A good example of what's wrong with sco's website. You can click on 'support' at the top. You can click 'user documentation' on the L side. You don't get the useful page you quoted, you get a page saying "The SCO Help Centre contains comprehensive information on how to use all Tucasi products. To access the SCO Help Centre just click on the Help button when logged on to SCO. If you need copies of any other user documentation, including product installation guides, please contact Tucasi Customer Support." which is as useful as a 'under construction' page with a picture of somebody digging a hole.

Indeed. The rest of the world manages to install to C:\program files. What's so special about sco? Won't find the db here without it. Even when its on on the same machine. Yes, I was getting desperate. No, there is extensive sales documentation there. "To access the SCO Help Centre just click on the Help button when logged on to SCO.". No, it should just work. I don't want to log into sco. There should be a readme.txt or install.txt with the installer if it's not immediately clear. The FAQ has one question in it. "If you need copies of any other user documentation, including product installation guides, please contact Tucasi Customer Support." . Great. Why can't you just put docs on your website? Everybody else does. Photoshopped happy photos of people != documentation or usefulness.

Just finished fighting the stupid tucasi (school cash office) installer. It defaults to installing in c:\sco. It needs local admin rights. If it finds an error, it tells you about 10 times. Documentation? FAQ? Don't make me laugh. The software might be great but the installer is $hit. I hate it already.

Spiceworks is great - I've got an ancient fujitsu e8020 running it. It copes - and uses very little power. I wish they'd do a linux port so it doesn't need a windows licence. Could put it in a VM then - couldn't get it to work under 2008 server.

Ooh, that's good. Sparkfun is great - one of a small number of places I'd happily work at for free if I could. Superb open source philosophy behind them too - that's another lesson for the kids..

+1 for fog. Requisition an old desktop, it needn't be a high spec as long as it has a big disc and as fast a nic as your switch supports. Recent versions of Ubuntu work as an OS, long term support (LTS) for preference, server or desktop version up to you.

Sounds like file permissions on the remote machine. I *think* you can upload in debug mode and go through it step by step and see where it fails. Start a debug upload and type 'fog' when the prompt appears. Also, from the debug prompt, if you can figure out the path to the image host I'd try to something like 'touch /images/testfile' and see if you can write to it.

Won't work with fog due to the file formats used. Original poster - Where in the upload is it failing? Have you tried putting acpi=off noirq in the Host Kernel Arguments? I think with win7 you will need to specify the image as a multiple partition image.

We have the 2009 version and it's a crashy, inconsistent PITA. I hate it and would gladly swap it for any other classsroom mgmt app. It's awkward to setup and requires keys to be activated for reinstalls - even on the same machine. The website is a bear to find support on - and what you do find often doesn't answer your question. Not much on google search either. You have to call an 0845 number to talk to their distributor. To be fair, they can be quite helpful. Otherwise - AVOID AVOID AVOID!

sudo tar-xvzffog* - looks like you're missing a space. Try sudo tar -zxvf followed by the filename.

Re image directories - single partition / non resizable images are stored as .tar.gz in /images . Multiple partition images get their own directory, also in /images .

We've had one via the LA. £7K2 for connection only (10Mb over fibre) and a firewall, mandatory filter (whose?) is extra and unspecified. We are city primary, 200ish kids. There are lots of unanswered questions here at the moment. Anybody know - What is the value of a managed service? Don't all commercial BB providers manage their services? How does SSO work and can we do it without embc? Must one have a filtered connection (more than just the IWF blacklist applied) in a primary, can we not just access via a filtering proxy box? Smartsync is difficult to get working, crashy and a pain in the a$$. Works this week, but not next week. Reinstall - you need a new licence code. Paid for the 2009 version? Have fun finding the right download on the website. Want to use something other than the most basic screen view / control? Here comes a crash. Save yourself the aggro, buy something else.
