I would definately go for an SSD (120GB) we have a fair few computers here that have SSD's and compared to the mechanical 7,200RPM the boot up times and application response times are amazing. As the computers age the SSD's should keep most of same level of performance for a long time whereas I find that the mechanical drives are fading. However others may say the opposite. If you go for an i3 get the fastest one which is currently the Ivybridge i3 3240 @ 3.4GHz Come June time Intel will bring their new chip's out but you are most likely upgrading before then anyway. Who are you getting the quotes from?

I've got some folders that are mapped based on ifmember, eg, if member is in the group then apply the map. However it appears to be mapping the folder to an account that its not meant to as its not in the group or on the folder permissions. This appears to only be effecting my testing account. I have another folder that is mapped via a login script under "user profile" called Logon.bat and that is also mapping to another test account but not an actual users account. This all seems fine as long as its not effecting real users but why is it effecting my test accounts? they are not setup in any different way. Some permissions are obviously messed up somewhere but I've no idea where else to look! it looks fine from what I can tell. The ifmember script is set as a logon script to map the folder to a drive letter. The PC's that I've tested are Win7, I've not tested our XP PC's. Cheers.

Getting back on topic I'd seriously look at getting an i5 and 120gb SSD as a minimum if you need 5 years worth of use out of them. How do you know further down the line your not going to be asked to install an application that is CPU intensive or a large filesize. Get some quotes for i5 systems if you already havn't.

The problem is I probably could because they will still be under warranty but they would just replace them with the same inferior product so is it worth it?

The keyboards that I am replacing are the ones that came with the Dell PC's, they are very poor quality. Typing on them is a chore, because the keys don't actuate properly when pressed. This is not a result of vandalism but a poor quality product. I have already replaced a good chunk with some old IBM ones we have had around 7 years and they are still going strong.

What keyboards are you guys using as replacements? I need to replace a load of Dell ones that came with the PC's but instead of getting Dell replacements I want to get something a little more robust. I have swapped the majority of them with some old IBM ones we had as they are built like tanks. I was thinking along the lines of this, but it doesnt look very robust. How are you finding MBAM in a network environment? Is it detecting anything over your AV solution? I use it at home and its great and works nicely alongside ESET AV

Just found out which PC was in question and there is nothing in the event logs as to why it wasn't mapped, despite the /gpresult saying that the policy had applied. FYI the printers are mapped via Group Policy. This is going to need a bit of investigating.

Arh, I think I may have caused some confusion. I have printers mapped to a classroom its just that 1 of them didn't map and the user that reported it didn't know which computer it was, I was too busy at the time to go over and look and his explanation of which PC it was wasn't clear. So I was wondering if I could find out, (without look at the event logs of every single pc) which one failed to map. This is based off not knowing which computer hasn't mapped successfully.

As the title suggests, is there any way to find out if a computer has a network printer mapped to it without physically going to the computer or remoting into the computer. Sorry if this isn't the best forum for the question, feel free to move it.

Unlikely you need to use it then. I needed to use it for a 2003 server with Win7 and XP clients. I did also need to use it on my 2008r2 server for my Win XP clients, the Win7 clients were ok on that network. What OS are the computers? are you using PushPrinterConnections.exe? For me it was just a case of right clicking the printer I wanted to share in "Print Management" and selecting "deploy with group policy..." then selecting the GPO I wanted it to apply to, in this case it was a classroom.

Just found a solution after checking event logs (I should have done that first lol ) What is interesting is what has actually happend here? I'm posting this just in case anyone else has the problem in the future.
