If you want to rule out your ISP you could try it out yourself at home. Ask smoothwall nicely for a trial, set it up on an old PC and give it a go.

OK I've just started this from scratch. Here is what I did. 1. Create gmail (google) account) 2. Sign up for youtube for schools youtube.com/schools 3. Create a YouTube Channel on the same account and give it a name. 4. Create a playlist on that channel and add a video. 5. With the school code create a header modification policy Notes: I created 2 channels. When asked to make a youtube channel and give it a name I first selected to created the channel name via the “Business or other name method” This doesn't appear to be working via YouTube Edu and doesn't let me view my channel via a user under the header modification. This account also appears as a second account. I then created a second channel this time by just the “name the account” method. It asks for a first name and a last name but in reality you can enter anything. This is the same account that manages the school (youtube.com/account_school). With this account a user under the header modification can view the channel and playlists. The account with the "Tick" is the account that works.

Its like YouTube isn't detecting your school code though. It allows you to view the playlist but when the video plays it doesn't play because it can't detect whether you are allowed to view the content. The reason I suggest that they are employing the URL rewrite is because YouTube say the following. Option B: Create URL parameter rewrite rule If your firewall or filter does not support HTTP header modification, please rewrite all outgoing URLs to youtube.com by appending the parameter “edufilter” at the end. Example: http://youtube.com/?edufilter=SCHOOLCODEHERE http://youtube.com/watch?v=gM95HHI4gLk&edufilter=SCHOOLCODEHERE I would say that its not the header modification because of the school code appearing in the URL. That said both methods should work regardless. Sorry I thought it was an option that could easily be changed. I guess I forget sometimes that some schools are fortunate enough to manage their own systems. Is there anyone else on edugeek thats got it working on the same learning grid?

Can I suggest that you do a complete do over on this. I.e. make a new youtube account (it doesn't need to be related to the school, this is purely for testing purposes) and get a new header code. It sounds like your ISP is doing it via the URL rewrite method if the school identifier is in the URL. Theres no reason that shouldn't work but I've never tried it that way, as we have Smoothwall we use the header modification method which hides the school identifier from appearing. The issue appears to be with the way users access the videos. I'll setup another test account myself tomorrow and go through it again that way I'll be in a better position to help.

Nitro PDF can do this. I went for that over Acrobat for the simple reason that Acrobat is made by Adobe.

Its not an issue for me, I was just following the thread and wanted to ask a question. I looked at the reg settings out of interest and wondered how "Automatically detect settings" box was unticked, but it appears it doesn't make a difference from everyones reports.

I thought that if that box was ticked and the proxy info was entered that the two settings would conflict. Naturally if it says "Automatically detect settings" and the proxy info is the common sense would say that it would detect and use the proxy info but we are talking about Microsoft here. When I first setup Smoothwall on our network with the help of Smoothwall support I was told to make sure that the "Auto detect" was unticked.

The board should be fully compatible in that instance then. I have experienced pens working in some situations before, which is why I asked if you had tried another pen. Dual user mode isn't required but it could be a work around to get it working.

As "Automatically detect settings" Is ticked by default what registry key unticks that box?

An extreme method thats not often considered because it involves reinstalling IE, is to use the Internet Explorer Administration Kit and then put the proxy info into that and then deploy it. Internet Explorer Administration Kit

Nope no hidden files. It certainly was odd and I couldn't offer a resolution. @DaveP I guess its something that differs from organisation to organisation, its not really a problem here and in this instance he was only logged onto one of the computers and when some of his files were missing, logged into another computer to view them. In greater numbers it would become an issue I agree. We use Impero so spotting duplicate logons is easy and Impero its self could be configured to not allow duplicate logons.

Earlier today I had a student that was logged into 2 computers and on one computer he had all his files but on another computer 3 of them were missing. (the files were located in his home folder) So I logged into the folder on the server to check if its just the desktops but none of the missing files were displayed. He was working on the missing files at the time. I created a text file and that appeared in his home folders. I couldn't work out why the files weren't showing up on the other computers though. I don't think its an issue as such but its certainly odd.

Same here. It used to be jbloggs but with the duplicates and tracking down of users i've now changed it to joe.bloggs with a number for duplicates.

Only the hub and the slate should be paired the pen is independent. Have you tried another pen? Is dual user enabled?

Hmm I'll give that a test out. I'm not sure if thats the problem though because although the desktops don't have speakers (they have onboard sound and drivers installed) the promethean board pc does and its effected. I'll go and investigate further with this info. Cheers.

I'm not sure if its related to our content filter or adobe flash or youtube. When playing videos on youtube you get the first frame or so and then the video stops with a message saying "An error has occurred" HTML5 works ok. We are using the latest IE11, Adobe flash 12.0.0.77 and smoothie is up to date. I've googled and the error seems to be quite specific to the users reporting them and not really helpful to me.

What happens if you link them directly to a playlist? I know its not the best method but I'd be interested in knowing if that redirects too.
