  1. Four to begin with then going up to ten admin staff.
  2. Hi all, I was wondering if someone could help me out with a peculiar deployment I have to circumnavigate and get working. We have an outlying building that has been bought by the school for relocating administration staff and there is no budget to dig a trench and fibre the building in to the existing school network. The solution proposed would be to use a home-grade ADSL modem (with a dynamic IP address) with a WatchGuard firewall creating a VPN tunnel back to main site. I am unsure how I would go about creating a dynamically initiated VPN tunnel from the outlying building back to the main site where the IP address will remain statically. Has anyone been able to achieve this before? Thanks.
  3. Steve, I think you may be a genius. I will firstly hold my hands up and say that I am a Cisco guy and have not touched HP prior to this. Anyway, I simply applied a name/description to the port, which in HP world is the only actual config I have applied to the interface directly and now the port has automagically appeared in the running config. Still baffles me that HP output the running configuration this way in comparison to Cisco where any kind of config (VLAN, STP or a another) is visible under the interface. Anyway, it was me being a bit of a dumbass and I have now made the "missing" interfaces now appear in the show run output!
  4. Essentially, this is the process of how I configured the stack. Both switches were taken out of the boxes. Stacking modules fitted to the back of the switch. Stacking cables fitted port 1 to port 1 and port 2 to port 2. Switches powered on and configuration applied line-by-line. I did this process on three stacks and only one appears to have taken. Would what you are suggesting be that we dismantle the stack, wipe the configs and apply two separate configs (i.e config switch 1 with its interfaces, VLANs etc, config switch 2 with its interfaces and same VLANs) write memory and power down THEN fit the stacking modules and cables to see that the configs merge?
  5. I really appreciate yours and your clever chap's time on this. I have raised a ticket with HP also and they seem pretty stumped also!
  6. Hello Wave9_Andy, Please find below the "show run", "show stack", "show stack mem 1", "show stack mem 2" and "show version" outputs of the switch stack. I hope this helps you understand the issue a little bit better. Let me know if you need any further outputs. 7. Hello all, I was wondering if someone could shed some light on this perculiar issue I am having. I have 2x 2920s in a stack that appears to be having two issues. Firstly, when I do a "show run", only ports 1/1-1/24 are shown and not the remaining 48 ports on the secondary switch. However, if I am to run the command "show spanning-tree" all ports are shown. Secondly, we are having an issue when this switch stack is connected directly to another single switch on our campus, they will not communicate with each other. If I put an unmanaged switch between the switch stack and the single switch, they are then able to communicate. I am unsure as to whether the first issue directly affects the second issue or not. Any help would be appreciative! Thanks.
  8. Hello Guys, I'm currently messing about with PowerShell, trying to make our lives easier with diagnosing problems on the network. One idea I had was to develop a script that would check remote machines to see what version of Adobe Flash Player and Java they had installed and compare this with the latest version available on the web. Has anyone attempted to create a PowerShell script that does this or know of one that accomplishes this? Many thanks.
  9. Many Thanks, Arthur. I shall have a look at these links.
  10. If you could upload your Excel spreadsheet so I can take a gander, that would be brilliant. Thanks
  11. A part of the script is set to look for the OU I want to create users in and it comes back saying that it has been found. $OU = get-ADOrganizationalUnit -Filter { name -eq $ouName } if($OU -eq $Null) {New-ADOrganizationalUnit -Name $OUName -Path $mydom} else {write-host "The OU" $ou "already exists - this is good..."} It keeps getting stuck at this part of the script New-ADUser -Name $uname -SamAccountName $uname -DisplayName $UDdname -Path $oudn -Enabled $true -ChangePasswordAtLogon $true -description $desc -AccountPassword (ConvertTo-SecureString "Pa$$w0rd" -AsPlainText -force) -PassThru If I remove "-Name $uname" it will prompt me to enter User names, which I'm guessing that the script isn't designed to do so (bearing in mind this script originally came from a random blog with comments that it worked).
  12. Hello all, I'm trying to create a Powershell script to automate bulk user creation as it becomes a bit of a pain with the new intake of students each year. I have found a script online and I have slightly modified it but it doesn't appear to be working in a test environment I have. This is the script: import-module activedirectory import-module grouppolicy $mydom = (get-addomain).distinguishedname $ouName = "Sales" $oudn = "OU=$ouName,$mydom" $userCount = 10 $datetime = get-date -format G $desc = "Test user created $datetime" $OU = get-ADOrganizationalUnit -Filter { name -eq $ouName } if($OU -eq $Null) {New-ADOrganizationalUnit -Name $OUName -Path $mydom} else {write-host "The OU" $ou "already exists - this is good..."} $i = 1 while ($i -le $userCount) { $uname = "User" + $i $UDdname = "Test User" + $i New-ADUser -Name $uname -SamAccountName $uname -DisplayName $UDdname -Path $oudn -Enabled $true -ChangePasswordAtLogon $true -description $desc -AccountPassword (ConvertTo-SecureString "Pa$$w0rd" -AsPlainText -force) -PassThru $i = $i + 1 } And I am getting this error when I attempt to run the script: New-ADUser : Directory object not found At C:\Users\James\Documents\test.ps1:26 char:11 + New-ADUser <<<< -Name $uname -SamAccountName $uname -DisplayName $UDdname -Path $oudn -Enabled $t AtLogon $true -description $desc -AccountPassword (ConvertTo-SecureString "Pa$$w0rd" -AsPlainText -f + CategoryInfo : ObjectNotFound: (CN=User10,OU=Sa...gramming,DC=com:String) [New-ADUser undException + FullyQualifiedErrorId : Directory object not found,Microsoft.ActiveDirectory.Management.Comman Can anyone point in the direction as to why this isn't working? Many thanks.
  13. A little update: It was worked fine with VMWare Workstation 8. I must say, I really do not like the Metro UI!
  14. My hash is wrong. Time to download the ISO again for a third time lol! Thanks for your help guys! I may get it installed soon.
  15. I'm really not having much luck with installing Windows 8. A new error now that I have got VMWare Workstation 8:
