I did the Coasts & Castles ride earlier this year - featuring 2 1/2 days of solid headwinds. Nearly turned round and quit - no pedalling required to get back to the start. The 1/2 day without wind was glorious!

Eh? There's a way of getting to work that *doesn't* involve a bike? Knobblies + MTB for snow, normal bike for the rest!

That's me. The Virgin line is useful for debt collectors who are still trying to find the previous owner of the number a yer after I got it. We never use it except for 0800s due to the horrific call costs. It's unplugged most of the time but somehow makes the BB cheaper.

If you've got the budget, Lego Mindstorms + bluetooth control module + playstation / xbox bt controller + wireless camera. Let people pay to drive it round the building and watch the video coming in. I'd like to build a self balancing robot (segway style balancing) but can't work out how to make it pay. Alternatively, build a segway clone or one of the skateboard-like derivatives and charge for rides.

It's not the support that gives me headaches, it's their cr4ppo laptops. HP 510s, I'm looking at you - no auto boot pxe, xp home on the recovery partition (took hours to generate cds too), slow nic, no hdd light. Rubbish!

Ah, but your projector probably presents a vga cable - how does that work with cheap dvd players (yup, got a similar problem!).

I think it's worth £12pm just to have a relatively independant broadcaster that isn't Murdoch. Radio 4 is the other BBC gem.

+1 for xbmc. Softmod it, stick a bigger drive in, rip dvds, copy games to the drive for faster loads (and no lost discs). All the howtos were on t'web, problem comes when pages get old and disappear.

Side note - if the web interface takes ages to display the about screen ("i" button, displays the version at the top), it's probably because it needs a proxy setting. This also enables kernel downloads, the kernel update screen is blank otherwise.

Fog is an imaging system. Spiceworks is good for inventories of things that have network cards. No network card = have to enter it yourself.

New York has some great bike lanes but being obliged to use the cr4p / dangerous ones is a high price to pay for them. Facility of the month is great - keep meaning to post some local gems..

I'd like to see Arduino in secondaries - programmed in c-like language, loads of libraries and help out there and it's about £12 per board, no software or licencing cost. Plenty of interface boards or you can make your own.

Note to others with problems here (aka fruits of an hour or twos head-scratching). AD password is specified in system settings and per host. It needs to be encrypted by FOGCrypt which exists in /opt/fog-setup/fog_0.30/FOGCrypt . This needs to be transferred (with the etc dir and contents) to a windows machine and run there. In the AD settings for the host, under fog 0.30, the domain username has to be specified as domain\username. Fog 0.30, Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, Dell GX620

Get a bike (just not a supermarket cheapie!). You will then be able to enjoy riding past the queues of cars in the morning, through the already full carpark to lock it up right by the door. Repeat at 5.

I've used parcelfarce to send bikes - it's even possible to get them to collect the item.
