We have just had a new photocopier delivered and setup. Its bascially just an updated model of our old one. I've just printed across the network to the photocopier and it worked OK. My question however is should I bother to update the drivers and cause myself a possible headache? or leave it because its working...

Arh sorry, I just forget that because there are so many Smoothwall users on this forum that there are also users of other filters too. Perhaps a flash element is being blocked? Is there a verbose option for logs?

Its fine for me but I assume the error is appearing because Java wants to check for an update and it does this to secure.oracle.com so if there was an authentication exception then it would just go straight through the filter. Just like adding a do not inspect rule for HTTPS My question was merely academic.

Have you tried whitelisting the site and sticking it at the top of the webfilter > policies ? There may be a policy blocking it somewhere.

I think they use the domain bbci.co.uk

The message hasnt appeared in quite a while and I'm not sure what the cause or solution was if I did anything at all it was to add an HTTPS exception (do not inspect) in Smoothwall for secure.oracle.com

Its a Batch file. The test account cant open the folder because it doesnt have permissions but it still mapping it in "My computer" Where abouts in ADSI edit should I be looking? and what should I be looking for? Cheers.

For me I think it was not using the FQDN in the map that stopped those users being mapped. Once corrected the problem hasn't come back.

Yes but doing that the file will still be called "My Documents" all that "solution" does is add another column with the filename, if you want to get rid of the "My Documents name you can delete the "Desktop.ini" file and it will restore the original filename. What I found is that my users couldnt connect to their homefolder when it had been renamed to "My Documents" but I may have a different setup to others.

Yeah and the solution is to delete the desktop.ini file and it will restore it to its former state.

In the AD account on the profile tab. I'm not sure if you can do the lot in bulk without 3rd party tools. I've got a program called AD Infinitum that allows bulk changes with an easy to use GUI. I Just changed it to "\\abc.domain.local\group\%username%"

Well I did manage to solve it by changing the home folder map from \\domain to \\domain.domain.local Its like it was a DNS issue even though everything appeared to be hunky dory.

Its certainly an odd one and its not the first time its happened. The first time it happened I thought nothing of it. We only have 1 DC. I've just checked Secure DNS updates and for the forward zone it was set to "Secure Only" but for the reverse its set to "Unsecure and Secure" Should they both be set to "Secure" ? The server gets scanned daily.

What can cause DNS records to change? I've had to change some DNS records manually because the forward DNS IP was to a different computer on the network.

I want to add an authentication exception for Activinspire so that when it loads it can check for updates. At the moment it cant connect through the proxy. What are the details of the update server that I need to add to our content filter?

Have you tried reinstalling the software? maybe its messed up somehow. Using the correct port number?

I've never done it but I thought it would have been a case of creating a new user and making that user a member of the "Administrators" group under "builtin" The same goes for other groups.

I'm not looking at brands just yet but I know Juniper are up there with the best of them. Is a Virtual Chassis just what Juniper called a stacked switch? From reading the Best practices guide I get the feeling it is. Just out of interest what Juniper switch would make a good core switch for an SMB with around 80 computers. And now for a Vlan question Am I right in thinking that if I've got Layer3 switches at the core and Layer2 switches at the distribution/access points then the Layer3 core would do the inter-vlan routing for the layer2 switches?

How many have you linked/stacked together? I'm just trying to work out the topology that may be needed. Do your access switches feed back to the Virtual Chassis? How does the Virtual Chassis handle a switch failure?

So is stacking switches (a true stack) akin to RAID then? RAID 5 for example, the stack can suffer 1 loss and still communicate. In the attached image (ph34r my paint skills) is the dashed line (cable) needed for redunancy? for example if switch 2 fails then switch 1 wont be able to communicate with any of the other switches but switches 3-6 will still be able to communicate with each other.
