different from Office 2010 to warrant additional training? Many thanks.

Hello all I'm planning to deploy Java v7 update 45 via an msi using Group Policy Software Installation. The previous Java version was deployed via a script running msiexec, and invoked via Scripts in Group Policies (software installation was not used, for reasons that are not relevant to the current problem). I'd like to uninstal the existing version before deploying update 45. I'd appreciate some ideas on how to do the uninstal? Once thought is to run a script containing 'msiexec /x' in the policy that is deploying update 45. But how to ensure the Script section runs before the Software Installation? And I'd be grateful if someone can point out a document that details the order in which settings within a single policy are applied. Another thought is to have a separate policy running 'msiexec /x' which runs before the deployment policy. But again, how to ensure that the first policy is completed before the second policy kicks in? Thank you.
