  1. As per the subject title, has anyone used them? PC and Laptop Shop : Ballicom.co.uk - Cheap Laptops, PC's, Monitors, Printers, Software and Networks
  2. What make switch is that taken from? Some default VLANs are non routeable.
  3. I've not hit the 970 memory allocation bug on my setup, the most graphically intense game I've got is Far Cry 4 and using ultra settings on 1080P the memory usage doesn't go high enough. 1440P users will be most effected by this and people wanting to do 4K stuff. I was worried about it at first but now I don't think its really an issue as I've gone from a 570 to 970 SLI the increase is massive for me.
  4. Derail away I was only asking from an academic standpoint whether MS were releasing a new server OS in line with their new desktop OS. So the thread has served its purpose.
  5. Seems like its an all your eggs in one basket approach, although I've never done virtualised systems so I can't say for certain as I've only used Oracles Virtual Box. We have one physical server that does everything, but I'll be looking to move to a mirrored setup when the server gets replaced.
  6. Well it would be server 2012 R2 as a minimum. I don't think anything would be virtualised because I'm not sure what we could virtualise we dont run many systems as we a small company.
  7. Yeah thats what I mean, I will be completely removing the server and installing a new one with the latest OS as the network runs Windows 7. This will be done this summer so it may be a little out of its expiry date.
  8. Thanks for the responses guys, I'm hoping to get a new server to replace an old 2003 server but It would be nice to use the latest OS with it. I'll have to take a peak at server 10 then.
  9. Will Windows 10 be followed up with a new Server OS? For example Windows XP - Server 2003 Windows 7 - Server 2008 Windows 8 - Server 2012 Will server 2012 be fully functional with Windows 10 or are they likely to release a new OS? Or has it been announced but I just live under a rock!
  10. Oh dear the blog title has a familiar sound to a famous internet site.
  11. Well for me the price is x2 970s vs a single 980 is worth it for the performance gain I like my games to look pretty and always stick everything on max settings 1080p x2 970s will run you about £500 if you shop around whereas a single 980 will be just over £400 for that extra £100 yes there will be more power consumption but also a massive FPS increase GeForce GTX 980 2 and 3-way SLI review - DX11: Metro - Last Light The difference between x2 980 and x2 970 is only a few frames per second less but a price difference of £300
  12. Well I will get the second card tomorrow. In my opinion nvidia is a far better GPU designer than AMD/ATI I have had 2 ATI cards, one was OK but lived a short life and the next was dead on arrival, I've just stopped buying them ever since their drivers are bloated and terrible, nvidia just works. I've had nvidia cards with my first being a Riva TNT2 right up to my current 970 and they just work and perform great with the only downside that they cost more than AMD/ATI but I'd rather pay more and get something that isn't going to give me grief. Most games should be designed out of the box to work fine with SLI despite most of them being console ports these days, always keep your drivers up to date for any fixes and the games patched. 2 games I'm looking forward to playing are evolve and dying light.
  13. I just upgraded from a 570 to a 970 and I just bought a second 970 today, its probably one of the best value for money SLI configs nvidia has ever done with the low price of the GPU and the MAXWELL's are super efficient.
  14. That worked thank you. It shouldnt have because a folder should need the last \ to indicate the directory but its working so I'll just accept it.
  15. It may do but I would prefer to get GPP working because if I needed to do some more maps later on they may not work. I'll script it as a last resort.
  16. This is an odd one, I think I'll try rebooting the server over dinner time.
  17. I Did think DNS but all the forward and reverse records look OK. I will try restarting the service. Just now I am trying to target via a group instead of a user to see if that works any better.
  18. Yeah tried that, thats what I meant by the full host name.
  19. Yeah the permissions should be fine. No existing L:\ drive and I can navigate to the folder manually.
  20. I'm trying to map a drive for a lecturer using GPP it works fine for students using item level targetting but when I try to apply a policy to the lecturer on the computer in event view it says. "The User "L:' preference item in "Policy long hex number" Group policy object did not apply because it failed with error code 0x80070035 the network path was not found this error was suppressed. A google reveals any number of causes most of which I have explored such as driver issues and using the server hostname in the UNC path. I have also tried update and create options in GPP. Both XP SP3 with client side extensions and Win7 are effected.
  21. What firewall rule / Protocol do I need to allow to remotely view event viewer / manage systems from AD. i.e. Right click a computer in AD and click "Manage" it gives me the error.
  22. What exactly is POP? We are still using Promissor for Functional Skills.
  23. Get some Meraki access points on Trial, you'll soon be convinced.
  24. Yeah we have 6 now and no problems at all, looking to hopefully purchase the new MR32 AC units for another building. I love the visibility they give over the use of the wifi.
  25. Have you rebooted it since the update?
