I'm having a play with MAC filtering on a Cisco SG300 switch. Just struggling to work out exactly what this means from the help. If I set it to 1 does that mean it will match those bits in the MAC address field or not? The "don't care" to me means that it may or may not. Its very ambiguous from my mindset.

I'm trying to map a drive using GPP and I've just noticed when I click Browse that it has two domains to choose from one of them doesnt exist anymore and yet its still showing up. It was used for an inter-site link. It no longer exists in Sites and Services but is there anywhere else that it could be lurking? Its bae-preston.org that I need to remove.

Like I said. ^^ I think the bing search from the address bar is the issue, I've experienced the same and I use smoothwall.

Are you typing http:// before the ip address? it may help otherwise the bing search engine from the address bar will just treat it as a search.

I cant seem to find the File Server Resource Manager. I've looked under Add roles and Add features but It appears i'm being blind! I've followed this Using File Server Resource Manager which says: "In Server Manager: Expand Roles, expand File Services, and then expand Share and Storage Management. Click File Server Resource Manager." But its not there. I've done it on Server 2003.

Can you get into safemode? Run msconfig.exe using a diagnostic startup until you can identify the problem, it could be a program or service failing to load correctly. I know you've tried a different HDD but its worth trying as you have tried a lot of other avenues already.

Made me lol too. The Anonymous user account wont have a password, it is a special account that will let "Anonymous" (anyone) users connect to your FTP. If your going to use the Anonymous account on a home FTP make sure you have some good security settings in place.

Partial hijack: Is Lightspeed an appliance or can you run it on your own hardware? Do they do UK support? I love smoothwall! yeah its not the easiest to use and configure but the job it does it does well. The playlist would be public as when the users are on site they cant log into youtube. They can find the play list by going to the channel you setup. This is typically http://youtube.com/user/ -insert channel name here-

Just read your a primary school. Two of these would be fine, Cisco SF300-48P (SRW248G4P-K9-UK) 48-Port Managed Ethernet PoE Switch, 2x Gigabit, 2x mini-GBIC Combo, 48 PoE Ports (375W), 300 Series I can't see you needing masses of bandwidth that a full gigabit switch provides.

I can't speak for the quality of ZyXEL as the only product I used of their was a home grade router years ago. We use Cisco Small Business and Allied Telesyn switches but the Allied Telesyn will be replaced with Cisco Small Business soon. Most people on the forum use HP and with good reason as they are good switches. Better to spend more on a quality switch than buy poor switch which may struggle. But someone may be able to enlighten you on the quality of ZyXEL.

You may want to stick with HP switches if you can just for compatiblity but that shouldn't really be a problem. It would be cheaper to get 1*48PoE and 1*48 nonPoE as it should be cheaper and use less power. I Think some clarification is needed as to what equipment / switches you've currently got. From my understanding of your first post you have seen a desktop switch like this one Cisco SF100D-08 8-Port Fast Ethernet Desktop Switch, 100 Series some of them come with "ears" (basically brackets that mount to the side of the switch) so you can install them in a rack but if they don't then you can get shelves for racks and just put it on that.

Well once I've loaded on Win7, Office, Solidworks, Camworks, Autodesk Inventor, Autocad, Tina and other little applications that soon gets taken up. I could probably get away with 120GB at a push but 180GB would give breathing room.
