I'll believe it when I see it! Preston seems to be a black spot for snow actually sticking. Its snowing now fast, but its not going to stick. That Photo was taken at Beacon Fell on Monday where there was about >2"

Well I drive this to work, so I've not got much of an excuse for not turning up when it snows. http://10100111001.co.uk/vault/files/snow_landy.jpg

I Just use a flat bladed screw driver. Get one side of the cage nut in the square hole and push the other side with a flat bladed screw driver. Not sure I'd want to spend £15 to do that, but I have to admit, it would be a very useful tool to have.

A quick google came up with this. Fedora 11 says Not enough memory - Operating Systems What does FOG stand for? EDIT: I'm guessing this. http://sourceforge.net/projects/freeghost/

Youtube Edu and GCFLearnFree.org - YouTube should be fine.

They're expecting to survive on something that perishes quickly?

We've got less than nothing in Preston despite the Metoffice issuing an Amber alert for Snow.

According to this, its 4GB http://www.dell.com/downloads/ap/products/vostronb/Vostro1015-spec-sheet-final_enap.pdf

While the 64bit OS can support 8GB of ram, perhaps the motherboard of the Laptop wont recoginise more than 4GB, which is highly unlikely. Whats the model number?

I intend to submit is as a feature request. When you deploy an .msi it copies it to C:\ of the target computer all I have to do to make it work is to copy the data1.cab file to C:\ and then deploy the .msi and it installs. As you say it needs to be in the same folder.
-
I've disabled it now. Theres no real reason for my docs to be redirected on my network so they can just store stuff in their home folder. Yeah I experienced the "My Documents" folder thing too, you can find out who it belongs too if you add the "Filename" column but that only works on Server 2008 R2 (and maybe non R2) deleting desktop.ini inside the folder will change it back again.

Not exactly the same, but still remote control of sorts. We had a user doing this and he was using a wireless mouse with a dongle plugged into the back so it wasn't apparent. The drivers must already be installed for the mouse with Windows so it just accepts it. He was doing it while the teacher was using the Promethean board.
-
Well then my first port of call would be looking at what windows updates are being applied. Perhaps its doing a sound update and that is conflicting. Does the BIOS beep at POST? take all the ram out to test as my PC at home doesn't beep at POST as an OK check.
-
OK I must be losing the plot, I tried it earlier and it said it failed, I've just tried it again and its worked. Now to see if it works for the Win7 machines... EDIT: I know why its working now, I copied the .cab file to C:\ and then deployed the .msi and it worked, so it looks like Impero doesn't read the .cab from the same location as the .msi under deploy. Now I just need to remember that.
-
I've extracted it in the past fine, but the latest version is just extracting an 859KB .msi and a 27MB .cab file. The .msi is suspicously the same size as the online updater. It used to extract just 1 big .msi file and I could deploy that via Impero and it would install silently just fine. I've no idea how to deploy these files. This is the file I'm trying to use. http://download.oracle.com/otn-pub/java/jdk/7u11-b21/jre-7u11-windows-i586.exe

Hmm you may be onto something Netman. I did recently change the homefolder path from \\domain\students\ to \\server.domain.local\students\ I didn't think that would make a difference to anything though.
-
I'm not using roaming or mandatory profiles, they are all local profiles. (I'll be moving to roaming over the summer) It certainly sounds like folder redirection has messed something up. My plan is to just recreate the folders as the users approach me and restore from shadow copies. Without knowing what exactly went wrong with the redirection though its hard to know what I've got to do so it doesn't happen again should I want to use folder redirection.
-
Redirection is now off but it was (my docs etc) redirected to \\Server\students\%username%
-
Anyone? I've had a few more students with missing folders. I've no idea why its happening and don't think anything has been breached and theres no virus's on the server that I know of (full scan run)

OpenDNS, Is it now free again?
Gaz replied to dany2010's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
You could use the home version for free and it has a content filter but I really wouldnt use it as a content filter for a school, for that you really do need something such as smoothwall. OpenDNS's content filter is done purely by the community and moderaters but the turn around time for getting a site blocked is a very long time and it needs lots of people to vote it to be blocked. Surely theres money for a content filter if 5 schools are involved. EDIT: looks like they are now pushing Umbrella as the business part of OpenDNS, so you may want to look into that, but I'd still go with a dedicated onsite filter. -
Its saying Invalid Syntax and that to me means there is a character out of place or being miss-used but I cant see where. :-/ Again on the 3rd line there is a space, I'm not sure if that makes a difference ether. Test,12345,[email protected] .us,\\eg2008dc1\bulk.test\;h:,test,user

I've had 2 students come up to me today both with missing home folders. They appear to have been removed/deleted from the home folder directory. To get them back I am manually creating the folder again and restoring it from a shadow copy, but the shadow copy only lets me restore files from before Christmas. Anything newer than that (2013) and it says its missing. This is getting rather worrying now. Looking at my other server there are 534 home folders and on this server (2008 r2) there are 478 thats an inconsistancy of 56 folders that may be missing. I've disabled folder redirection as that was causing some issues but I've no idea whats gone on here. The event logs don't have any errors relating to this issue.

This is the proceedure they have to follow Off Campus Applications but as they can't install the software themselves I'm going to do it. The web plugin they are asked to install is 13meg and the ICAWebWrapper.msi is 9meg so I assume its pretty much everything. I'll try it on one and see what happens.
