As the 2055dn's are now discontinued I'll get some of those 3015dn, just a shame you've gotta pay loads for the "dn" model over the "d" model.

Budget is around £500 I guess. I'm now torn between this and the Officejet Pro X 551dw, but I'll probably end up going for the laser and buying the Officejet for our new site.

YouTube for EDU - how to share schools playlist?
Gaz replied to kennysarmy's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
As I have said you are welcome to try my test setup which I know works all you would need to do is change the school identifier at SWGfL end. -
YouTube for EDU - how to share schools playlist?

Terminology miss use I guess, Witch mentioned "header modification" when its now apparent its the "url re-write" Looks like someone will be starting again. The playlist won't appear on the main youtube edu page and the ONLY ways to view the playlist is to view the channel page or the playlist via a shortcut/url directly. -

Thats what confuses me, unless Smoothwall are doing some fancy trickery I did the header modification method and the school code does't appear in the web browser address bar at any point. From my understanding that is the URL re-write method, that should work regardless. Perhaps thats not setup correctly at SWGfL Step 1 Choose one of the following two options, depending on which works for your school's network: Option A: Add new HTTP header rule Please modify your hardware filter or proxy server settings so that all outgoing traffic to youtube.com contains the following customised HTTP header. The ID to use in the HTTP header configuration, written below, is unique to your school's network only. If your school is blocked at the district level, this HTTP header is then unique to the district network. X-YouTube-Edu-Filter:YOURCODEHERE Option B: Create URL parameter rewrite rule If your firewall or filter does not support HTTP header modification, please rewrite all outgoing URLs to youtube.com by appending the parameter “edufilter” at the end. Example: http://youtube.com/?edufilter=YOURCODEHERE http://youtube.com/watch?v=gM95HHI4gLk&edufilter=YOURCODEHERE Exclude the &edufilter parameter from these file types: .css, .gif, .png, .js, .xml -

You shouldn't need to "enable" anything. Requests made under the proxy should have the header sent along with them so YouTube knows who you are and how to handle the request. -
Thanks synaesthsia. Your comments just make it even harder to choose between the two, both are similar prices but the real saving is on the toners, cost aside it then comes down to reliability long term. According to HP its just as robust as the m551dn (75,000 monthly duty cycle) the officejet pro x 551dw is 80,000 monthly duty cycle.
-
I've just spotted these printers while researching for a new office printer, would it be suitable for office admin use? Whats the print quality like and the toner consumption? I was going to a get an HP m551dn

The onboard graphics of the i7 (haswell) has the ability to use 3 monitors but it probably depends if the motherboard manufacturers are designing their motherboards to use the 3 outputs simultaneously. EDIT: It looks like they do support it.

Go for an SSD if you can.
-
Doh, I should have said it needs to be colour. However that looks like it would make a nice upgrade to our 2055dn's if they ever give up.
-
The CP4525dn looks like it will be out of our price range. Its for an office environment rather than a classroom so it won't be subjected to as much abuse, in the classrooms we use the 2055dn's which are excellent. For high volume stuff we have a UTAX MFD I think the 551dn will be suitable but wanted to hear from fellow edugeeks with experience of that model.

High lsass.exe CPU hitting 100% when clients logon on our DC
Gaz replied to Sylv3r's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
I wonder if its worth trying process monitor to find out exactly what the process is doing. Process Monitor Monitor the lsass.exe process during the busy period and see if you can decipher what its doing exactly. -
We have a Brother HL4140CN thats a pile of junk and I'm going to push for a replacement, all of our other printers are HP and they have worked flawlessly for years. Does anyone have any experience of the HP 551dn? I don't think I will be looking at other brands. We are only using this Brother because I was off sick for 2 days and instead of calling me up or waiting they ordered they best they could from Viking.

Your domain certainly has one. I think if you have a Google account now you also have to have a Google+ account. https://plus.google.com/107860338202610848760/about -

The Account you want to log into when it asks you is the same one that lets you also access youtube.com/account_school Think of it as the administrator account that lets you do everything. As stated here. http://www.edugeek.net/forums/internet-related-filtering-firewall/129204-youtube-edu-how-share-schools-playlist-4.html#post1154595 -
Mechanical Keyboards - The only way to type or waste of money?
Gaz replied to flyinghaggis's topic in Hardware
You could always do the o-ring modification to reduce the noise a bit, the noise is mainly when you bottom out the key and sounds worse on the Cherry Reds Blues and Blacks the Browns are the best for typing. You really need to clean those servers out before they overheat! Looks like they are covered in hair or something. Great pictures anyway. I love seeing pictures of peoples setups. -
I'd love to but I doubt it's worth changing ISPs because of a site move in about a year. I also doubt my boss would pay for the static IP address for the same reason. How does it work having your DNS and domain from two different providers?
-
We've got 123-reg. I already looked but I didn't see an option for DDNS. I guess I'll just have to update it manually.
-
lol sorry I guess I explained that better in my head. We've got a FQDN (internet based) and I want to update our WAN IP (dynamic IP ADSL connection) to an A record of the FQDN. Ideally without using a 3rd party service that requires the use of one of their hostnames.
-
I know there are services like no-ip and DynDNS but is there anyway I can update a dynamic IP address myself to a FQDN or not?
-
I just thought I would update this thread with what the lecturers have experienced so far. They are now using "2" and have not seen the annotations disappear but they are still keeping an eye out for it. If using "2" is the work around, it wouldn't really be acceptable. The lecturers would like to use width "0" as it is better for writing mathematical equations. Are Promethean actively working on a fix?

Perhaps it was something special for April Fools, but that should definitely be a permanent feature.
